why arent we talking about this

b mac is out for the season. what the hell.... i really liked brandon at the nickel and in my opinion this is a huge loss, even if lovie seems non chalant.
Let the d manning experiment continue.
“We’re very comfortable with Danieal playing,” said coach Lovie Smith. “He’s always been one of our guys. Danieal has played a lot of football around here.”
McGowan’s injury comes one year after the Bears lost a pair of safeties in Mike Brown and Payne to season-ending injuries in Week 1 and Week 4, respectively.
“It’s a loss, but that’s life in the NFL,” Smith said. “You have injuries. That’s why you look to have your 53-man roster as strong as you possibly can get it and just know that history tells you guys will go down, especially it seems like at the safety position. So it’s the next guy up for us and we feel lucky to have a player like Danieal ready to step in

I liked Brandon too
But his three ST penalties downgraded him in my eyes.
Nothing we can do. Hopefully D-Man can fill in and Lovie won’t screw with him as much anymore.

yeah but
i thiought babich and lovie were really on to something with the nickel package and bringing pressure with briggs and urlacher. i am worried how this changes that with daniel, considering they still are not sold on him being a nickel in the first place.
i dont know if you heard the press conference on the web site, but lovie insinuated that they might try some other players and combinations. lets face it, they werent sold on manning during training camp at any position and im not sure they’ve figured it out yet.
I agree
B-Mac was good in the nickel. I won’t argue with you there.
I didn’t hear the press conference, so I’ll take your word for it. I didn’t think D-Man is horrible in the nickel tho, I think they’ve moved him around so much that he’s gotten confused as hell. Hopefully if Hester can’t go, D-Man can return and they can figure something else out for the nickel.

We screwed up
Should have kept Harris at Safety and R Manning as nickel back. I know they wanted more speed, but those guys were/are playmakers.

i dunno
mcgowan is pretty bad in coverage. his strength is tackling hard (though he misses enough tackles to make me wince a little). this, of course, is key when we bring pressure in the nickel, but i would hope the coaches can figure this one out – wait, what am i saying?
Maybe this gives Steltz a chance to shine?
I know he probably isn’t the prototypical nickel but this could at least get him onto the active roster.

I think Graham could be a more than adequate answer to move up the depth chart. Whatever they do I hope it doesn’t mess up some of the fun defensive calls we’ve seen these first two games.
Graham might get a call
but again they are considering leaving Hillenmeyer on the field. They have done it before.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
Those defensive calls are made possible with Mike Brown
They started off last season’s opener doing some of the same things, but when Brown went down, they stripped down the D a bit. Having Brown back there gives Babich the confidence to be aggressive up front.
I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

I never liked McGowan that much anyway,
This solves a problem as far as I’m concerned.
1. He’s weak in coverage.
2. As the nickel back (why on earth was he our nickel back?) we were using a safety with bad coverage skills, instead of one of our CBs
3. The guy’s always friggin hurt anyway.
In the nickel, we should have a speedy DB with decent coverage skills, to keep up with the typical small, fast slot WRs.

i wonder if
lovie reaches out to john lynch in the near future.
i think lynch is done
and hopefully we learned our lesson on signing washed up safeties last year.

john lynch
and adam archuleta should not even be placed in the same sentence. the comparison isnt valid…just look at their stats over their careers.
