Not here to brag about Orton/ diss Cutler

As you can probably tell by my avtar I am a Broncos fan. First off the title is true, I am not here to rip on Cutler or say "we won the trade." I am here to support your Quarterback.

Jay has the ability to be the best QB in the league. He is more physically gifted than Manning or Brady. He lacks concentration at times and relies on his abilities rather than his brains to make the play . Some times that can be disastrous. Other times His decision making, internal clock and all that Jazz are what need to be fixed. The options out there as QB coach are relatively think anymore so I wanted to bring a few of those guys to light as possible hires as OC/HC options next year.

Star-divide

Gary Kubiak- Developed Jake Plummer into a game winner and had him become less error prone while he was in Denver. Cutler lost out on his tutelidge because He took the HC job in Houston. If Houston misses the playoffs there is a chance he will be availible as OC.

Jim Zorn- Chances of him remaining HC in Washington after this season are slim. He could be had as a QB Coach/ OC (No play calling duties). As a QB Coach he can do a pretty good job.

Todd Haley- Another good OC that maybe in over his head in KC.

Mike Shannahan- If you want to get rid of Jerry Angelo and Lovie I think this is your man. He will pander to Jay Cutler but he will help him grow as well.

Norv Turner- Ron's Brother is a little better OC than Ron. He also is in over his head as a HC so he might not mind the demotion.

Keep in mind we took a former HC who was in over his head in Nolan and we have a pretty stellar Defense.

just some thoughts and look forward to playing you guys again. Maybe this time we make more of a game out of it.

Cheers and best wishes on the season!

yeah

Norv has a talented team that is always underachieving and i dont want another one of those. We had a pretty good team earlier this decade under coach jauron and lovie was supposed to take that team and get us over the hump. and he almost did one year and then the past two seasons happened and into this one..

good post btw

Please go back to Mile High and tell your friends to quit coming over here ever week to pat themselves on the back.

Second, Jay Cutler is the least of any problems on this team. Secondary, Defensive Line, and Offensive Line, are much more the reason for our losses. Jay’s picks this last game were mostly meaningless desparation picks / frustration picks. He is not the issue.

fair however

after reading the past few weeks I notice guys that come over here tend to be respectful (not always) and we have a problem with Bronco fans who are not MHR Community members coming and talking trash he same as you have bears fans coming over to talk crap on our site.

I will admit Cutler is not your biggest problem but he is a big detractor from the win. correct me if I am wrong but it is essentially the same o line RB and WR from last year? if so you guys did well with another QB under center however, there is a lot to learn with

I wish it was that easy!

The LG is awful and I am afraid he will never work out. Our perrenial all pro center Kreutz I am afraid has hit the wall this year and has deteriorated badly (not good timing). I could live with an aging Pace at LT if the other 2 were decent. So I am not sure the gelling is going to happen until free agency.

I'm just here for the draft pick

Wouldn’t matter a bit to me how the Bears do, except we still have their #1 draft pick from next year, so it matters to me how they finish up this year. Another ‘bonehead’ move by the Bronco’s front office, keeping the Bears’ 2010 number one pick instead of their own.

Orton is coming into a system that fits him

not that he was bad in Chicago but he was asked to more than he maybe capable of. He was asked to be the playmaker for so long and thats not his game, It’s cutler’s. I say two or three real good drafts separate you from the consistent competitors in the post season. Like wise I think we still need one or two drafts for that too

I agree with that...

Orton is a system that fits his style better. Read the D, find the open underneath and let the receiver work after the catch. I think if you had Cutler still he’d be killing Hoodie Jr., that’s why he tried to Cassel. He knew what he had in Cutler and what he wanted to run his system. Cutler also knew what Hoodie Jr., was going to do and he didn’t want to change his style. I think that trade had to be made, it just so happens that JA came with the best offer.

Is that suppose to be an insult or a compliment?

Because what I’ve seen from the MHR brethen is more like the computer geek that use to wedgies and swirlies in high school, comes back for a 20 year reunion in a limo and a hot model on his arm and wants to show off in front of the jocks who are still in town and work at the factory and the head cheerleader who is now 40 lbs heavier with 3 kids, and she doesn’t the daddy of any of them.

I can’t wait till Orton throws a clunker, I swear to God Almighty, I’m posting a new thread at MHR every hours talking about how Orton can’t handle the pressures, and how the Bears got the better of them, and God help the Broncos if Orton goes down with an ankle injury, KO is KO’d by being made of Glass.

why would you wish a bad game on anyone?

Bad games and injuries shouldn’t be wished on anyone.

As for Kyle Orton, he has been hit pretty hard thus far in the season. In the patriots game there was a roughing the passer call (clearly 2 seconds after he threw the ball) that was blown because Orton didnt jump up and down for the flag. From everything I have seen he is a tough SOB.

Jay has that about him too he can take the hit. You should be happy Sexy Rexy isnt your starter there is a glass player!

No....

I hope Orton does well, I was kinda of saddened when he was traded. I thought, and still do, that he could have been a QB for the Bears, but the Head-Shed here and alot of fans wanted the “Sizzle”. Give me a Big name with a Big Arm. I don’t think Cutler will flourish in Chicago unless the system is changed to meet his style but that’s another story.

I just so tired of hearing from Bronco fans about how we were taken to the cleaners and blah, blah, blah.

i was excited

to see Orton finally get a shot at being the uncontested QB, and a second full year in the system. and i think somewhere in the neighborhood of 3,300 yds, and 15-19TDS and 7 INTs would have been standard.

but even with the records and whatnot, if you told me anyday, now, then, tomorrow that Cutler for Orton and some 1st rounders, i’d still take it, even if we end up 3-13

you know another key thing here

is that Orton was brought in, basically, to operate the same way. short precise timed passes. don’t take huge risks (unless winning) and he has a great running game, upgraded WRs and a massively improved OLine to work behind

but Cutler has completely had to adjust, no Oline, can’t sling it down field, receivers aren’t on the same page.

there are so many ins and outs that explain the struggles by Cutler and succes by Orton so far

True

and it’s way too early to call Jay a bust or anything negative like that. Once a passing system is implemented to cater to his style, including improved line and WR play, the Bears offense should be good. Angelo’s only choice is too be active in free-agency next season based on the lack of quality draft picks, and the fact that the Bears need to fill two spots on the line (RT and G).

Would you care to elaborate what Cutler's style might be ...

…that the system needs to be changed to? I’m not here to rave about KO or rant about JC but the thing that gets me the most is that Bears fans consistently questioned KO’s shortcomings while they seem to give JC a complete pass.

Yes, he is a talented, strong-armed QB who has the potential to be the best but unless you call him out on his mistakes, he isn’t going to improve. Shanny never did it with him in Denver & I’m afraid I don’t see Lovie doing it in Chicago either.

Someone needs to shake him up and tell him that he cannot behave like a petulant child who’s sulking on the sidelines everytime there is a 3 ‘n’ out or an INT. He is the de-facto leader of the offense and he needs to start acting like one. He needs to inspire & encourage his teammates to fight on & not the other way round.

In this regard atleast, he needs to change for the system.

Jay is a gunslinger

that means, imho, that he is going to try and make every throw 20+ yards. That’s fine if you have receivers who can get separation and run crisp routes while doing it. If your WR just runs streaks well you put the safety 20 yrds back to cover with the DB. Gunslingers are good for the oohs and awes but they are also god for the doh’s and duh’s. Jay has sloppy footwork in the pocket, locks on to the hot read, and forces the ball. IF he can work out those demons he will be crazy good and Chicago will have gotten everything we hoped he was in Denver!

3) Next on the Broncos schedule Cleveland Browns on 20 Sep 09 and look who joined the Dawg Pound on 15 Sep, why it was Sadaraine.

4) Next up Oakland Raiders, what decided that trolling there would do no good since they suck so bad?

5) Dallas Cowboys on 4 Oct, and yep 1 Oct Sadaraine joins Blogging the Boys

Anyone else seeing a pattern here?

I would call this the definition of trolling.

its nice to hear others comments on my writing. I do it for the fans and try to keep it real.

It is understandable. With the way everything transpired in Denver upon his leaving we were a bit miffed at him. We shouldnt take it out on the fans though who’s only job is to root for their team. Plenty of us called him out when he was here and its funny that some of them are the ones who praised him here are rubbing it n your face.

Not to enjoyable for the good folks over there. We will try to deter it but I am afraid it is pretty ingrained by the knucklheads over the past 2 weeks.

I liked Orton as a Bear. Love Cutler so far. Appreciate the coaching suggestions.

Orton is solid. Always has been. 9-6 as a rook, but we went back to Grossman for the Super Bowl run anyway. Not going to lose the game for you and Brandon Marshall is awesome. The left handed pass he threw for an interception this pre-season is still one of the worst plays I have ever seen though.

Cutler won me over with his goal line helicopter dive a couple of weeks ago. This entire offense is new and the OL is b.a.d. We did not have an OC capable of running the Bears offense before Jay Cutler and we don’t have one now. No Urlacher (or Tommie Harris) hurts too.

We haven’t had a decent OC for awhile now. Probably too much to ask for, let alone someone creative enough to harness Cutler and get the ball to Hester and Forte. Ron Turner is not that person, btw.

I think Lovie stays as HC.

Jerry Angelo should be worried about Mike Shannahan taking his job, not Lovie.

I like the idea of Norv Turner (former HC), but that’d be a little awkward. Fire one brother, hire another.

Random suggestion Jim Harbaugh.
Just trying to think of possibilites…

by No It All on Oct 26, 2009 11:12 PM CDT reply actions   1 recs

That last suggestion was completely out of the blue, but a great one...

Jim Harbaugh has done some time as a HC at Stanford, he was a very good QB in the NFL for a long time so when he spoke, Cutler would have to listen when it comes to fundamentals, and he has the intensity that this team has been missing for a very long time.

Great suggestion!

In terms of scoring, the Broncos were only average last year, and in some games they were bad. Considering the firepower on that side of the ball, there was no excuse for average.

I think Cutler is still defined primarily by his potential. He can be a hall of famer if someone comes in to kick his butt and instill some discipline. Jeremy Bates was Jay’s buddy and failed to challenge him to make the most of his talent.

As a Broncos fan, Jay’s failure to progress and develop his immense talent drove me nuts… And as easy as it would be to blame Cutler for that, I think Bates (and Shanahan) bear a lot of responsibility.

So no, I don’t think that’s a good idea at all.

yes, but,

Cutler was 7th in TD passes and 2nd in yards… which to me says a lot, about his progress and talent. i agree, he’s prone to taking risks, a la Brett Favre, but those risks also pay off sometimes, a la Brett Favre.

and only the Rams and Lions allowed more points than the Broncos defense last season.

Only the Seahawks, Chiefs and Lions allowed more yardage than the Broncos… so again, the debate about this absolutely hinges upon the defensive woes as well.

Really, it wasn't just about Cutler...

But the offense in general. The offense that couldn’t put up more than 10 on the Raiders at HOME!

Okay, so you’re a fan of stats. What the stats point to is an offense that is great moving the ball between the 20s, but like an impotent Don Juan, couldn’t put it in when it counted.

What stats don’t show is the timing… When after giving up a score, they answered with a turnover or three-and-out, leaving the still-reeling defense with a short field to defend.

For sure, it was an offense that could be brilliant… and that’s what drove us nuts when they turned into a pumpkin just when they were needed to come up big.

A bit off

What is really telling is if you look at a list of the scores in the games:

at Oakland W 41-14
vs. San Diego W 39-38
vs. New Orleans W 34-32
at Kansas City L 19-33
vs. Tampa Bay W 16-13
vs. Jacksonville L 17-24
at New England L 7-41
vs. Miami L 17-26
at Cleveland W 34-30
at Atlanta W 24-20
vs. Oakland L 10-31
at New York Jets W 34-17
vs. Kansas City W 24-17
at Carolina L 10-30
vs. Buffalo L 23-30
at San Diego L 21-52

…Those first three wins held a pretty good chunk of our points for the season. That offense was no where as good as the hype was putting it…

Gotta love the Helicopter.......................

The one Elway pulled in the Super Bowl to beat Green Bay is one reason we love him so much, one thing no one should doubt about Cutler is his competitiveness. Much like a young Elway, he needs a little polish. One thing Denver fans should keep in mind is that Elway had his struggles the first few years. Also until he had the right supporting cast Elway never brought home the Lombardi Trophy either. The QB is a big part of the team but he isn’t the WHOLE team, he’s gotta have that cast of players around him to be Elite.

OCs

You can pick a bum off the street and make him an OC. Anybody can be an OC. Offenses are proactive not reactive. You can come up with any damn offense you want, and it’s the defense that must respond to you accordingly. Finding an OC is not a problem. The McCaskeys running the show is the problem. And that’s not going away ….
