my lasting image of cedric benson
Everyone is going nuts this week about, the travesty of letting Cedric Benson go (probably the same folks who were screaming for his release) when we already have a good running back, I don't get it. Anyways, my lasting image of Cedric Benson will always be, him pulling himself out of the biggest game of his life, after he fumbled. He wasn't going to succeed in Chicago, and more power to him in Cincy, but it wasn't going to work in Chicago period.

Happy for him
I am happy he is doing well in Cincy. I haven’t heard too much of people complaining we let him go. It was the right thing to do regardless of what he is doing this year.
I'm happy for him
so long as we stuff him and beat the Bengals. I wish everyone great luck and success unless it’s against us, and then I just hope you regret putting the pads on that day.
I'll be there!!!
My first and in all likely hood, last live game this year…
The first Bears game I saw, was at Paul Brown Stadium in 2001. We SPANKED’EM!!!
24-0 if my memory serves me well… Let’s hope we’re just as fortunate this go ’round.
He was the right guy to draft at the time (unless they traded the pick, which they should have had they found a taker) and it was the right time to dump him…

Benson struggled quite a bit in Chicago, especially in '07
I’m not sure why he’s averaging about a full yard-per-carry more in Cincy.
And I don’t know much about the Bengals o-line.. But in the few You Tubes I’ve seen, it looks like they’ve been able to open up some pretty big holes for him to run through. I know that he always seemed to run straight into people when he was a Bear. There weren’t very many openings – but on the other hand he didn’t seem to be very quick or elusive. It’s probably a combination of factors that have lead to Benson’s emergence on his new team.
Best analogy I’ve heard: It’s kind of like seeing your ex-girfriend (who you dumped) lose 100 pounds and then go on to become a playboy centerfold – lol
but
losing a hundred pounds, you still have the stretch marks… he’ll show his weakness this year

I watched Inside the NFL on Showtime last night...
The same question was asked of Phil Simms – what the difference for Benson?
Simms’ answer: The Cincy offensive system fits Benson’s running style better than Chicago’s.
Personally, I’m not sure if I agree too much with that. O-Line blocks, makes a hole, running back runs through it. Both teams run inside, and out. From what I have seen of the Bungles and highlights this year, Benson appears to me much more aggressive behind the line of scrimmage. In other words, Benson is hitting the hole at full speed; not dancing behind the line waiting for a bigger hole. Kind of the same thing we’re seeing thus far this season with Forte. Are the Bear RB’s being coached to hop, skip, and dance?
If you watch the Miami RB’s, Ronnie Brown and the recovered dope-smoker are always going full speed. If there isn’t a hole, they blast into the back of the offensive linemen, and make a hole. How is that bad?
Benson is used similarly for receiving as Forte:
Benson – 8 catches for 65 yards;
Forte – 13 catches for 92 yards.

Small sample size.
No way is Benson anywhere near as good of a pass catcher as Forte. And I don’t know how his pass blocking has been in Cinci, but he was awful while here.
Metal sharpens metal.
And this guy right here understands and knows what leadership is all about: The coach, the hall of famer......... Dick Butka! George Ryan
Yup, Benson seems to be running
much more aggressively this year. And good for him too… it’s always good to see a player bounce back from almost ruining their careers.

I agree
I’m happy for Ced as well – he appeared to be heading for the scrap heap. I think it worked out well for both teams, who are more offensively balanced than before.
I also agree with dakoose – I was surprised the stats were that close (despite the small sample size), but Forte is definitely better in the pass game – receiving and protection…
Cincy could change their tune if Ced misses a pass protection assignment and Palmer ends up in some form of traction…

That's an interesting observation
He did appear to be a little more tentative in Chicago – maybe waiting for holes to open up, and not hitting it hard enough.
I just think that maybe he’s getting a little bit better blocking, AND he’s probably a little lighter and quicker. I remember them saying that he had dropped about 10 pounds heading into OTA’s last year before we cut him. Maybe that’s helping his burst, too.
...my lasting image of scrubby benson
was watching him get tackled by a MOTHER F#$%ING YARD STRIPE!!! (denver game 07 is one shining example). f that guy, i am really, really looking forward to watching him screw up and get obliterated by da team in a couple of weks.
