Just some observations...
Does anyone else find it troubling that this team plays with no emotion, just like our "beloved" Lovie? Cutler throws 5 picks and all he can do is make sure his socks are on right and put on a ball cap?!? If the receivers are in the wrong spot, get in their face and let them know it. Maybe that would help. If the coaching staff would get in players faces when they commit a stupid penalty or make a bone-headed play, maybe it would help to stop the behavior. Maybe if ownership would let the coaches know that standing on the sidelines with the same emotionless stare is unacceptable. Running the same bubble screen passes and play action passes with no running game is unacceptable. Does Jay have off the field issues, ie drinking? Does anybody besides us true die hard fans care? Lovie doesn't seem to, Turner is an idiot (by the way, it didn't work in his first stint as OC, he did nothing at Illinois, why did they think it would work this time around) We have the infamous coach of the 0-16 Lions helping us get better?!?, Jerry Angelo keeps making jack-ass decisions, the ownership keeps getting rich while we suffer. I cannot remember a time where the team (at least in theory) has so much talent, but no ability to translate it to the field. It falls on everyone, poor coaching, poor preparation, poor personal conduct on and off the field. Good grief, someone hit me with a large, blunt object to put me out of my misery, all the while my money goes to DirecTV so I can keep being tortured by these Bears games. It is like a horrible car crash, I don't want to look, but for some reason, I cannot stop staring at the carnage.

Nice rant
some of these issues aren’t going away for a while

thanks
I appreciate the support and agree that nothing will change anytime soon, but you have to let it out somewhere. This is like therapy. It is just a shame…I introduced my two young sons, ages 8 and 5 to the Bears at birth, much like my father did with me. I saw greatness in Walter Payton growing up. I saw things finally come together for this team and blossom into a Championship in 1985 (one of the greatest things I’ve ever witnessed). My kids love the Bears, but are they ever going to see greatness? Will they ever see the true greatness of the Chicago Bears Franchise? For their sake, i hope so, but I really wonder these days.

Yep
Where is the accountability? How can management, for the 3 years since the Superbowl, continue to support this coaching staff? It’s an organizational problem and it’s not going away, ever!!!

agree
Chad’s rant is legit – and signs of deep problems with this team from top to bottom.

Believe me, I understand exactly where you're coming from, and I know I'll get slammed for this, but...
one thing that I have to say is I don’t think Bears fans can be too tough on ownership for one reason, most of the same people who are calling for them to eat the salaries of JA and Lovie, I’m betting, are the same ones who were screaming to extend the contracts because of the Super Bowl season when Lovie held them up. We can’t have it both ways.
I have never been a Lovie fan and would have happily let him walk when he intimated that he wouldn’t re-sign a few years ago but I remember the outcry of fans who couldn’t live without him and he and JA had to both have long term deals so they could build a team. Well the McCaskeys, who I think are clueless about running this franchise, gave the majority what they asked for and now a large part of that same majority want them to spend another possibly 20 million (11 for Lovie, who knows what for JA, all the assistants, and then the costs for the search of a whole new set of coaches) like it doesn’t matter.
Don’t get me wrong, I want them gone too and nothing would make me happier than for the McCaskeys to clean house, but if I step back and look at it objectively, I don’t think any of has the right to make that demand. To take it a step further, if/when Lovie and his crew do get launched, let’s wait until they actually accomplish something for a few years before we annoint them as the second coming.

I was a Lovie supporter
until these past nine games. I wasn’t sure whether or not he was the answer, but now with a so-called franchise QB in our midsts, I believe a change is absolutely necessary. An offensive mind with balls that will straighten out this mess. Cutler needs to be “reigned in,” and it’s beyond Lovie’s capabilities at this point to get the best out of him. Holmgren might be worth a look when JA is ready to axe the man from Sandy, Texas. Turner hasn’t had the best talent in the world, but its obvious he can’t playcall to Jay’s strengths.

Retort
1.) Give Cutler a break…if he came out and yelled at his WR’s after every bad play he would be demonized as the “whiny prima dona” that the “experts” have labeled him as. The fact that he shows composure after the bad plays shows me maturity and poise. The fact is the OL is horrible and Cutler is running for his life like a gazell getting chased by a pride of hungry lions on almost every play. He could throw them all under the bus, but to the best of my knowledge he has not once “complained” about the OL this season.
2.) Jay’s drinking…not an issue…Kyle “Choir Boy” Orton, could probably drink Cutler and Olson under the table…but no one is attacking Orton.
3.) Marinelli’s impact is very noticable on our DL, The problem is we don’t have elite tallent on the DL so he is making chicken salad out of chicken “stuff”. It is still too early to see what kind of impact he will have on Ganes Adams and Jaron Gilbert, but based on what Rod has done with what we have on the DL, Adams might actually be worthe the 2 rd pick we gave up for him, personally I would have loved to see and elite OL prospect, but that’s why JA runs the team not me.
4.) Talent on paper…well that is just that paper thin. Other than Cutler, Forte, and Hester, who on the offense would you not trade away for an early 2nd round pick…That’s what I thought. Defense has been destroyed by injuries and lack of leadership from Urlacher and Brown on the field. Don’t tell me this is all Lovies fault…if that is the case then Jim Caldwell must be tied for the best coach in the league for the Colts unbeaten start, or maybe it has something to do with Peyton calling the plays, audibling, and being a coach on the field, if the Manning would have had a season ending injury and Jim Sorgi was the Colts starting QB what would their offense look like with rookie WR’s like Collie and Garcon…come on they’d have a worse record than the Bears.
Bottom line…
We need to UPGRADE the OL, this will make most of the details in your rant go away…

You wouldn't trade Wolf or Peterson for a high 2nd round draft choice?
I’d package them both and throw in Lovie’s first born for that.

Retort a retort
okay, perhaps yelling on every play would be bad and make Jay look like a “whiny prima donna”, but at least talking to them after a miscue to get on the same page couldn’t hurt. It really seems to work for Manning, Brady andRoethlesberger. How much composure can you display throwing 5 picks? If he throws or runs for a touchdown last night to win the game then I think you could say he came back with composure, and showed us that he is a true leader, but he didn’t. Yes, I agree the offensive line is just that…offensive, but there are numerous times that the line diverges the pass rush, but Jay gets “happy feet”. He doesn’t step into his throw, and more times than not, 17 at last count, bad things happen, or he ends up taking a sack. By no means am I placing the entire blame on Jay Cutler. I think he is a very talented athlete, and will hopefully turn into the type of quarterback we expect. Unfortunately I think it needs work on all avenues, starting with Jay realizing he needs to communicate with his coaches, his teammates. He apparently has no problem jawing to officials (nice fine), other coaches (the Browns game) and the like. i’m just saying show some emotion or passion for the game and your team, and maybe the team plays a little harder, more disciplined.
Jay’s drinking…glad to hear it. I didn’t know if the rumors were true or not, that’s why I threw it out there. Thank you for making me more aware of the situation.
For me, the verdict is still out on Marinelli. Yes, i’ve heard it a million times that he is a great teacher, and that the line loves him. I think that is great, but that does not always translate in to results. There seems to be too much inconsistency at the D-line. They don’t stay in their assigned gaps well. They over-pursue leaving large holes for opposing running backs. They get blown off the ball. They can’t stuff the line, which allows linemen to get on the linebackers. I agree that we have no true elite talent on the D-line, but I do think they could be more productive and more disciplined with what they have.
As far as talent on paper…I agree that offensively there might not be true elite superstars from top to bottom, but if you looked at the line up before game one, without all of the injuries, did you honestly think we would be 4-5 right now? Especially after starting 3-1. The defense had promise with harris, alex brown, ogunleye, urlacher, briggs, tillman, and at the time vasher.
Bottom line…I agree that the o-line needs to be upgraded, but I truly believe that communication, heart and emotion could overcome some of the rough spots we have. It certainly couldn’t hurt. Who knows if Jay voices himself a bit, perhaps receivers would find an open spot when he scrambles, creating a big play. Perhaps if the defense sees the offense trying to get it together, the defense plays more inspired. If Lovie would show some emotion, then maybe the team says, damn, if Lovie is mad, this must be bad. Maybe they would actually try to fix the problems instead of just repeating them

I like pretty much everything you've said here,
I think what you’re describing is accountability, or lack of it. That, in my opinion, is where Lovie fails. I, personally, would like to see a more demonstrative, emotional coach, but in reality if the players knew they would be in trouble (benched, cut, fined, embarassed, etc.) by their HC anytime they did anything wrong or repeated stupid mistakes, we would see more intensity and consistency.
Regarding Marinelli, I get tired of hearing about “teachers” and “players like him”, who gives a sh*t! They can listen to Marinelli all they want but they know that Lovie is, not only the HC, but the D-coordinator so any real accountability would fall under his domain, which is like parents giving their kids a “timeout”. If I, or the guys I grew up with, only worried about our dads giving us a “timeout” if we got in trouble, most of us would be in jail by this time. No offense to those of you who parent that way, whatever works for you, great, but for young, suddenly wealthy, testosterone driven athletes, I think something more punitive is in needed to control them.

Retort of a Retort of a Retort
I agree that communication, heart, & emotion couldn’t hurt, but I don’t feel that it is the cure-all.
As you stated Cutler is not above voicing his oppinion and getting in someones face(ie. Hocoulli and Ryan), but perhaps Cutler is just trying to protect his young receivers and ineffective O-line by letting the criticism and boos land on his shoulders and not theirs. Yes he is making some bad decisions, but most of those decisions are being made when he is on the fly because if the line play or lack thereof. Yet as stated above he has not once thrown any member of the Oline (cough…Omiyale) or the entire line under the bus, infact after the game last night he applogized to the defense for giving the game away.
If anyone should be jawing at a teamate, it should be someone from the defense yelling at the O-line. They have dealt with numerous injuries and depleated lineups, and were able to hold a very dangerous RB to just over 100 yards with a give-me TD on a short field. How come the O-line who has been together since mini-camp can’t provide more protection to the future of the franchise?
Right now the the achilles heel of this team is the O-line….Period!
An improved o-line it will:
1.) Give Cutler more time to make his decisions so he should be able to find the right one every once in a while. Which will also give the WR’s more time to get open.
2.) Keep the offense moving the chains thus keeping the defense off of the field longer. This will make the defense more agressive when they are on the field and not sucking down oxygen during the 3 downs they are off the field.
3.) Actually open some running lanes for Forte, so that we can have an effective running game, and not force Cutler to throw 50+times in a 10-6 game.

In defense of Cutler's last INT,
He had pressure due to bad blocking and did a good job to avoid a sack on that play.

It Is Sickening To Watch.
It’s like wave after wave of utter disippointment. I think I seen that Bubble Screen to Hester at least 3 times. And everytime it was like 2 Yards. It’s brutal and difficult to watch. I was all exited Thursday, I wanted to believe. I was thinking we are only down by 4. We have 8 seconds left with a Time out,(which we never used), and have time to get 2 plays off. Cutler had already thrown 4 interceptions tying his career high. Another interception was quie improbable and I was on the edge of my seat. Then it happened, again! His worse pass of the Night. I was like……is he Blind? What in the Hell was that? I swore some words I was surprised came out of my mouth using the Lord’s name in vain. I then turned off the TV and didn’t talk to anybody the rest of the Night.

my thoughts of the devin hester experiment at wideout....
horrible…he is overrated and was more potent as a full time return man. But, since “chicago is where old WR go to die”, I guess they felt the need to make the transition. Now he sucks at returning kicks, and running routes…GOOD JOB bears management!
Eat. Sleep. Pray. Watch chicago play.
P.S.
You've obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a shit about what you think.

That’s debatable.
