NightLinks: Pisa Out for Season; OL Will Not Change
Pisa Tinoisamoa will have season-ending knee surgery, reported by the Trib.
Lovie Smith said linebacker Pisa Tinoisamoa will go ahead with season-ending knee surgery.
Tinoisamoa played in just two games after signing a one-year contract with the Bears.
Hunter Hillenmeyer practiced today, but was limited. Either he or Jamar Williams will play in place of Tinoisamoa.
Brad Biggs reports that the offensive line will not change.
Frank Omiyale is expected to remain the starter at left guard based on the information gathered in the locker room. There's been speculation that Josh Beekman, who started 16 games there last season, would replace Omiyale. But the Bears are showing that they believe in taking time to let a unit with three new starters gel.
Olin Kreutz offered his opinion:
"It's mostly learning each other," center Olin Kreutz said. "We have to learn exactly where every guy is going to be and like I said, when we get to that point, we'll be where we want to be, but we have to get there pretty soon."

Well, ifuwanna at one point
had the defacto “sideline reporter” gig down pretty well. But I reckon his jorb has taken him away a good bit. That might be a good place to start.

That might be something I could do, I love to write, hence my long posts and comments.
But I gotta work on this anger thing Ive been dealing with! But yea, I went to pretty much all of the Training Camp days, so I had a pretty good feel for the team. Plus me McClure, and Joniac are boys so I got some inside information to go to as well!

Also no new moves in signing a LB imminent
the Bears aren’t expected to sign another linebacker. They’ve already added reserves Tim Shaw and Darrell McClover at the position to bolster their special teams.
"I feel pretty good about the bodies that we have out there right now," Smith said. "Whenever you have a player like Pisa go down, hopefully we can get Hunter to fill back in. Our numbers are still pretty good."

I really wonder
if Angelo pulls Jedi moves on Lovie
Lovie enters office:
LS: “Jerry, we should really pursue Derrick Brooks, and moving Beekman to starting Guard”
JA: “we dont want to pursue Derrick Brooks or replacing Omiyale”
Lovie attends press conference
LS: “we don’t intend on pursuing another LB, Omiyale is our starting Guard”

Time to gel?
I realize that OLines can have some complex, interrelated blocking responsibilities, but don’t you first have to just block the guy in front of you first?

Gel?
Unless Kreutz or Pace are going to block two guys (theirs and Omiyaleoops’), I don’t see how gel-ing matters. Blocking takes more technique than we care to give it, but c’mon, block the guy in front of you before he gets to your QB or RB, #68 can’t do that
An O-line does need time to gel and get to know what to expect from each other.
However, getting knocked flat on your ass typically isn’t an issue of familiarity. There’s a big difference between a blown assignment and just getting flat-out beat by your opponent.

+1!!!
that’s what i don’t get, Lovie is “comfortable” “we just need time”
football is a short 16 games, and losing 3 or 4 of the crucial ones, now your season is basically over, and in a division that is nowhere near as weak as oh say the AFC West or NFC West, where 8-8 will win it… we need to be spot on EVERY week. 9-7 gets you a one way ticket to the couch in January

He's comfortable cause
He knows no matter what the record is this season he can blame it on all the injuries. Brian, Pisa, Kevin, hunter will be his scape goat.
I though he was comfortable cause
of all the quaaludes he’s on. Lovie always seems to be a valium shy of a coma.
If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.
So how many more games...
is Lovie planning on sacrificing in order to let the O-line “Gel”? I swear being a Bears fan sometimes really, really tests my blood pressure.

WHY NOT
sign Derrick Brooks. Even if its just for depth. I dont know about you guys, but every week I get this pit in my stomach right before the game about our pass defense. I have been pleasantly surprised by our record so far. I just feel like we are one good player away on both sides of the ball. I also found that when we lose, it is usually the next saturday before my depression wears off.
As far as letting the line gel…..Omiyale is getting beat off the ball on many of the running plays. By the time Cutler hands the ball to Forte he is staring at Omiyale’s defender. My wife told me after the game against the Falcons that I aged 3 years just from watching the game…..what can I say, I love my Bears.
I was against it until now.

Well this year seems to be a see what we have year.
So i say just stay with briggs roach and williams. As far as Omiyale maybe he’ll be the next one to go down with whiplash from the defender flying by him.
I'm not the power poster that
other people here are… but i was wondering if there is a post someone can put up, about Tommy Harris… and where the hell is he?
just a quick look at his stats this year, and averaging it out he’s on pace for
22 tackles, and 0 sacks down from last years
33 tackles and 5 sacks and down from
31 tackles and 8 sacks year before that
it’s not like teams aren’t running the ball towards him. I know his knees hurt, but this guy received a 4 year extension in 08, which at the time, effectively made him the highest paid defensive linemen in the NFL
If his knees are shot, then cut him. 0 sacks from our cornerstone defensive position is unacceptable.
to cap that off, we all sit here and revel in our sack stats, but 5 of them came against the Lions, so i dont know the exact numbers, but it’s certainly nothing to brag about.
thoughts?
Agree?
Disagree?
BN, shut the hell up, we need a WR?

all the WR posts and LB posts, and one of our prime Cover-2 positions is lacking, and most of us haven’t said anything about it since the year started

we are stuck with harris
Is a big reason I think people aren’t discussing him. The front office won’t cut him and eat up all that money. I don’t get the wr talk @ all…hester and knox have been terrific and bennett has been a steady presence too. LB is the big one in my mind since we are effectively down 2 starters and hilly is still hurting.

I suppose
but i just don’t get it. we swung and missed on Harris, fine don’t cut him, but sit him all this year, and half of next, then let him come back full force.
he is one of, if not the most, important piece to our defensive success.

He got his biggest roster bonus this year.
Here’s his contract by year:
2009: $620,000 + $6.67 million roster bonus
2010: $1.235 million + $2.5 million roster bonus
2011: $2.3 million
2012: $2.5 million
I think Harris will get traded or cut after this season. They’ve already given him his largest bonus, so they are gonna keep him on the field and make him play.
After this season, I don’t see how in the world he is still on our roster. I thought he had more in incentives, but after I looked, only another $2mil is available.
Good riddance.

thank you, I didnt know the roster bonus stuff, i thought he had incentives too, for pro bowl stuff (hahahaha)
but yeah, good stuff, if he got his biggest salary this year, i’d say we cut the fat next.

Harris is looking like a bust
But once again, as soon as we get rid of him, he’ll be “re-born” somewhere else – probably Minnesota – and return to pro-bowl level.
Exactly. And it’s funny that Kruetz said it. Because he’s just playing lights out right now.
Really?
You need to look at the tape of the game again and watch O.K.‘s play. He completely missed some blocks and at times looked like he was lost after the play began.
We seriously need a huge upgrade to center, guard and left tackle and I’m hoping C. WIlliams lives up to his billing. This line just ain’t making it folks!

said he believes that Omiyale has All-Pro potential. Not pro bowl, but All freaking Pro. Kreutz clearly is not a talent evaluator.

at tackle, sure, maybe
he’s playing out of position at guard. i think it was a good gamble to give him a shot for this season (my guess is, next year we’ll have williams at his natural LT spot and omiyale at RT), but it doesn’t seem to be working at all.

Just don't blame the coaches for this...
some people get very upset when you point out that the coaches are making mistakes. The Bears went to the SB in ‘06 and therefore they are beyond criticism. Just remember, the arrow is pointing upwards. Maybe Harris and Omiyale can swap positions. Then Tommie can just stand there and get in the way other DTs and Omiyale can disrupt the other team’s offense by falling into their backfield!
There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.

I like your thinking.
Shit it couldn’t hurt to try it. Shoot put wolfe on the line at least he’ll try to block someone.
Kinda amazed...
… at the doom and gloom here, folks. I bleed blue and orange, and am genuinely bummed at each and every loss. But here are the facts: a) the O-Line DOES take time to gel. No matter how easy it looks, every team that I can remember being referred to as a “dynasty” built a strong O-Line over time. One of our first aquisitions in building for the last run at the Superbowl was John Tait, wasn’t it? b) A mere 6 weeks ago, we were terrified that Rashied Davis would be one of the starters @ WR. Knox was a steal! Period! c) Please remember, we replaced the centerpiece of the offense (the QB). Jay Cutler, the WR’s, the TE’s, the RB’s AND the O-Line need to learn each other’s tendancies. Until they do, we are extremely lucky to be 3-2! and finally, d) I must be a complete idiot, because it seems like I’m the only fan who sees a lot of good going on with this team I look at the team now, and think back to the concerns we had during training camp. We were worried about the O-Line, WR, CBs and Safeties. They all seem to be doing a much better job now. As the O-Line improves, the running game AND passing game will improve. No doubt, we need more of a pass rush from the front four! But given all the worries we had back in July, I think we’re in pretty good shape!
Then again, what do I know? GO BEARS!
Getcha Beernuts Ready!
