A moment to vent: I don't want these five back here in 2010
And as I'm writing this, Cutler just got picked off for the third time in the game. Seems like the perfect time to vent. Right in the middle of the biggest asskicking in the Angelovie era.
5. Jerry Angelo- I want to punch the next person in the face that thinks that our O-line is fine. Really? "we like Frank Omiyale" Really? Gaines Adams was a better trade choice than Ernie Sims or Derrick Johnson? I've had enough of you Jerry.
4. Frank Omiyale- Die Frank Die!!!
3. Harry Hiestand- Why doesn't anyone single this guy out? Well I think it's time to right now. Jay Cutler's been beaten up all year, rushing his throws, throwing off his back foot, and forcing passes that aren't there. The Bengals were able to get pressure with four down linemen? All who had injuries???.
And the run blocking? LOOK AT WHAT BENSON'S DOING TO US! WHY COULDN'T HE DO THAT HERE?!?!
2. John Hoke- he was supposed to improve a secondary . hasn't happened. won't happen under Hoke. secondary is still getting beaten like a red-headed stepchild.
1. Ron Turner- Guess what, Dan Pompei? Perception IS reality, you pompous ass! Down 14-0 in the first quarter, Turner wants to call three yard slants to Olsen? HE WANTS TO CALL SCREENS TO FORTE AND CLARK??? no play-action, no nickel and dime throws, no momentum changing plays? That would've made John Shoop ill. I'm done with Turner. Bring in Gruden.

Whaddya
you want RT to do with no Oline, you can’t call anything but short slants/ curl routes, and screens.
yeah, fire RT… but no Oline = limited playcalling ability

if RT was a halfway decent coordinator he would be calling plays to compensate for the weak line play

you can only do so many
1 step drop passes… everything is dependent on the next, those passes require timing routes, which require time to develop an understanding between receiver and QB.
3 and 5 step drops require a pocket, something Cutler has not had here. grab a stopwatch for the rest of the season, he has had about 2-2.6 seconds to get a play off…not nearly enough time

Even roll-outs and play-actions. Anything to get the QB out of the line of fire of the defensive line. I don’t know, they all sucked yesterday coaches and players a like. I still think we have talent just look like we don’t care about the game. And now this stuff with Tommie Harris. Blah. I am trying to find Shanahan’s number as we speak.

++++++++++++++++++++1
There is not a single person in the front office or coaching staff that deserves to get paid today. It is one thing to lose. It’s another thing to lose badly. But there is no excuse for the performance I saw today. Wolfe up the middle. 3 yard outs on 2nd and 26? Can Olsen take a hit? Guess not you pussy! There is not a player or coach that should collect a paycheck for this game. Give it all to charity because no one earned it. This team is in horrible shape and it will take effort to win 3 more games this season. The quasi-ownership of this team needs to fire Phillips, Angelo, and Smith tomorrow. There is no excuse for this!

Ownership is worse than the coaching
Therefore, it’ll take them another couple of years to figure out that the management and coaching sucks!
Jerry and Lovie probably have a few more years and comments like “Frank is our left guard” and “I didn’t have the team prepared to play football today”

I'd rather have 5 years...
of rebuilding with a better coach thanks. Olsen wasn’t doing anything useful, so whether he was on the bench or not didn’t make any difference. Has this Bear’s team gotten any better since the SB in ’06? Lovie has not been able to right the ship since then, time to bring in new blood. The sooner the better.

alot of people are not thinking rationally now and i understand why because the bears got ran over. we all want to can management turner and lovie as well(some of us do) what if the bears run off 5 or 6 in a row? we need to wait it out a bit.
im not too nice…….if this losing streak piles up to 5 or something more severe youll hear me calling also.
by Bear Lovin 21 on Oct 25, 2009 8:07 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Better in the sense...
that at least the same coaching mistakes and front office blunders won’t spoil the fact that the Bears have Cutler and should build around him. JA and Lovie can’t do the job and it’s time to get rid of the failed past. You do know the Bears were 7-9 in the year after the SB, right? And 9-7 the next year. That’s awful for a team that had SB talent. Plus, they got rid of most of that team, right or wrong. Is there a part of the team, beside Cutler, that is better or has the promise of getting better? My criticism isn’t just because of this game. I was raising questions after the Seahawk game and I drew flack for not being happy with the lackluster win at Detroit. Now, I am fully convinced that this staff deosn’t have any answers to the problems. And I would rather cut the blood loss before the end of the season, when the Bears will get outbid for the services of a good coach. What more do you need to see to get that this staff is done for, no matter how talented they might have been 4 years ago?

Even if they somehow run off 5 or 6 in a row (which I don't see)
where does that leave us? Sneaking into the playoffs where we get completely exposed and blown off the field? Our line can’t stop bad-to-average defenses; what do you think would happen if we drew the Giants in the playoffs? I don’t even want to think about what the Saints would do to our secondary…

I am not a McCaskey fan either, but before we get into revisionist history
the Bears were going nowhere in the ’70’s and early ’80’s under George Halas. It was only when Jim Finks was brought in by Mugs Halas that things (drafting players, bringing Buddy Ryan) started to get better. Mugs passed away unexpectedly and George took over again and the development stalled. Now, granted Papa Bear did bring Ditka back, but it wasn’t until he passed away and the Finks/Vanisi regime had free reign did the mid 80’s Bears become dominant. When Finks was run out because Michael McCaskey decided he was a football man, the downhill skid began.
Before Ditka, some of Papa Bears great head coach choices were Abe Gibron and Jim Dooley, not exactly the Golden Age of Bear football. Toward the end, outside of the Ditka signing, he was a “not as bad version” of today’s Al Davis. A legend who had hung around a little too long.

I remember some of their teams from the 70's and you are right.
I would just really like to see them play with some passion again and I think that starts with the coaching staff. It seems like they lost their edge on defense when Rivera got let go and I have never been a RT fan when it comes to their offense. I am beside myself on how bad the whole team played today. Really poor performance.

I agree 100%
this team has lacked passion for years. The Wannstedt, Jauron, and Lovie eras have been a complete waste except for the one season where our lack of passion kept us from winning a very winnable Super Bowl against Indy.
I’m not wishing anything bad on her, but I really believe that until Virginia McCaskey passes on and her kids end up selling, we will be stuck on this ride of lifeless, uninspiring management.

Assuming we still have Lovie and the Tampa 2 next year
I think we should see about bringing Herm Edwards in as our DB’s coach. Yes, I know he was a failure as an HC, but he was a good position coach, he came from this system, and he’s worked with Lovie in the past. When he got booted from KC, he said he would never take an HC job again, but he would be open to being a secondary coach again. If we’re not going to dump the whole staff and start from scratch (which we’re not), we may as well try and improve where we can.

There are two things I'd like to comment on...
1. I have been saying since I joined this site that I wouldn’t mind seeing a different coaching staff in here, but the reality is the players we have here, have been assembled for this system so changing staffs right now really wouldn’t make a difference for this season. If we miss the playoffs, which looks like a distinct possibility, change the whole group and bring in a Head Coach who is flexible enough to build a system where the players he has can fit into it. It would probably have to be some version of the Cover 2 just because we don’t have enough draft picks to make wholesale changes and we’re tied up in some of the contracts of the current roster.
2. I wish the Bears were playing a different team next week. In my opinion, the only way this game can tell us anything is if we lose. That would speak volumes to the inability of the coaching staff to get anything out of the players if we lose at home to a team as bad as the Browns, especially after these last two weeks. A win tells us nothing and I could see where it would cause the morons on our coaching staff to give us their usual B.S. about sticking with their plan. Big SH*T!!! A win against the Browns! If we were playing a more middle of the pack team and we were able to come up with a win, I’d be more willing to write this week off as a bad game.
