Jerry Angelo is jumping for joy
A day after Angelo appeared on both the Mully and Hanely show on 670 the Score and the Mac Jurko Harry show on ESPN 1000, he is jumping for joy. Why? Because ESPN has canned Dan McNeil (Mac). If you haven't heard both interviews I would suggest going to the websites and listening to them. On the Score Angelo is given lollipops instead of questions by Mulligan and Hanely. Mulligan is a Bears writer and reporter and needs to stay on the good side of Angelo. So he attempts to ask the tough questions but phrases them such that Angelo does not look bad. On the other hand on ESPN, Angelo is questioned rightfully so about controversial decisions. Of course he denies much and ignores the rest, but in the end he is the one looking bad. It was Mac who was asking him the tough questions, the ones fans want answered. Angelo barely appears on that show (Paxson despite having been good friends with those guys, won't come on). Because of the show's high popularity, these GM's are pressured into appearing, and they for sure do not enjoy it. But what do fans want a suck up reporter who is afraid of getting on the bad side of an interviewee asking the questions or a guy who is a regular fan and a master radio personality asking the questions. The removal of Mac is a sad thing for Bears fans, excluding the Bears GM. Another example of how Mac was one of the few Chicago sports media people to be real with the public is his criticism of Brian Urlacher. Nobody else dared consistently criticize the #54 who Bears fan never heard speak except maybe during a commercial.

The reason reporters suck up
Is because they need to maintain a working relationship. If a reporter grills someone like JA and pisses him off he is bound to no longer answer that reporters questions or grant that reporters request for interviews. Also I know that sometimes like in politics, if one of the beat reporters pisses off the candidate or politician, they (the politician) is bound to ignore all the reporters so then all the reporters are mad at the one guy or they are no longer getting quotes from him.
Fire Ron Turner!!!
Fire Angelo!!

This confirms my suspicions
That Jerry “The Don” Angelo is “connected” to one of the Families. Mulligan & Hanely are obviously much wiser than Mac. Here Jerry is considerate enough to even give these guys the time of day and here Mac goes acting as if they did Jerry The Don the favor by “allowing” him on the show. Mac is an idiot, give Jerry a little respect. Mac wants to be some kind of tough guy with Mr. Angelo, he deserves to get whacked.

It must have been from that interview.
His contract doesn’t end for awhile and there was no indication that yesterday was his last day. I mean it doesn’t make sense that he would just go out like that.

I don't really listen to Jerry anyways because what is he going to say?
You wanna ask hard questions well thats fine but don’t expect anything to get answered. Mac is a negative blow hole.
I say GOOD.
Let the damn guy get grilled in public for once because of a serious of bad decisions he’s made. Face the friggin music. he doesn;t deserve a free pass, no matter how delicate of a relationship the local media have to keep with him, in order to get their interviews.
Screw him. That’s life… you do a bad job, you should man up and face the criticism.

Alright then
Alright then. Let’s keep giving Brian Urlacher extensions and paying our defensive players, who sit on the bench half the season, like quarterbacks. Let’s keep blowing our first round draft picks and then blame the player and then once the player succeeds elsewhere blame the position coaches. Let’s keep the principle of no accountability. And let’s have no one in the media ask for accountability either or question the actions of the gangster GM without giving him an escape route in the question. The McCaskeys don’ t care about winning so they will keep Phillips and Angelo no matter what. Papa Bear is not around anymore; the reporters don’t have to fear anyone on the Bears.
When you say Wisconsin, you've said it all.
Alrighty
I realize that you’re upset with Urlacher, but be real here: This season wasn’t all of his fault.
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
I agree
of course it wasn’t all his fault. In fact since Jerry Angelo has been the GM the Chicago Bears have made many improvements. His first year we went 13-3, 2 years ago we were in the Super Bowl. Some Bear fans would not be happy if God himself were the GM. We could win 3 Super Bowls in a row and some fans would say we need a new GM. It amazes me.

3 Super bowls????
Hmmmm let me count how many Super bowls have we won since Angelo? 0! We have only won two playoff games since him too. Not too good. We won the NFC championship, one accomplishment. We had a window of opportunity to win a super bowl, and we blew it. Anytime I need to make the case for why Angelo should be fired, I just list off his first round draft picks.

Don't give any credit to Angelo for going 13-3 in his first year.
he was hired by the Bears so late in the off-season, that we already went through free agency and the draft before he even got here in June. He basically didn’t acquire a single player on that team, and only made a few shrewd cuts before the season began.
And he, like many of us, wanted Dick Jauron out of the picture, but was somewhat forced to give him a new deal after Jauron went 13-3 and was named coach of the year.

O.K. Fine
You may be correct, but what about the Super Bowl 2 years ago? Does JA get any credit for that? What about the bears having the second most wins in the NFC since 05 with 40 second only to the Giants with 41. Does JA get credit for that? But every one wants a new GM.

Good riddance
the guy was a pompous ass. Everyone that ever disagreed with the guy was a moron to him unless he was a show kiss ass. Bernstein is the same way. boers used to very good and got turned to the darkside by the genius boy bernstein. Mac..welcome to the sales dept at sears..
Boers and Bernstein don't know the difference between left and right
They pitch a fit and don’t let themselves to hear other opinions other than their own.
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
Mac is one of the reasons I don't like the local radio shows.
That was a very jerk interview. You can ask a guy tough questions and even push the issue, but at least act like you’re glad he’s on the show. All he wanted to do is gripe and complain. Some of the other guys had to save him and say something positive or else they would never have Angelo on again. Everyone deserves to be treated with respect.
I’m glad that someone was asking tough questions, but it would have been nice if they could have treated the guy with respect when asking the questions.
Thanks for the link to the ESPN interview, I didn’t know about it!
Kick it to me... I'm open!
he was treated with respect.
come on. they said they loved the guy for christsakes. The only time they chased him on something was when he said he wouldn’t discuss contract issues abstractly so they asked him about hester specifically.
the guy says he won’t discuss past issues or any potential mistakes, and won’t even say the oline is still a weakness. he lives in a fantasy world, and if he is going to play the “non answer” game with media guys then he should expect tougher questions. if you won’t answer the abstract, you’re going to be asked the specific.
that’s what we need right, more praise heaped on this mediocre team. OMG!! THEY’RE SO CLOSE!!!
