The Quotable Bears - Week Ten

Here are my quick thoughts on the game:

1) I know Cutler threw five picks and I'm not making excuses for him. Realistically, a few of them aren't his fault.

2) The University of Northern Iowa (where I currently go) has a better OL than the Chicago Bears. Good God, I'm sick of them.

3) Tommie, kudos for showing up yesterday. Keep that effort up.

4) Our defense also showed up. Against a crappy QB. So congrats, D.

5) Only positive thing about this game: We had five turnovers and still held them to 10 points. Again, see point #4.

6) I'm really glad that I'm going to be out and about in Chicago and not on WCG today listening to everyone call for someone's head.

7) I'm also going to the Bulls game tomorrow. I'm hoping I'll be lucky enough to watch one Chicago team have a good game.

Anyways, let's go.

Star-divide

Lovie on the game:

"It's hard to win a football game when you have five turnovers. We've turned the ball over some games. But the penalties, that hasn't been something that we've done a lot. But they hurt you in the end. They can beat you at the end, and that's what happened. It's disappointing to be sitting here at 4-5 right now. I think we're a better football team than that. But normally whatever your record says is what you are. We have a lot of football left to go. We have another big game coming up. This one is disappointing, this one hurts. But we'll bounce back from it."

Lovie on Cutler:

"An interception is an interception to me. Jay is trying to make a play on every one, but you just have to use a little better judgment on some of them, especially the ones in the end zone. We just can't have it."

Cutler on the game:

"I've got to apologize to the defense. The offense as a whole has to apologize. They played a great game. They kept us in there, even through all the turnovers."

Olsen on the game:

"We had a shot. Our defense played exceptional. Hats off to our defense holding us in the game. They did a great job keeping it close while we were trying to get things rolling."

Ron Turner on Cutler's INT's on the goal line:

"I can help him there and give him a better call. They had it well covered. It was third-and-goal on the 1 1/2-yard line, and I called a play-action pass they had well covered. In that situation, you'd like to throw it away, but I got to give him a better call. We were putting four verticals, getting four guys in the end zone. We were trying to get Greg [Olsen] and Earl [Bennett] in the end zone, get some separation and read the safety. Greg came in, slid back out, and he [Cutler] stepped up in the pocket and tried to go to Greg."

Ron Turner on inserting Omiyale at the end:

"We knew we were going to throw on every down, so that's why we made a switch."

Adewale Ogunleye on the playoffs:

"Is it over? Nope. Arizona last year went to the Super Bowl at 9-7, so you got to find bits and pieces of things to draw on. Right now, it's not good, but you got to stay positive. We got to get ready for a serious, serious offense coming in with Philadelphia next Sunday."

Tommie Harris on the playoffs:

"It's not over yet. The NFL is so funny, with different teams losing that put you back in position (for a playoff berth). I think we'll get another opportunity, and I think we'll seize it. Right now, it's a tough pill to swallow, but we all have to stick together and keep on believing."

Lance Briggs on the D's performance:

"We have to build on this [defensive effort]. Five losses doesn't put you out. We have to build on this and get ready to face the Eagles next Sunday night."

Danieal Manning on the D's performance:

"We got to get those turnovers. For all the good we did tonight, not taking the ball away was the missing piece."

I'm tired of that rationale

by Ogunleye that Arizona made the playoffs last year going 9-7. Yeah, they won their division. Of course they went to the playoffs. 9-7 is not going to win the North. You can’t take what Arizona did last year and say “hey they did it. So can we!!” They were in a terrible division. The Bears are not. This team is delusional if they really think they can make the playoffs. I know you have to say what people want to hear but come on!!

heh..

yeah i was going to say that too..the cards had a terribad division..ours is going to be taken by the vikes and the wild card will need at LEAST a 10-6

by Pretender85 on Nov 13, 2009 1:09 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly

He’s either a knucklehead who doesn’t understand why they even made the playoffs at 9-7 or thinks we are.

The Vikes are going to finish at least 11-5, maybe even 12-4.

So to win the wildcard we’re going to have to have a better record than the second place teams in the East, South, and West, and we lose head to head ties with San Fran, ATL, and Arizona- already.

This loss was absolutely devastating. Basically, we just about need to win out the rest of the way. And that ain’t happening. We could easily lose the next 6 games.

Arizona also plays in the NFC West

Which is the weakest division besides the AFC West with the Raiders and Chargers.

Arizona wasn’t hurt too much by losing a couple of games when they only competition they had was the 49ers. In the NFC North there are three good teams with the only crappy one being the Lions.

Lifelong Arizona Cardinals/Chicago Bears fan.

No band-wagoner fans allowed, pick a team and stick with em, throughout the good and the bad.

Ron Turner

at least takes accountability for his offense. Lovie doesn’t take any

There's no sense of urgency.

If the team has any chance to make the playoffs you’d think they’d realize how bad they effed up not taking this bad SF team and stuffing them into the turf. Yet it doesn’t seem like they care too much.

I think we’ll get another opportunity, and I think we’ll seize it.

You HAD an opportunity and now you’ve lost yet another tiebreaker. Seriously, this is making me gag.

Dreadful.

I could not be any more disappointed.

As a Bear fan...

This makes me sad…
Ditka would have said:
"We let those clowns beat us tonight. We are not a good football team. Our QB threw 5 INTs, did you really think we could win throwing 5 INTs?
Singletary as a player would have said:
“I am embarrassed that we let these guys win! We played hard, but not hard enough. If we are going to make the playoffs, we needed to win that game. We didn’t. So now we are going to have to work that much harder to get there.”
I was at the Cardinals game on Sunday. I yelled my ass off at those guys. I wish Lovie would take the hint I gave him to leave town. the way those guys were playing, I wish someone would have gotten as emotional as I was. I was ready to take over the reigns right there.
I am TIRED of being a wussy team. I am TIRED of waiting for CUTLER’S team to show up. I am TIRED of not getting GOOD free agents. I am TIRED of the McCLASKEY’s.
I am just plain TIRED of losing.

Wale & Tommie

I want some of whatever they are smoking. They’re gonna make me pull out the Jim Mora “Playoffs” quote again.

by boondock_saint812 on Nov 13, 2009 1:19 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

can they really say anything else?

if there’s an admission that they’re prettymuch eliminated, they’ll be labeled as quitters

"...but the devil lives inside this kid, I swear it. It rises out of him in a mist, this baby-faced defiant wrathful version of Pat Kane, escapes his bodily confines to perform satanic miracles all over the offensive zone. The only thing more fearsome than that assist was the keep-in preceding it. The only thing more unholy than his face is his black magic." GMH

No, but a little less delusion would work.

There’s only false hope at this point. Even if the defense plays as well as it did last night, the odds are that Cutler will continue to throw games away. The offensive line and running game aren’t getting any better, and with tough games against Minny (x2), Philly, GB, etc. the chances are slim to none.

so here's what going on in the wildcard

atlanta seems like they will make it, and New York and Philly are fighting along with some other teams
If Philly loses this week to the chargers, they are 5-4 and if we beat them next week we tie them and have a tiebreaker over them, It’s unlikely but it is still possible that we make it to the playoffs
At this point I want Packers, Eagles, Giants and Falcons to lose the most, the Packers are facing the red hot cowboys, Eagles are facing the Chargers, Giants have a bye and Falcons are against Carolina
But we still have to win all of our games but it’s still attainable

by DaHamsta on Nov 13, 2009 2:52 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

still attainable

it will take a miracle

by MEATaylor on Nov 13, 2009 3:01 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Waiter!

I’ll take what these guys are having.

Write this down: The Bears have no realistic chance at all of making the playoffs. Even if they were good, with a good OL, and a good #1 wide receiver, and not decimated by injuries- making the playoffs at this point would take a miracle. No they’re not mathematically eliminated, but none of you are mathematically eliminated from dating a lingerie model either.

Injuries on defense, an ABYSMAL OL, and poor coaching moves = the Bears suck and have no shot at making the playoffs at all.

by Skags on Nov 13, 2009 3:32 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

i agree with skags

if they couldnt beat a team coming in at 4 losses in a row, what makes you feel that they can come in and beat good teams, deeper the season gets?? Im all for being optimistic, and I hope you guys are right and im wrong, but honestly, the lack of preparation, the lack of focus and dsicipline and the lack of skill this team has shown us this season, we have no playoff chances. And quite frankly, Im sort of gald in a way bc that doesnt put us in a position to be completely embarassed, lord knows we cant take anymore of that. What im dreading more than anything, is becoming one of those teams that year in and year out, other quality teams see as a an easy win, or call a game against us a “bye”….

No doom and gloom, just realism.
This one is disappointing, this one hurts. But we’ll bounce back from it.

I highly doubt you or the team will bounce back from this horrible season. Good luck Lovie, you’re going to need it.

This is a scream for help
I can help him there and give him a better call.

Turner can’t help himself. He tries not to call a predictable game, but doesn’t.

Yup.

I don’t really ever question the playcalling, but that play was one of those “hmmmm” moments.

the offensive mess, but he’ll mess the mess that is our defense in the process.

I want a guy like Holmgren

He reeled in Favre, maybe he can do the same for Cutler.

chi till eye die...

ha suraya, moot milat?? but to talk about the bears, I live in chicago but not a bears fan. I’ve been sayin this from when they lost the superbowl. Get rid of the Coach…once he fired Rivera, that was the end of the fairy tail. What you guys need is Jon Gruden to put some ass kicking in these overpaid, underachiving bears. You have the talent in some areas, I mean very very little. Get the right wide recievers and a good line on both ends and you should be ok. Jay Cuttler in my opinion is a great QB, but even Joe Montana would luke like Vinny Testaverde in this team

Three good teams in the NFC North?

“In the NFC North there are three good teams…”

Huh?

by Waylon on Nov 13, 2009 5:50 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

We still have a shot at the playoffs,

but we’d probably have to go 7-0 the rest of the way. Even then 11-5, though, might not cut it.

So yeah. Yesterday’s loss just about put us away.
