Gaines is a good guy
Very funny, he was really nice at training camp. Signed tons of autographs and was real nice to everyone.
Not an Olympics fan? Won’t the Bears possibly get a new stadium if Chicago gets the games? I just hope it isn’t a dome or a retractable roof and it’s still on the lake, if that happens.

if the park district didnt suck
No one would want a new stadium. Just put in some f’n turf grass as a Sweetness statue. If the Bears weren’t at Soldier Field what would the Park District do with it? Can’t even have a Super Bowl in the city. Get the ’16 olympics and the ’16 superbowl. The Chicago Jaguars(Raiders) can use it as their Stadium.

Ron Turner and Jay Cutler are developing trust.
Yes, Jay trusts that Turner will continue to suck, and Turner trusts that Cutler will bail him out and save his job.

I hope this is Turner's last year & big changes are made to avoid another collapse
I think Cutler is developing a synergy with Hester, Knox & Olsen. Regardless of the terrible play calling on Turner’s part. Which unfortunately is nothing new. I really wonder what it takes to get fired sometimes. I figured with the amount of blown leads last years & finishing 9-7 should have led to firings. It was enough for the Bucs to get a new head coach (fine thats working out poorly). I don’t get what it takes. While I’m happy with the wins the last two weeks its clear the secondary still sucks. Tillman makes one or two good plays a game & then undermines himself by making 25 bloopers of the week; often standing there looking clueless.
Who is to blame? Lovey! This has been going for a while with his coveted (aka crappy) cover 2 bad play. I was always under the impression if something doesn’t work you fix it. And if he won’t (seeing he runs the Defense = into the ground) its time for him to be fired. Its really overdue to send him & Turner packing. Make Marinelli the Defensive coordinator, hire a respectable Offensive coordinator & worst case Gruden or Shanahan. Either of which is far more qualified than Lovey & actually uses this innovative thing called discipline. And of course both have won.
The obvious is with the latter coach as he drafted Cutler, can control him & won’t stand for his BS. I sincerely doubt that Marinelli would continue the overuse of the cover 2 crap & probably would start cutting bad corners. I mean changes need to be made. Every single time an opposing offense has the ball, the front & middle parts of the defense are being forced to carry the whole defense. Its like a heart attack watching Tillman, Vasher & Bowman attempt to make tackles. UGH!
by Kayfabian Magic on Oct 2, 2009 1:08 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Gruden had been on his way out for awhile.
I’d love to see Turner shown the door, but I don’t think Gruden would be a good replacement. His playbook is ridiculously complicated, and he was not liked by much of anyone in the organization. Not to mention, I think he’s waiting for a HC job. Especially since he’s getting paid huge money by Tampa for the next three years if he doesn’t coach.
Marinelli is a Kiffin disciple, so the chances of him abandoning the Tampa 2 are slim.

Exactly
Everyone likes to trash it, but the fact is every defense has holes in it that can be exploited. The difference between it working or not is a) the quality of players and b) the coaches ability to mix things up to keep it from being too obvious. Right now, we definitely don’t have the former.

This kind of thing is driving me crazier by the day! We have a new QB, extremely new WR corp, new and revamped O-line, plus an extremely young secondary and LBing corp missing our Defensive cornerstone. AND the Bears have beaten the defending World Champs! This team has tremendous heart! And they’ll continue to improve. Each practice and game, these guys are continuing to gel. And the running game will only get better as they start stretching the field more and more!

Having been born and raised in Chicago and experienced mayors from the original Daley
through Bilandic, Byrne, Washington, Sawyer, and the new Richie, I can tell you that if we get the 2016 Olympics it will promise to be the biggest “F-Up” ever. Richie Daley is the most corrupt and self centered politician in the country and is looking at this as his legacy. Nothing in Chicago can ever get done the right way because of payoffs, patronage, special interests, and just plain greed. Not only will we pay through the nose, but the logistical nightmare will be monumental. Hell, as it is you can’t get to the airport without sitting in construction traffic for hours no matter what direction you come from, going downtown from the suburbs is a nightmare no matter what the day or time, and trying to find parking once you’re down there is absolutely ridiculous (not to mention that it will cost between $25 & $50 whether you’re there for an hour or overnight).
I hope that Obama pukes on someone at the meetings in Copenhagen and pisses them off enough where they give it to Rio. Just the fact that we brought Oprah as part of the delegation should be enough to turn Chicago down.

its only 2 1/2 weeks
Why not get some work for all of the unemployed. Construction is one of the hardest hit by the recession. Chicago will still be corrupt with or without the Olympics. Better to be corrupt and help create jobs than just bein corrupt. As long as the jobs are done by legal u.s. citizens.

No way
That’s the short-term thinking that will inevitably get Chicago into a myriad of problems. Here’s an excellent link that shows the problem with your argument.
Usually, if it was any other US city, I wouldn’t be this vocal against them hosting the Olympics. But both of my parents grew up there. I still have family there. The city is near and dear to my heart, which is why I don’t want to see them tank it after the Olympics. Here’s some other reasons why the Olympics are bad for Chi-town:
1) Daley is corrupt. He can’t even build a damn street without giving someone a little something extra. What’s he going to do when the cash piles are much larger?
2) Olympics = no real economic gain. That article I linked you shows that it’s a short-turn boom, long-term bust. Dan Bernstein was talking yesterday and brought up a good point: If we get these Olympics – once it’s over, are people going to say, “Hey, we’re bored. Let’s go to Northerly Island and get some kayaking in!”? I highly highly doubt it.
3) More eyesores for a city who doesn’t need them. We already have a field (Soldier Field) that looks like it was invaded by some drunk martians who didn’t quite know how to fly. The Park District can’t even take care of the turf! How the hell is Chicago going to manage an entire Olympics?
4) Chicago’s already a world-class city – the Olympics don’t necessarily prove that. People are already more than willing to travel to one of the best cities in the world without the Olympics. And, remember, you or I probably won’t be able to attend the Olympics – tickets for that will be a little over what we can get.

Great stadium
It may look bad on the outside, but the inside is all that matters. There’s not really a bad seat in the house, and it very intimate for a NFL field (not much space between stands and playing surface).

its easy to hate on it ,but
When you have generations of construcion workers and masons in your family it hard to not want the olympics. I can less about the games but lots of construction means lots of work for a lot of families who are on very hard times even if its only for 7 years. That money being spent goes to the people too. I think it will help more than hurt. Maybe by just a little but a little is better than nothing. It might be short term but 7 years is enough to put your kid thru college.

And I know half you will say, they will never have it here cause its too cold. But if you noticed Kansas City is getting a Super Bowl soon, go and check out the weather in January-February there.
Theyve said that they might start going to more cold weathered stadiums in the future, and if it has a chance to come to Chicago, I dont want to hear any of you saying you want it here that were against the Olympics. God forbid you pay a little more for parking.

Did anyone see?
Espn’s best plays in the NFL for September? They showed three Bear plays, but were all negative ones. Hester’s TD, or Knox’s against Seattle not worthy enough? Absolutely rediculous. Someone on a different thread said the Bears are not less respected than some other teams. I beg to differ.
Clips shown:
Cutler’s game deciding INT to Harris.
Big hit on Olsen.
Jennings game-winning TD catch.

I didn't see it
But that’s typical espn… I’ll listen to their radio shows and that’s about it… as far as sportscenter and NFL live go, I almost never watch them anymore (and happier for it). I do watch College Football Live now and then, but it’s nothing special.
NFLN shows have become my norms… Total access, NFC & AFC Playbook and Around the League are excellent shows imo. If NFLN would develop some College FB programming I’d probably never watch espn.
Well maybe never is a little strong. I’ll watch games and College BB analysis… other than that… no espn for me.

NFLN
The problem with them is their schedule; everytime I look for news or a replay it’s the opposite of what I want. Their analysis is leaps and bounds better than the clowns on Espn. Speaking of clowns- that twit Schlereth is picking the Lions to upset the Bears this weekend. He couldn’t provide any reason why they would, only that they finally have some momentum on their side. Wow, that’s some great insight there!

Schlereth sucks!
His opinions are always personal, rarely logical and never analytical.
Example: When M. Vick was getting out of the pen., Schlereth was asked where he thought Vick would end up… His answer, nowhere. Then when asked why he thought that way, Schlereth answered: Well because if I owned a team, I wouldn’t want him anywhere near my organization. WOW! Thanks for the (blinders are on) insight meat head.
For your sanity, I hope the NFLN’s schedule becomes more favorable for you.

No one who's not connected gets hired the city of Chicago
“Why not get some work for all of the unemployed,,,”
It doesn’t work that way, it’s never worked that way, and by the looks of things, it will never work that way here. NO ONE who works in construction, waste management, airport management, etc. under contract to the City gets hired unless they’re politically – connected. Period. The stimulus money was already given completely over to the Mayor for him to dole out as political favors to his cronies – and the Olympic construction would have played out exactly along the same lines. There would have been no new hires, just more of the same cast of corrupt firms that have done business with the city for generations. Expecting anything else just displays an acute ignorance about this city and the way it’s operated over the past 50 years.

We weren’t connected. Maybe to be an employee of the city you have to be connected but construction is done by usually by union workers in the city. Masons, laborers, electricians, pipefitter, etc. Still have problems with illeagals but that’s everywhere. The city is about the only place where the union has any power.
