Bears Have Bye; Let's Talk College Football
While we will continue to bring you fresh content during this Bye week that the Bears have, I thought it might be a good idea to talk about college football this week.
Obviously, this week will feature a battle between two unbeatens... #1 Florida traveling to baton Rouge to take on the #4 LSU Tigers. Florida is still saying that Tim Tebow hasn't been cleared to play yet, but no way does No It All's favorite player not play in that game.
Also on the docket is # 21 Nebraska heading to Missouri to take on the #24 ranked Tigers. That game will be Thursday on espn.
After finally getting into the top-25, the Auburn Tigers will head to Fayetteville to play the Arkansas Razorbacks. It's always a tough test to have to travel in the SEC. Can Auburn stay perfect?
Not to stay SEC-oriented, but there is another battle between 2 top-25 teams when Alabama takes on Ole Miss.
3-1 UCONN will take on 4-1 Pitt (coached by you know who), and Duke will try not to suck when they play NC State.
How are your teams doing so far this season? Who's gonna play for the National Championship?

Here's hoping LSU hits a homerun for you!
Seriously, beyond what’s on the MSM, I know very little about college football or it’s players since I just can’t seem to get into it.
I did hear a pretty interesting debate the other day (on some radio station) that’s sort of related. They were discussing the best College football RB tandem to ever play together. The conclusion they came up with was an Oklahoma State Cowboys’ backfield that featured both Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders. How awesome is that?

haha.
I have no allegiance either way. I was just writing “homerun” as a joke on how little I know about college football. How about this…
> For all you LSU fans or Gator Haters, GO TIGERS!!!
> For the Florida fans or LSU Haters, GO GATORS!!!

Smudgers inc got any job openings?
I don’t really need a job, but I’m willing to be a consultant.
Basically I just tell you what to do and you pay me a lot of money. It’s a win win.

Sounds like the consultants at my 9-5!
Except they don’t even tell people what to do, they just make a bunch of money on reputation alone.

Mcfadden and Jones would have to be up there too. They each had over 1,000 yards in 2007.

They did talk about White and Allen!
I think that was their #2. They are all pretty lethal duo’s.
Although, for the life of me, I can’t remember who Fullwood is? Bo Jackson was a beast by himself, I used to love the Bo Knows campaigns.

Nice!
I can see where Bo would overshadow someone. Fullwood appeared to have some quicks and looked like he was difficult to bring down as well. Nice little group Auburn had there in the mid-eighties.
Thanks for the link, even wiki doesn’t do the guy much justice.

SEC fan in AR
Florida/LSU Saturday night in front of 80 thousand drunk coonasses that smell like corndogs. Florida could be in trouble, especially if Tebow is a no go. I’ll still take Florida. Ole Miss and Bama in Oxford. Bama’s D is wayyyy good. Houston Nutt usually chokes in big games at home, I know, I’m a Razorback fan. Bama wins easily. Hogs/Auburn. Tigers ranked and Gus Malzahn comes back to Arkansas. If Ryan Mallett gets the offense to a quick start, then it’s off to the races for the Hogs! How about Iowa/Michigan? I watched Arkansas State give Iowa all it wanted, are they for real? Is Michigan any good? Who’s Northern Illinois playing?

but you can’t argue with how good the teams are. Now my wife is a Gator fan so for her I guess I will pull for the Gators, well that and living in Mississippi I can rub it in the face of just about everyone that’s around who cant spell words like “Dat”, seriously WTF….

I never cared if he was nice or not.
I look at him from clearly an outside perspective having never actually interacted with him. He was a great coach who won 3 national titles and still has the last undefeated season in College basketball history. He also won a gold medal in the Pan Am games. He was/is a legend in the state of Indiana, and for most of my life he was the coach/face of IU. People can say whatever they want about him, it will not change my opinion of him one bit.

No, I won’t throw it in your face… ;-)
Actually I’d trade it all for a dominant football tradition :-(
UK had Adolf Rupp and Bear Bryant respectively… Bear left and Rupp stayed…
http://www.bigbluehistory.net/bb/bearbryant.html
I’m glad UK is at least dominant in one of the two sports…but like I said, if I had my druthers it would be a football school.

Interesting
never thought I’d hear a UK fan say they were willing to trade in basketball prominence for football.
IU football is around for one reason, to genereate revenue for the basketball program. If I had to give up a good maybe great bball team to have a successfull football season I couldn’t do it.

What can I say...
I’m a football guy, raised in a basketball state.
Most UK fans tell me I’m not true blue because of my opinion on the matter…lol, idiots.

IU with Ball State's former coach Bill Lynch
Good times. He’s about as good w/ IU as he was at BSU…his son was still our QB when I was a feshman. Now he’s the WR’s coach.

playoff
Is there any chance of NCAA implementing a playoff in my lifetime?? I have grown so tired of BCS crap and having to watch the pathetic bowl games between the best of the WAC and Mountain West. Not to mention Tennessee has sucked for awhile now. Life goes on, but just not as enjoyable as it could be with a playoff

Ball State stinks
0-5 w/ the new coach including a heartbreaking loss to Toledo last weekend for homecoming, if you missed the highlights you got to see them. Link
Our coach hasn’t won as a head coach since 1986!!!!! But there was 20-some years between coaching jobs and in that time he coached Tom Brady, Brian Greise and Brad Johnson during TB’s Super Bowl run. The team is getting better but it isn’t pretty. I’m traveling to Philadelphia this weekend to photograph Ball State @ Temple (who plays on the Eagle’s Lincoln Financial)
Oh yeah, go Mizzou!!!!

GO BALL STATE!
I don’t care if they haven’t won yet… they’re still MY school! (Plus, my high school team stunk, so I’m used to it!) :p

Yes but,
IU got screwed in the Michigan game. Things would be lookin’ better had the call gone your way/the right way.

Yeah.... I can't talk about that play anymore.
If they could play D, it never would’ve been an issue.

Exactly.
It was a hideous call that didn’t get much national attention…. because it went against IU… if the roles had been switched… It would’ve been BIG news, but isn’t that the way its always been…
by rdent4hof on Oct 8, 2009 10:13 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah pretty much.
IU football is not important on a national level. So that’s controversy is pretty much a non issue, but like you said if roles were reversed it’d be a tradgedy an abomination!!!

I hope not – all the bandwagon Hawkeyes fans are out and about here. And nothing would make me happier than a loss to make them take off their t-shirts.

after all the shit I’ve been talking since the preseason, and now the whole Tebow situation. Doesn’t matter though, cause even if we lose, we’ve still got this

Meh
I’m just glad we didn’t get blown out. Jordan Jefferson is an awesome talent, but still too young an inexperienced to take on a defense like Florida’s.

The silver lining is, LSU still controls it’s own destiny. Win out and LSU goes to the National Championship Game.

But winning out is a very tall order
especially with the Gators standing between them and the NC game.

Yep.
That’s just his inexperience. He looks to scramble way too early, or holds the ball way too long. Then he’ll turn around and make a highlight reel- worthy play.
Good thing is, he’s showing progress with each week.
