Will this be available during the regular season?

I live in Tampa, and I want to watch the Bears every week.

they guy started one year right?

someone pointed out once that shart only played one year, and the guy ahead of him the year before wasn’t a big name.

apparently tomlin said something about him not running hard.

Rex is looking good.

The defense seems to pressure Rex more than Orton.

by beardown on Aug 7, 2008 8:08 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Yeah and he tried to safely squeeze a ball on the sideline.

Smart move when there is no play. Throw it away, but he did try to put it where only his guy could have a shot. He was under pressure too.

Kick it to me... I'm open!

Oh and Rex is down.

Well if he can learn how to get out from under center he may do ok. Erik Kramer says the guard stepped on him as he backed out, but they didn’t show a good angle on the replay.

Forte looked like fast and athletic tonight.

I love that he catches the ball so well out of the backfield. I hope the line blocks for him this year.

Special teams not looking so special tonight.

But what the heck it’s the first preseason game.

Wow

Imagine how angry Chad would be if he heard about Williams.

Wolfe looks amazing and he is being used better.

Screens and draws. I think he can be used like Westbrook and have said that a lot. I’m sure many others agree. This just goes to show how bad of a coordinator Turner is. Everyone else sees the obvious and he still can’t use a guy to his strengths.

I'm getting a little pissed off here...

with the imbalance of talent that they’re putting out on the field between to two QB’s turns with the “first team offense”. Hester/Davis/Forte does not equal Booker/Wolfe, even if Wolfe got loose for a TD that no writer that actually watched the game will give Rex credit for. I didn’t think it made sense when they announced it, and its obviously not the case on the field. So why set the expectation that the two will be on equal ground so that the media can have at it comparing the numbers? a real load of BS.

on a positive note, Forte looked GREAT, especially running out into the flat to catch the dump off that he turned into a first down.

as mentioned, Wolfe is showing reasons why he’s worth keeping on the roster – showing much more potential already than what we saw briefly last year.

Hanie’s TD pass was great, but his overthrow of Polite earlier on looked equally bad. I don’t think he’s impressive enough to make me think we shouldn’t be offering the Bucs their 6th round pick back for Simms.

I've been getting shit for over a year now for backing Wolfe

The kid flat out makes things happen.

On Hanie: his throws were soooo inconsistent. It was laughable.

I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

he has two big plays in two years then?

one in preseason and one against the prevent?

Tonight you saw Wolfe used more to his strength.

We both know Turner doesn’t know how to use a guy. Screens and spread formations and draws for this kid. Running off tackle and up the middle on 3rd and one isn’t his specialty.

I’m not saying he is amazing, but he looked like he could be productive when used to his strengths.

Neither looked good.

Orton had better protection did ok, but fumbled the ball for no reason while scrambling. Grossman made made a few bad throws and was under pressure, and didn’t look spectacular or bad. He did fall on his butt coming out from center after a guard stepped on his foot. He threw a TD pass, but it was mostly Wolfe who ran for 25 yards on a 5 yard pass. Not much to make a call on tonight. they both need more throws. Caleb Hanie looked very sharp and mobile. His WR’s were dropping balls, Monk and Bennet, but Hanie was very good.

Also, Forte and Wolfe both looked excellent on screens and runs. We ran tons of screens tonight.

Let me add this....

Bennett should not be returning kicks… he doesn’t have the instincts for it.

Flow

...(meaning “agreed”). he also completely lacked technique / body control – wasn’t waiting for his wedge to break before sprinting up to it and I’m pretty sure got taken down handedly by some guy’s wrist that was thrown at his shoulder when he had blockers and an open lane in front of him.

I know I’m jumping the gun on this, but this guy doesn’t look like a #7 3rd round pick to me at first glance, especially after he dropped that pass on the last drive of the game. if the announcers were right in that Hanie got the ball off too early, then I’ll forgive Monk for his drop.

anybody else think we had too many receivers out there on too few plays to get even a decent picture of them individually? I doubt any receiver that wasn’t a RB caught more than two balls before being pulled from the field.

fell on his butt...

So it is his fault that his guard stepped on him? Good try.

And the TD pass was actually a nice play by Grossman, as he looked off a couple options before going to Wolfe.

And Hanie was not very good. Decent? Maybe. Very good? Not even close.

by big_lowitzki on Aug 8, 2008 9:56 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I think most people on here just like to argue.

Ok, whose fault was the guard stepping on his fault. Was it a fluke, both of their faults, did the guard backup wrong, what? I just said what happened.

On the TD, I’m not saying Grossman didn’t make the pass, but in all reality Wolfe worked that play hard core and used his speed, balance, and vision, to break that run into the endzone. QB’s are suppose to make 5 yard completions, but I wouldn’t say it is the same as threading one down the sideline into the endzone for a score. Wolfe earned the TD, Grossman made an everyday dump pass into the flat. Not a big deal for Gross or any QB. Not a big accomplishment for him, I guess.

Apparently, we just viewed how Hanie played differently. That’s fine. I saw some crisp passes, great mobility and decision making, leadership, poise, and was very impressed by that. Was every pass perfect? No, but he played well. First NFL game of his life and I like what he did in that game a lot. He looked better than both our other QB’s. I wouldn’t start him, I’m not going there, but I thought he did well in his first game. Yes I know it was against 3rd stringers.

There is more...

... to playing quarterback than making accurate passes.

one of Grossman’s struggles has been that he forces balls and makes bad decisions rather than looking at 2nd, 3rd, or 4th options. Grossman did better at looking off people late in the year last year, and that Wolfe TD was a perfect example.

by big_lowitzki on Aug 8, 2008 2:15 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That Wolfe play I've seen on a lot of replays.

I didn’t see any looking off. He pretty much dropped straight back, paused for a second and threw to Wolfe. It looked like Wolfe was the primary receiver coming out of the backfield. I do think he checks down more and has relaxed on forcing balls. He did force one in the game, but it was on the sidelines where it couldn’t be picked and he had to get rid of the ball anyway.

Kick it to me... I'm open!

defense

Did anyone else think the defensive gameplan was pathetic? I know it is pre season, and will be pretty vanilla, but to not attempt one blitz? I am really concerned about the Bob Babich era and yearn for Rivera. How can we hope to be an aggressive defense when we sit back in this bend but don’t break defense. They should be attacking and it starts in the preseason. You just don’t turn on aggressiveness in the opener, it is tone throughout training camp and sokmething I didn’t see at hte game at all. Very dissapointing.
