Divisional Playoffs - Saturday

AFC:

Baltimore (12-5) @ Tennessee (13-3) - 3:30 CST (CBS)

NFC:

Arizona (10-7) @ Carolina (12-4) - 7:15 CST (FOX)

I think the early game will be the best. Baltimore has a ball-hawking defense and Tennessee methodically moves the ball. I can definitely see that one being a close game. ChiFan13's prediction: Baltimore 17, Tennessee 10; WCG's prediction: Baltimore 21, Tennessee 17

I don't know if Arizona stands a chance versus Carolina. Delhomme to Smith is a lethal combination. But, who knows? No one expected to see Arizona thoroughly stomp Matt Ryan and Co. ChiFan13's prediction: Carolina 28, Arizona 21; WCG's prediction: Carolina 28, Arizona 24

Doing my best Peter King impresonation

I think I know that DeAngelo Williams is the key to the game.

If he gets going, AZ is toast.

Playoffs

Baltimore’s defense is just too ferocious. I don’t think Collins can handle this defense. Ed Reed is the best player on that defense, but Haloti Ngata is the reason Ray Lewis was an all-pro again. That’s what we need. A Ngata type DT to give Briggs and Urlacher some freedom.

Carolina is good. Dangelo Williams is a monster. Steve Smith is still a monster. I don’t see how the Cardinals can stop them. This game is a little tricky though. I counted the Cardinals out and they dominated the Falcons in the second half. I don’t know. I’ll take the Panthers I guess.

Agree with both of you

DeAngelo is necessary for the Panthers, and Baltimore’s D is crucial for the Ravens.

Up until last week I thought Arizona was terrible

but since they’re still in the playoffs I know I was wrong. They still don’t have enough talent to keep up with Carolina, I think. But I imagine it will be a better game than most people think.

On Haloti Ngata...

You are read the Bears need a huge D-Tackle to open up room for Urlacher and Briggs. That is why I think it would be smart to get someone like Terrence Cody out of Alabama their Nose Tackle he is a beast against the run at 6-5 and 365lbs.

A false start on the defense but not offsides

Or, at least thats how I interpreted it.

by halfblindcubbiegirl on Jan 10, 2009 8:13 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Unabated to the QB

Means that a defensice player has jumped offsides, but did not cause a false start. They stop a play (something they don’t normally do for defensive offsides), because they don’t want the QB destroyed by a player who has an unabated (no one in the way) path to hit (read: hurt) the QB.

I thought that a defensive player who jumps offside can jump back as long as he didn't make contact.

This also eliminates the “free play” for the offense if the ball gets snapped. Is this something new?I don’t recall hearing the call prior to this season. However,it probably is a good thing to protect the QB from getting creamed.

Ravens pulled off some magic to jump back up and get him

and fleeced the Jags in the process. Ozzie Newsome is much better then Angelo.

Ozzie Newsome's drafts are incredible

I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

of his TD celebration routine, which is jumping up and down like a shrieking teenager who just got tickets to go see a boy-band.

He said

“well, it wouldn’t surprise me if you were the guy who got two accounts and posted on here….you two are Einsteins.” So I called him out on it and told him that it was me who let the higher ups know about that and told him I’ve never met a classier guy or been to a classier blog. Then he proceeded to erase my comments (damage control) and banned me.

He’s like your annoying little sister….ignore him long enough, and then he gets distracted by another shiny object.

I can't remember

a more brutal game by a QB…especially against a relatively soft defense.

Steelers over Bolts.

Screw the Panthers!!!!!!!

I’m a BEARS fan living in Seattle so I have to get this off my chest. Back in 2005 when the BEARS hosted the Panthers, I paid a G in advance for NFC Championship game tickets anticipating that the BEARS would come to Seattle. Needless to say, Delhomme and Smith spanked the BEARS secondary and won 29-21. So were I was stuck with tickets that were useless to me because the panthers were coming to seattle instead, so I had to craigslist these tickets at a $300 loss (had the BEARS won I could have flipped the tixs for 2 Gs or more due to our much larger fan base, not that I wanted to).

I’ve been waiting 3 years now for the day for Delhomme and crew to be spanked at home the same way they did to us, and it finally came in the most embarassing fashion!!! 5 turnovers! Eat crow Delhomme! I’ll be rooting for Arizona the rest of the way.
