53-man Roster Casualties (NFL wide)

The ESPN bloggers are keeping up with the roster cuts that need to be in by 5 CT today. It's already got some good info on it, and while it's not totally complete, it links to other sites. That way, we can get a good idea as to who we could go after.

1st side note: Rosevelt Colvin was cut by the Texans. I'm not advocating to get him at all, but wanted to give you an update on a former Bear.

2nd side note: If any of of you are from Texas, Louisiana, or Mississippi, stay safe, and all the best.

3rd side note: Happy College Football Day!

Happy College Football day!!!

I am real upset that I am going to miss the Mizzou-Illinois game! I never should have agreed to a double date without looking at the schedule!!

That's rough

I’m really sorry about that….any way you can get out of it? Maybe you could make mac and cheese and hang out at your place. I mean, that still qualifies as a date. lol.

What is the problem?

You take the date to an establishment where the game is playing.

Hey, Football can be romantic!!

True story:

On Aug 20 of last year, my Bears-fan hubby and I got married outside on our pastor’s back porch, then immediately changed into our football jerseys (Butkus for him, Vinatieri for me) and watched the Colts/Bears game with the Reverend and his Missus, while their kids and ours (my hub’s boys, now my stepsons, that is) played football outside. Sniff…The memories!

If a Bears fan can marry a Colts barely 7 months after Superbowl XLI, and then watch a Bears/Colts rematch minutes after tying the knot, I think you and your dates can catch a college game at sports bar while still socializing. :)

(BTW, watching football together remains our second favorite activity!)

May the wind be always at your back, and may your placekicker have icewater in his veins.

Bears WR Brandon Rideau Released
Wide receiver Brandon Rideau, who led the Bears and the entire league with three touchdown catches in preseason, has been informed he will be placed on waivers. It’s an indication the Bears will go with six wide receivers and that veterans Marty Booker and Mark Bradley are most likely safe. ight end Fontel Mines, who spent last season on the practice squad before a brief promotion to the 53-man roster at the end of the season, has also been told he will be placed on waivers.

I’m really disappointed with this. Booker is not going to be an important part of this team, and he certainly won’t be in the coming years where we hope we will have a better chance to make the playoffs than this year. I call this a mistake.

I'm glad

it was him over Bradley, but I’m not so sure about him over Booker.

Well the Bengals cut Rudi Johnson

I wouldn’t mind cutting Kevin Jones and replacing him with Rudi.
I think Rudi is still a pretty darn good RB

Agreed

Plus, Johnson would have to sign with us, come to Halas Hall, and learn the playbook in a week. And this is only if we drop KJ and get him to Chicago within the next seven hours.

Well I don't think he would start

He’s a veteran guy who can definitely take some carries a game. And I believe he’s a lot more durable/proven then Kevin Jones.

In other news I just saw the Giants released QB Andre Woodson. I remember he seemed to be a WCG favorite during the draft.
Obviously he’s not going to come in and play this year. But I wouldn’t be surprised if the Bears looked at him.

Sounds like my close friend Kirk Barton is safe, right?

Willie Anderson

was cut by Cincinnati
I think he could start for us at left tackle and be an instant upgrade. He’s older, but definitely more established and proven than St Clair, who is really needed as a quality backup across the line

It'll

be interesting to see what they do tomorrow. I saw that they will likely take a look at several O-line options, so hopefully they can make some kind of upgrade.

We better get Willie Andreson or Chris Simms, or both

but the odds of either happening seem very low. Do we cut Rex to bring in Simms? I would. Is it me or does Willie have Reuban Brown written all over him??

by escolio on Aug 30, 2008 9:43 PM CDT reply actions

We NEED

to sign Anderson and then consider Simms if it will work with keeping Hanie. They need to be sure that Simms would help though. No use cutting someone with future potential to add him as a third-stringer.
