Tebow to da Bears?
What do you think about the Bears picking up Tim Tebow? I respect the guys heart and talent and I think he could be a pro bowl caliber QB. Not to mention, a QB that can scramble and already has a good arm could open up the playbook a bit more for the Bears. We have pressing needs at early rounds (DE, OT, S, LB) and if Tebow falls after a good pick or two I don't see why not. Talk amongst yourselves.
P.S. - PICK UP A WR IN FA!!!! WAKE UP ANGELO!!! I'd rather see Orton next year with a good free agent like Boldin or Housh than a new QB starting anyway.

Oh no....
Not another cross-thread argument between big and No it all.
If anything, the national championship game solidified the fact that he’s not ready for the pros. Running out of the option allows him to throw. Anyone see his pick to the FS? God Almighty, he practically stared down the WR. The FS just swooped in from ten yards away and picked it.
He is a great kid and a great individual; a very high-quality person. BUT, he is not our QB of the future and he is not an NFL QB.

Ya and that pass wasnt throw where it should have been either.
Speaking of safeties…that hit the flordia safety made right at the start of the game was a thing of beauty.
As for Tebow I’d take a flier on him later on, but someone will probably do something stupid too early. I’m sure Lovie and his expert staff can move him around to 4 or 5 positions and talk about his potential a lot.

The first pick was Tebow being stupid and underestimating the Oklahoma DB's.
They’re bad, but not THAT bad. And the second one looked more like he didn’t see the two DLinemen drop back. He at least went for the tackle after the pick though, helping execute a perfect pratical joke style forced trip.

I just don’t think that he will be a successful NFL QB.
And I honestly have no idea how people could have watched the game tonight and come out thinking that Tebow will be a decent/good/great NFL quarterback.

Tebow
What exactly did you see from Tebow that leads you to believe he’ll be a pro bowl QB? I saw a QB who couldn’t manage the game with his arm, but with his feet. There’s no denying Tebow is a monster at running the ball as a QB at the college level. But the guy is not an NFL QB. No team uses the QB the way he plays. It’s one thing to drop back, go through your reads, then take off. He doesn’t even go through his reads. He just runs. He’d be real good if the Bears were a Rugby team. Anybody remember Tommie Frazier? Tebow’s Frazier part 2.
by McRipper on Jan 9, 2009 9:34 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
Tebow would be a good 6th or 7th round pick
if he comes out this year, he would be worth a low pick, let him run the practice squad and see if you can develop him. He is a good leader who isn’t very good at making more than 1 read. Picking him higher than round 5 would be really dumb.
Tommy Frazier is a good comparison. He’s a 3rd-world-country-dirt-poor version of Vince Young. Minus the crazy.

Whatever
This whole narrative of Tebow is so great (fact), but “I don’t think he is going to succeed in the NFL” (opinion) is lame. Maybe you are right and his success won’t carry over, but most of the anti tebow rhetoric is not based on fact or performance, but is based on doubt and uncertainty because the NFL has never seen a qb like tebow.
his 10-15 yard runs are nice, but it is his presence inside and out of the pocket and ability to break tackles buying WRs valuable extra seconds will make him extremely dangerous especially in play action and maybe even the wildcat/cajun with hester/forte.
by No It All on Jan 9, 2009 11:57 AM CST reply actions 0 recs
skills are a good thing
the general impression i get is people see Tebow’s mobility as a negative at the NFL level. As if his skills are going to get him into trouble. Maybe to some extent it makes him more likely to take hits from bigger guys, but it is easier to teach an athletic qb like tebow to stay in the pocket and use his athleticism and size more sparingly to avoid injury/TOs , than it is to teach a qb like orton how to run faster.
by No It All on Jan 9, 2009 12:09 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Wait a minute
because the NFL has never seen a qb like tebow.
Vince Young, anyone? Oh, that’s not a good comparison. Vince runs faster than Tebow.
How can we base Tebow’s NFL performance on facts? If we could, why does Mel Kiper Jr. still have a job? The point is: No one can quantitatively predict a rookie’s performance and/or life in the NFL. If they could, Lovie and Jerry wouldn’t look like idiots on draft day.
It is my opinion (which is backed up by past experience) that Tim Tebow will not be a starting NFL QB. Chris Leak: Great college QB, couldn’t make it in the pros. Troy Smith? Heisman winner; couldn’t beat out Joe Flacco. Jason White? —I’m hearing crickets—-
A lot of Tebow’s success has come through the ground, and that’s great. The only reason Texas won the national championship was because Vince could run like a damn deer. He could check down, and if no one was open, just take off. Vince used his agility to avoid tacklers. Tebow has little agility. He’s a bruiser more than a runner.

its a rhetorical question
u ask a rhetorical question, point out how your question is rhetorical and then u ask me why i haven’t responded… umm the short of it is that polish sausage summed it up when he said “Nobody anywhere knows who will and who will not be a good NFL QB”. That includes mel kiper, sorry chifan. I do not know for sure that tebow will be a successful qb in the nfl, people don’t realize that similar if not the same uncertainty applies to assertions that he will not be successful. All I have seen is him succeed and with failure so noticeably absent i think this kid will continue to succeed. Acknowledging that he has been very successful and has not yet faltered others are still determined to assert that he will fail. If i can’t prove he’s gonna be good, then the opposite is true and his impending failure cannot be predicted. Obviously and Irregardlessly i’m right and you are wrong tho.

It's simple
You’ve been presented with the argument that Tebow will not be a good QB in the NFL. You’ve been shown how similar QBs went on to be busts in the NFL, you’ve been shown that he doesn’t have prototypical tools to succeed at the pro level. Your agrument is that he’s the best. He’s so good that there hasn’t been anybody like him ever. Yet you’ve brought nothing to the argument to support your statements other than his college career and your opinion.
The reason we’ve compared him to other QBs is because they can boast the same credentials. Heismans, National Championships, stats, etc. and have done nothing in the NFL. Where is your proof to support that he will succeed in the NFL?
by McRipper on Jan 9, 2009 4:37 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
duh
all i have to work with are his college career and my opinion… got me.
I have no PROOF he will succeed in the NFL! got me again!. The absence of proof or evidence does not mean that such proof/evidence, and the material fact that it supports, does not exist, or is not true.

Mine is based on past performance = it has actually happened! When did I say that VY went 13-0 AND doesn’t start? I never made that jump in logic, did I? That was you. You said that Tebow’s failures were noticeably absent and therefore will succeed. I point out how VY also was perfect. So, you were proven wrong. Again.

You really are incapable of understand what people are saying.
None of us have said that because certain players with similar qualifications as Tebow have failed, that means Tebow has failed. Let me say that again. NONE OF US have said that.
This is what has happened, and I will say it has simply as possible in the hope that you may actually get it.
1 – You think that Tebow will be a great NFL quarterback.
2 – One of the key reasons you have given is because he has great numbers, a heisman, a bunch of wins, and national championships.
3 – We have pointed out that there are numerous people with VERY similar qualifications.
4 – We have used these examples to say that just because Tebow is successful in college, that does not mean that he will be successful in the NFL.
5 – What we HAVE NOT said is that Tebow will not be successful in the NFL because of his success in college.
6 – What we HAVE said is that Tebow will not be successful because of his abilities, his size, his style of play, etc.
Got it?

You have stated your opinion on Tebow. Most everyone on this blog has said, “We like Tebow too, just not real sure about his success in the NFL.” You have taken that, and tried to cram your opinion down the throats of many since then, really trying to force feed your opinion and have everyone agree with you.
It ain’t gonna happen!
The beauty of this blog, is that everyone can have an opionion… and many times, one person’s opinion is different from EVERYBODY else’s… and that’s okay.
But, maybe everyone should just agree to disagree… and considering you feel so strongly about Tim Tebow, and you really believe he will be a force to be reckoned with in the NFL, then just let Tebow prove everybody else wrong.
But seriously… you only damage your credibility when you bring out the “your mom” ststements… you are going to make it to where no one on this blog listens to you about anything…

its ok to disagree, but doing so presents this: If the Bears draft Tebow and play him at QB, then the Bears will be worse off at the QB position. Not only do i think this is crap, but u back it up with the even smellier crap of ….
If Eric Crouch’s (and other losers mentioned) college performance was not a guarantee or a strong indicator of NFL success, then Tebow’s college perfomance is/will not be a strong indicator of success in the NFL. As I pointed out before this line of reasoning/logic is weak, aka false logic.

the history you refer to is not compelling enough to logically PROVE what you want it to.

Huh?
How is comparing him to other “Running QBs” a weak argument but telling us that he’s a Heisman winner, national champion, unbelievable stats in college isn’t? Fact is, everyone one of those QBs had similar credentials. Ask them how life in the NFL is.

similar
but not the same. Tebow is and is not a lot of things, but he is definitely unique.
by No It All on Jan 9, 2009 3:40 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
how so.
You keep spouting a bunch of opinions without backing them up. I find it pretty funny that you say that our analysis is not based on fact or performance, when I don’t believe that you backed up one statement that you have made with facts.
WHY will Tim Tebow be a good NFL QB? HOW is he unique? HOW is different than a Vince Young?

you're right
tebow isnt any good. if you have seen the guy play, turned on ESPN, read a newspaper, or been on the internet in the last 2 years, then you should realize tebow has some unique qualities. If you need me to point those out because you are so obtuse then you should just give up and throw your computer out a window right now.

tebow isnt any good.
I have NEVER said that Tim Tebow wasn’t any good. In fact, up above I called him a “helluva” player. I just don’t think (and nor do many, many other people) that he will be a successful NFL quarterback.
But go ahead and keep creating strawman arguments, because you obviously can’t support anything you actually say, and you obviously can’t argue against anything that we actually say.

For the Record.
This was just a thought of mine. I’m not endorsing that I would necessarily want Tebow without a doubt, I was just throwing around the idea seeing what everybody thought and now I know. Knowing that Lovie’s system revolves around a dominant defense with an offense that can just move the chains wouldn’t call for a superstar QB, even though I do not approve of Lovie Smith. Like I said…just a thought, this is a blog.
Nobody anywhere knows who will and who will not be a good NFL QB.

Sounds like he is growing up. Just like a lot of young kids that have more talent than sense… hopefully he gotten it all out of his system, and will focus on football. Ryan has more pure athletic ability than any QB I have ever seen… he will blow people’s minds at the first combine he attends. I’m sure there are some crazy youtube videos out there on him… but I haven’t looked.

Being a Texas fan, you probably hate a lot of things. But no way, NO WAY is Vince Young more talented that Perilloux. Vince has more heart, and more fundimentals maybe, but Perilloux is still very immature. As I said, he seems to be growing up, but right now who knows.

Vince has more of that. Dude’s just a freak of nature.
Perrilloux is young, I’ll give you that. He may grow up and be a star QB….I have no idea.
And boo on you, sir, for saying I hate a lot of things. Just Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Mike Leach, and Ryan Perrilloux.

We deserved to lose that game. We played like crap in the 1st half, and should have won if our freshman FS catches an easy pick before the Crabtree catch.

Considering we had 3 true freshmen QB's to choose from,
And our first year under a new Defensive Coordinator, we hung in there. Jordan Jefferson will go crazy on some folks next year, and after the smackdown on Georgia Tech in the Peach (er, I mean Chik Fil A) Bowl, I have no doubt we will return to supremacy next year!

with the Bears surviving as long as they have on “toughness” to sell tickets (certainly not success) a qb that brings tough like tebow would fit well with the bears.

I can’t see the bears passing up on him if he is still there at 17 or 18. Tebow has Bear Football written all over him. Believe me, if he is there we will take him but first let’s see if he enters the draft.

I think Tebow is getting desperate
when asked if he’d be willing to play fullback in the NFL, he said it was his goal to stay a QB, but he’d do anything they asked him.

Theres no doubt
in the event that Tebow did translate his game to the NFL, Chi town would be one bad ass place for him to do it. He’s just an even bigger gamble than usual(especially with Bears coaches trying to teach him and fix his mechanics, etc).

tim tebow will not be a good nfl quarterback
no ncaa quarterback who has ever won a national championship or a hesiman has ever completed a single pass in the nfl.
tim tebow is going to get arrested for tapping his foot in a bathroom stall while making dogs fight and shooting himself in the leg at a strip club where he instigates a fight.
and he sucks.

Look mike b
Some of us need to be doing a little bit of research before we start flapping at the gums. Here’s two quick ones for ya, with out even having to think about it: Matt Leinart has a heisman trophy and he’s completed passes in the NFL, and Vince Young has a National Championship and has completed passes.
Maybe OU will have a better season next year, once Tim Tebow is in the NFL, as you are obviously an OU fan. A little butt hurt, huh?

Tell me it's not over, let's continue!
C’mon guys, the Chicago Bears, Monsters of the Midway, City of Broad Shoulders, Blue Collar, NFC North the Black and Blue division right? Were tough guys right? Tim Tebow, the second coming of Bronko Nagurski in the form of a QB. How can we resist? We have never been an air it out passing attack team anyway and we probably never will. Wouldn’t Tim Tebow be just what the bears need? The guy is cut from the same thread of cloth as us. Talk about a power running game! Matt Forte, Brandon Jacobs and Tebow baby!

HAHA! Great Joke!
Look, guys, I got the “joke.” I see that you four and I have very different senses of humor. Yours happen to be immature and rude. Laughing at/making jokes about gay people is inconsiderate and really not something I would laugh about, and then have the audacity to confront and heckle one who doesn’t find it funny. What I’m saying is that I’m trying to be civil and you four are getting some sort of sick satisfaction about an online joke and then coming after me.
