Bears Acquire Buenning

http://www.profootballtalk.com/2008/09/02/bucs-send-buenning-to-bears/

Has played both guard and center for the Bucs. I don't know much about him. I'm not sure if this move was made to finally get an average starter out there at LG or to just bring in some more depth, but at least the front office has done something to try to improve the o-line.

Anyway, as long as the pick we give up isn't higher than 4th round, I'm happy with this deal.

It would be nice to get some opinions on this guy from people that have actauly seen him play.

Hmm...

Just posted the same thing. Interesting choice.

Some more info:

Buenning (6-4, 320) started all 16 games at left guard for Tampa Bay in 2005 and he started seven of nine games in 2006 before being placed on the injured reserve with a knee injury. He was inactive for every game last season.

I hope we gave up a 1st round pick for him

Jerry does work in the later rounds of the draft. Someone who wanted to take our 1st rounder off our hands would be a gift.

but...

good luck with that… considering the Bears love to have position battles amongst mediocre players.

Damn

I was ecstatic when I saw we drafted him. So much potential, but ravaged by injuries. I really hope he finds his way back on this team.

Metcalf must have pictures!

I agree Metcalf has been brutal since they got him. I remember about 3 or 4 years ago in th preseason he gave up 2 sacks in a row and Mike Ditka said well that he will be looking for a new line of work blocking like that, but somehow he has hung around!

Jerry Angelo, boy genius

The Bucs traded Dan Buenning only after they were able to pry Sean Mahan away from the Steelers. So here’s the tale of the tape:

—Bucs get Sean Mahan, a 16-game starter last season, for a 7th-round draft pick.

—Bears get Buenning, who started 0 games last year and got beat out at 2 OL positions, for a 6th-round draft pick.

I’m surprised other teams aren’t lining up outside Jerry’s door with trade proposals…

wow

where’s captain positive to bitch at all of us now?

what a joke.

by mike b on Sep 3, 2008 10:42 AM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, got beat out at 2 OL positions

while coming back from injury. And the guys that beat him out were former first round draft picks and Faine was a big offseason signing.

Dan will be OK

He is the silent but deadly type. Hell he started 16 games his rookie year, they went to the playoffs, started his second season too then got injured but has worked really hard to get back. I can tell you that if you speak to Sean Mahan, he is probably the most miserable guy in the TB locker room. He (like most players in Tampa) hates Gruden.

You are going to like this guy

He is a good player and a good person. He wont be arrested for guns although you may find him hunting in the off season. He won’t make waves but he will do his job!
