Braylon Edwards?
Adam Shefter was reporting that the Brown's may begin shopping Edwards and Winslow after signging a GM. There has been a lot of talk about the Bears potentially landing Boldin or Housh in the offseason. What are everyone's thoughts on the possibility of landing Edwards? What would you be willing to give up if he were available?
I think Edwards could be a dominant #1 WR if he can fix his dropsies. We may not have the best coaching staff to reign in his focus, but I still think he would be a major upgrade over anyone we have.

Depends on the price
If, let’s say, they’re asking for the same return as the Cardinals want for Boldin, no way I would want him.
Honestly, they’d be foolish to deal him unless they’re getting a great return because his value is at the lowest it’s ever been.

Not Really...
Why would you prefer Boldin who has never done anything without Larry Fitzgerald who draws most of the coverage from opposing defenses. Plus he is a warm weather receiver who has his own big problem with drops. Edwards does have stretches where he drops the ball but the majority of his career he has been making ridiculous catches. It would be stupid for the Bears not to give up a 1st round pick for him.

Unless we can get a Mays or Sanchez...
or Harvin. Has anybody suggested that possibility yet?

Sanchez
will not be a first round pick. He has prove to be inconsistent therefore I wouldn’t be surprised if he stayed for his Senior year both Todd McShay and Mel Kiper agree. But yes I would prefer Taylor Mays, I not sure about Harvin, he is a beast but he always seems to be injured. However that might be because he is a small guy going against linebackers because he is running so much, and in the NFL his carries would most likely be reduced.

Are you kidding me?
Were you living under a rock Boldin’s rookie season? In his first year in the league and his only without Fitz, he caught 101 passes for 1377 yards and 8 touchdowns. Boldin, as a rookie, had a better year than any Bears’ receiver in history. And you don’t want him????
Boldin has played in 80 games, Fitz in 76. Boldin has 76 more receptions, 519 more yards and six less touchdowns. I don’t get why you are down on one of the league’s premier wide receivers and a player who’s toughness would fit perfectly in Chicago.

The only legitimate reasons
you don’t want Boldin is because you don’t want to give up draft picks or don’t want to shell out the kind of money you would need to for him.

That's before
he started guzzling 5 hour energy shots. Now he can’t catch a tennis ball with velcro gloves.

Edwards...ummm... no
having another “pro” reciever that can’t catch will solve nothing

i dunno
braylon dropped a ton of balls this year. i doubt cleveland trades him for much less than what the cards want for boldin. if edwards could be had for a 2nd plus, do it. i really think we need that #1 to get a top FS, so i want to hold onto that pick. i doubt cleveland would do this, though.

Agree
I’d want Boldin first, but if the Bears could get Braylon for a 2nd, plus a conditional pick depending, I’d like to see the Bears make this move.

Potentially yes.
But do u want Edwards and Hester, two guys lacking in the hands department, as your 1 and 2?
Not saying Edwards isn’t a gifted athlete or a great route runner, but the man can’t catch the damn ball.

I think Boldin would be the better option
isn’t Edwards more of a speed guy and a deep threat? If so, Hester fills that role.
Boldin is bigger and stronger and I think it would be better to have a guy who can fight through double teams and break some tackles.
Not saying I wouldn’t take Edwards if that was offered, but Boldin first.

what about Torry Holt?
Has anyone heard about his availability? I’d take him over Edwards and Boldin.
by samurai_ewok on Jan 8, 2009 8:11 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Really.
Do you really want another Moose experiment? He’s 32 and coming off of a dreadful season by his standards? He might have another good year or two in him, but he’s probably not the same guy anymore, and he’s definitely worse than Edwards and Boldin.

Maybe
but winslow is always hurt. as long as olsen stays off motorcycles, i think his ceiling is really high.

As for Edwards dropsies...
TO drops a TON of passes too… so does Brandon Marshall, yet both of those guys also catch a TON of passes.
Edwards caught 80 passes a years ago for over 1200 yards and 16 TDs. Yeah… you guys are right… he sucks.

Chad Ocho Cinco was great a year ago
and didn’t do diddily squat this year. I’m not going to put people on a pedestel they shouldn’t be on.

He had a qb who was playing out of his mind
his qbs were all average/rookie/below average this year… and he was awful.
Gee, I wonder how he’d be on the Bears where THAT is a chronic situation?

Braylon
is NOT T.O.

Edwards is interesting
He is a lot younger, he did drop a lot of passes, you have to wonder if being thrown to by 4 different quarterbacks, crappy team, etc…but most of its all on him. At this point it seems like he might cost less to extend then Boldin and he does have a few other aspects that might make him a more responsible investment.
It’s very hard to compare because its all about relative cost, in terms of trade, extension(or losing them after this year/letting them walk) and cap space(as things stand now Torry Holt takes up the most by a wide margin I believe, Boldin is super cheap, etc).

5 hour energy
there is a crash afterward… just saying there is a credibility issue here.

Not worth a #1
I don’t think any team would give up a #1 after all the drops he had this year. He may have had 4 QB’s but this guy was dropping passes that were right on the money, with consistency. However, if the price was right… I think he can get better.

My Rebuttal
Rashied Davis could have been a decent WR this year if he caught the ball 1/4 of the time. The bottom line is that if a WR can’t catch the ball we don’t want em.
by 3ndOutBears55 on Jan 11, 2009 10:42 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Braylon Edwards or Rashied Davis?
Edwards had 55 rec. for 873 yds. Davis had 35 rec. for 445 yds. I couldn’t find how many drops but I am sure their close. Braylons long was 70, Rashieds was 36. I take Edwards.
