POLL - Terrell Owens & Filling the void at #1WR. . .

Imagine how dynamic the Bears' West Coast-Style offense would be with an elite wide receiver. A viable #1 threat lessens the pressure on Devin Hester & also frees up Greg Olsen & Desmond Clark to work up the seams. With Matt Forte coming out of the backfield, the Bears would field an offense other teams would actually be afraid of. . .

With word out of Dallas that Terrell Owens has worn out his welcome, a release could be imminent. Regardless of your personal feelings for the guy, the Chicago Bears owe it to their fanbase to probe these developments in hopes of improving our inept offense. A player with Terrell Owens' skillset fits the profile of what we need. This idea actually occurred to me last night & Neil Hayes of the Suntimes wrote about it this morning. Have a look: "Owens to Bears? Worth Considering. . ."

Lovie would never let that happen...

If he is cut, look for NE to sign him.

Things will get better as they improve...

If NE didn't already have Moss, I'd say maybe...

Maybe TO and McNabb can make up and be friends again?

Maybe the Giants will replace one jerk (Plaxico), with another?

Maybe Ray Lewis will give TO a second chance, after he snubbed the Ravens the first time around?

Maybe the Chargers will man up and add a real #1 WR?

I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

Nah, Bill Bellicheat is angry.

He’ll do anything to get back to the Super Bowl. Even if it means refinancing his soul with the devil by bringing in TO.

Definitely worth considering.

But with T.O. there is the type of publicity that is bad for our team. Could you imagine the tantrums on the side line after Orton over or under throws him three times in a row?

Agreed

We are a run first team with a maybe average QB. We could not maintain a guy like him.

well heres how i think about it

I believe the three qbs he has played for, were all better than Kyle at their respective times when he was playing for them. Nonetheless, irrelevant of the productivity he was able to generate with those three qbs, he still found a way to be disruptive and a cancer.

I just don’t believe it can work with TO and Kyle. Kyle cant get him the catches per game hes looking for, and that usually leads to a divided locker room with TO. I doubt he really gets cut, but if he does, he should and pacman should head to Raiderville.

by rahulsriram on Jan 15, 2009 5:44 PM CST reply actions

I'd see him going to the Giants

Although, the NY media will have a field day with him!

Erm, well if we are going to call Milton Bradley nicknames, mine is Fischer Price: yes, you heard it here first..

Win now?

I’m not sure I’d want a problem guy like TO, but he does have success initially everywhere he goes. I believe him and Garcia had at least one good year before things fell apart, and he had early success with Steve Young before he retired.

Then, he did help lead the Eagles to the Super Bowl with the Eagles.

Last year, he helped the Cowboys earn the best record in the NFC and seemed to have a great relationship with Romo.

So, if we think we’re in a position to win right away, TO is the kind of guy to take a 1-2 year shot with.

With that said, this is more of just me playing devil’s advocate to the TO detractors, and if I had to make a choice one way or the other, I think I’d rather not have TO on this team. I’m not sure we are ready to win next year, and he could really hurt the long term development of Orton or whoever else plays QB for us. Plus, even though he doesn’t get in trouble with the law, I’d hate to have the negative press that he eventually brings and he sets the wrong example for kids to look up to.

He does like to win, but he is a terrible influence on a team anytime there are struggles. So, if you lose 2-3 games in a row with TO on the team, that is when he goes crazy, and it makes it very hard for the team to recover.

TO has a good relationship

with only himself and maybe his agent, but that is only because he kisses up to TO.

Intially, Yes

When Romo first took over the starting job, that is when TO became productive in Dallas. Bledsoe insisted on using Terry Glenn as the go-to-guy, and Romo then threw to TO constantly. It won him the starting QB job, and it seemed like the two of them got along very well.

That has really crashed since.

by NovaBears on Jan 16, 2009 5:16 PM CST up reply actions

sure....

… but TO almost always has a good relationship intially, and then it almost always crashes.

by big_lowitzki on Jan 17, 2009 1:36 PM CST up reply actions

That was my initial point

If the Bears think he is the key to winning it all next year, he may be worth a 1-2 year shot. I think it’s a bad idea, but if management thinks they are close, he may be worth the gamble

by NovaBears on Jan 17, 2009 5:40 PM CST up reply actions

Say No To Cancers

We could probably get Holt from the Rams. He is a team player and not a disruption. There will be some good tall WRs in the 2nd round Nicks, Britt. Collie and Hey.

by luckie815 on Jan 16, 2009 5:54 AM CST reply actions

Britt

I’m a Jersey guy, so I have seen plenty of Kenny Britt over the past couple of seasons at Rutgers. This guy has a tremendous amount of talent, and has all of the tools to be a very good NFL WR. He has the prototypical #1 WR body, decent speed, and is pretty good at jumping up to catch the ball at its highest point. He also uses his body well on short routes, and can make some people miss.

Now, with that said, he does not do all of this on a consistent basis. Some people think it was because of the QB play, and others think Britt just takes plays off from time to time. So, attitude problems may be there.

Also, some have questioned his work ethic and desire to be a great player. I can’t personally say one way or the other, but that is a common rumor around Rutgers.

I think because of his upside, and our desperate need for a play maker, he’d be worth a gamble in the 2nd or 3rd round. I’d prefer the 3rd for someone like this, but I think he is being projected late 2nd, so we may need to just take a chance at that point.

by NovaBears on Jan 16, 2009 7:45 AM CST up reply actions

Two things:
Now, with that said, he does not do all of this on a consistent basis. Some people think it was because of the QB play, and others think Britt just takes plays off from time to time. So, attitude problems may be there.

We have that in Rashied Davis and every other WR we have. And I don’t know if I want to waste a 2/3rd round pick on another Earl Bennett.

I really hope that you’re wrong about his work ethic and that, because it sounds like he has the physical tools to be successful.

YES

dude is a good football player. i’d rather hear about him on the bears everyday instead of on some other team. Calvin Johnson made plays on the Lions so yes i think TO would be great on the bears who I feel are one major offensive weapon away from being a great team. That weapons gotta be a qb or a legit wr.

Maybe he brings drama. Maybe the drama helps the bears.

Mind your business tough guy

This is between GeauxBears and I, he has been running from me unfortunately for you I found him in “your Domain”. Just because someone brings some excitement to the WCG you get all offended. For “knowing it all” you should know not to be so sensitive over someone just trying to go just a little on the “lighter side of sports”. Calm down.

Get the sand out of your vagina, get over it and stop being obnoxious. I’m all about the lighter side of things and am not in the least bit offended, you’re just being obnoxious. I SAID FAREWELL.

Talk about obnoxious, holy smokes! LOL

I’ve had comments deleted for saying stuff like that so I have since refrained from doing so. But this is great. If that doesn’t get deleted there is some serious biased policing taking place here. I have kept it very cool since being warned by “The Man”. I haven’t cussed or used any sexually explicit remarks like that since, Wow!

CJ

“Calvin Johnson made plays on the Lions so yes i think TO would be great on the bears who I feel are one major offensive weapon away from being a great team.” if you’re going to quote me quote me.

In large this is a response to rahulsrirams post questioning how well a TO Orton combo might play together. My comments speak to the ability of great wrs to make good plays even when they are surrounded by crap… bears being better than crap in this remote hypothetical situation

Drama… the dude is selfish and borderline retarded but he’s good. drama queens only get as much attention as you give them.

by No It All on Jan 16, 2009 1:08 PM CST up reply actions

Sorry, I still don't get it. And I did quote you accurately.

What does CJ have to do with how well TO would do as a Bear? I don’t see how those 2 thoughts are even remotely related.

As for the drama part… you said his drama might help the Bears. You still did not provide any explaination of how that could be true.

So, for both of your points that I referenced, you did nothing to back them up.

So, in my last post, I actually copied and pasted your comment.

So how is it that I am not quoting you correctly?

It seems that you are not going to back your statement up, but rather blabber about crackheads and credibility.

Regardless… if you ever want to actually back up your 2 statements copied and pasted below then please feel free. Otherwise, I guess once again, you are just spouting off nonsense, and I won’t bother trying to continue this conversation.
