NEED LINK TO WATCH GAME
does anyone have a website i can go to so i can watch the bears game live. please post link
just heard
that hester is inactive for todays game.
Other than
giving us great field position on every kick (even when they don’t kick it to him) I don’t think it’ll really hurt the offense. Turner doesn’t use him the way he’s meant to be used anyways. Hope he’ll be back soon for the return game though.

Inactive List
Hester, Craig Steltz, G Dan Buenning (looks like a great trade, doesn’t it?), OT Chris Williams, WR Earl Bennet, DT Matt Toenia, & DT Anthony Adams.
a 6th rounder
for a player with starting experience on the line. sounds like a great trade.
I am like your Dan Aykroyd and biglow would be Jane, the ignorant slut. -Chad
Pretty sure
you could find plenty of guys off the street who’d be willing to sit on the bench without giving up a draft pick.
They could have been more proactive instead of just sitting on their thumbs and waiting ’til the last second to trade for an injured guy.

I thought the point was
to get some offensive line help. I don’t see how trading for an injured guy fills the need.

they ignored other options over the course of the spring and summer.

think more big picture man
everyone only sees things in terms of this game and the next…yes, buenning may be hurt right now but he does have starting experience so down the line he could become a valuable piece of this team.

Turner’s 230 yards in week one. That many yards against any team is not lucky.
Turner is going to be a Top 3 Fantasy RB. He did this same kind of thing in college.
Not too exactly sure about that
Turner ran well against the Lions which is not much to brag about. KC today kinda sucks too. They tried running against the Bucs and didn’t run for great numbers. They have tougher games ahead

Nothing about offensive line strenght, wide reciever strength – the most you can assert based on the data is that Joey Harrington was in the worst offenses possible in his career, not that he was principally responsible for it.

I don't care what people say, Orton is a good enough quarterback for this team
Anybody who’s going to throw the ball with this team will have a harder than average time because we don’t have much of an offensive line and will have to deal with pressure. He’s done as much as he can and I think he provides the team with the most stability.
Yeah, he's a good enough quarterback.
If, you know, you don’t really care about winning football games by scoring points. If you have some OTHER ideas in mind for what a quarterback’s job is, he’s perfect!
Lets cook us up some stability.
Throw in a cup of pick-6, a pinch of neckbeard, and cover it in inaccurate throws. But at least he doesn’t……ummmm……fumble?

I don't hate either Grossman or Orton...I would be okay with either being the QB
the problem is the O-Line sucks. If Grossman is in the game, he’ll do what he did last year because the O-line can’t give him enough time. Same with Orton, I just strongly believe Orton will make less mistakes than Grossman. Until our O-line improves, any QB we throw out there will look like shit.

Teams shorten up the field because Orton cannot throw deep, no matter what.
If you can extend the field – and Rex can throw the deep ball – you can open up more seems for our running game. And since we actually have a running game this year, that would help.

Look.
I don’t think anyone here would argue that Rex Grossman is a good quarterback. I think most of us would agree that he’s at best mediocre. But Orton simply cannot accomplish anything, and the Bears need to do something on offense. Rex can have horrible games, sure, but a 21-3 loss and a 17-14 loss are both losses. Rex can also have good games – he’s inconsistent, but Orton’s consistency is consistantly losing football games.
agreed. If neither is scoring points of offense, Orton doesn't have a leg up.

When he comes in for relief like he did in Oakland last year and against the Falcons in ’05 he gives the offense a boost. So maybe we let him give us a boost today

Rex kicked @$$ until he got Zooked.
Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.
Do you think Rex's best skill, throwing deep...
…is somewhat diminished by not having a consistent deep threat on the team?
Orton's completely missed Booker out in the flats twice.
If you complete some of those passes, not only do you score points, but you keep the other team from loading the box against Forte.
The Bears only really have two options at QB right now.
Objectively neither of them are really good, but one of them has to play football.
Then play Orton for two reasons.
1) He’s signed next year and Grossman isn’t so Orton will probably be the de facto starter unless they get the QB via FA or a very high draft pick. Get him more “experience”.
2) He gives the Bears a higher draft position.
Nah, I don’t really care, I guess. I’ve felt this season was going to be a lost season since the draft. Sure, they got some good pieces from free agency through to the draft, they didn’t really do anything to make the offense good enough to be competitive. They upgraded the run game, but downgraded the passing game.
"He gives a higher draft position"
Translation – “He’s gonna lose more games”
That’s not REALLY a plus

Yeah, maybe we do have a number 1.
By far Lloyd has looked like the best WR on this team. They need to keep him on the field all game.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
Imagine if they had Berrian, this resurgent Lloyd, Davis and Hester.
Rex’s throwin’ deep might actually be worth something.
Berrian seemed one dimensional to me
he was great on the fly routes because of his great speed….but he didn’t show me much with his route running
by aznsensation on Sep 21, 2008 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions
He wasn't great, but he wasn't that one-dimensional.
Besides, his “one dimension” just happened to be the one that played to his quarterback’s strength (Grossman’s, that is) and that no one on the team this year consistently has.
Who would you have let go because we gave out all the money to defense this offseason and Hester.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
Really? I'm glad we have them both.
I do think Jamar could have stepped in though and played well if Briggs departed. But we really got Briggs for a steal.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
Sure they did.
And they might end up w/ a Top 5 defense and a bottom-five offense. I’d rather have some sort of balance. It’s not always about “winning” negotiations and such, as Chicago-area fans so often seem to think.
I'm not sure, actually.
My plan would have been to draft Brian Brohm, and his biggest weakness is arm strength, so that wouldn’t have helped.
So really, I’m not sure. Probably, concerning the Bears had been preparing for Briggs departure but hadn’t been doing so for Berrian.
Berrian would still be on the bench I think...

isn't mcfadden injured?
He’s so injury proned, I don’t think he’ll play a full season to get the ROY. There’s still a lot of games left ago. You don’t need to declare who will win it by the third week. I think people were just saying that Forte is in the mix of winning it.
by aznsensation on Sep 21, 2008 2:41 PM CDT up reply actions
You're right. He played today with a steel toe in his shoe.
Didn’t look as good either. 3.2 ypc.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
Yeah, but his receiving yards 66 yards and a TD
His ypc is low, but none of us believe it is because of an injury. McFadden may have a playable injury that makes running more difficult. Forte has a lot of short yardage situational runs too.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
That's what all but one were doing.
Everyone else is clearly saying there are other guys and there is no reason to declare anything right now.
We're just talking dude. No one is giving the award away.
This is a board for talking about stuff during a game. We’re just excited Forte is looking so good.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
And I'm still convinced Forte will get hurt at some point.
Unless he’s the rarest of rookies and does something no one has done in seven years when LT was a rookie, he won’t be able to keep up this pace.
Darren McFadden if he isn't hurt. Maybe the guy in Tennessee running the rock. Definitely Deshaun Jackson.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
McFadden would have to have AP like numbers
Johnson doesn’t do anything for me…
Jackson would have to help the Eagles win the NFC East
Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.
He'd also need to prove that he can play WR consitently.
And he needs to show he is good enough to impact a big division race.
Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.
Not sure that the NFC North is a big division race.
Packers and Vikes are lower level playoff teams in the NFC, Lions suck, and we’re not that great.
Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.
So if Desean Jackson were on a worse team in a worse division...
…putting up the same numbers, he’d have a better case for being rookie of the year? How does that possibly make sense?
Jackson is an idiot
did anybody see that cocky fumble walking into the enzone?
by aznsensation on Sep 21, 2008 2:36 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah, but if he keeps putting up a 100 yards, he's going to have a shot at the ROY.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
It doesn't.
Forte is playing well and is in the mix with about 4-5 other good rookies. Forte has a good chance if he stays healthy. Jackson is right with him imo.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
He has 2 100 yard games in 2 games.
He does not have to impact the division race at all. ROY has nothing to do with team play. That is an MVP award not ROY. ROY is best stats or best player, not best leader.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
Why would McFadden have to have AP-like numbers and Forte wouldn't?
Why do you hold other players to a standard you don’t for the Bears?
I judge based from previous judgements.
McFadden was a Top 5 pick, Forte was picked in the 2nd round. He’s been more impressive based off of his expectations.
Remember when we were kids and we mixed sodas together and called them "suicides"? It was OK though, because Dr. Pepper was always there.
It doesn't matter where you are drafted.
What are you talking about? All players are compared based on individually being good not draft order vs, expectations.

I don't like how it's done now. I think it should be done by expectations.

But it's not how you want to do it.
We’re talking about the actual award of rookie of the year.

Fine. Give it to the Devil Rays, for what I care.
It doesn’t mean anything other than having one good year, which doesn’t make a good career.

KO and field goals are different.
He changed his approach on kickoffs, not necessarily strength, although they always work on that. I’m sure they don’t want to screw up his approach on his field goals.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
He hasn't offically made a 50 yarder.
He did one time but there was a penalty and it waved off the FG.
Kick it to me... I'm open!
But at least he can do it.
Thanks for the info.

Well, if you can’t stop Brian Griese, you don’t deserve to win anyway.

wow, I come home just in time for overtime
and I get to see that. would have been better to just wait and see the final score.

Screw this team
honestly – total underachieving team. Lose two weeks in a row when you should have handed them their lunch.

I don't think they're underachieving.
Their offense made a showing today. That’s more than I’ve ever expected.
Besides, when one of the worst teams (the Bears) beat one of the best teams (the Colts), it’s hard to say they’re underachieving.
Well, these last 2 weeks of epic meltdowns are certainly underachieving.
The way the D has collapsed late in these games is embarrassing.
Tillman’s penalty was one of the dumbest I’ve ever seen. I don’t care what happened that led to it – you can’t do that in a situation like this.
When I watch NBA games I often call the fouls before the referees do. Sometimes it’s a gift. Most of the time it's troublesome. - NBA Observer
It depends on your expectations.
I don’t think the offense is as good as they were in the second half, and I don’t think it’s sustainable. I think they were up 10 because they over-achieved. They then lost because the under-achieved. I think Tampa Bay is a little bit better of a team than the Bears. An overtime loss is about what I’d expect.
I figured after the first three games this team would be, at best, 1-2 and probably 0-3. “Over” and “under” achieving is based upon expectations. My personal expectations, and a lot of objective ones as well, have the Bears as a not-very-good team. So, no, they certainly are not under-achieving.
