Cutler Fined $20k For Abusive Conduct

Wcg_thumb_link_medium
Adding insult to injury, the NFL has levied a $20k fine against QB Jay Cutler for his decision to air out frustrations towards referee Ed Hochuli last week.

A day after throwing five interceptions in the Bears' 10-6 loss at San Francisco, Cutler was fined $20,000 by the NFL for abusive conduct toward a game official during last Sunday's 41-21 loss to the Cardinals.

Cutler was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct in the third quarter following a pass attempt to Greg Olsen. He argued with Ed Hochuli because he thought Olsen was held on the play.

The article also mentions that Tommie Harris was fined $7,500 for the punch he threw last week.

$20k for yelling at a ref, but only $7,500 for punching a player.  Alrighty then...

Cutler should have punched the ref

At least get your moneys worth. That is a wonderful message to send. Way to go NFL.

If it wasn't Hochuli, he might have.

Cutler knows better than to mess with the “buff referee.”

Also

The Hoc saved Cutler from a sure loss last year against the Chargers. Possibly he doesn’t get named to the Pro Bowl if they lose that game.

Buff referee...

Cutler is pretty buff himself… I recall him throwing up 225 lbs as many or more than some lineman at the combine. I think Cutler would give 50 something year old Hochuli a run for his money in a Thunderdome match up.

It would have been cheaper

That’s not true!!! WHY THE F*CK WOULD YOU SAY THAT YOU AHOLE!! Ok maybe your right but you gotta give a little something here for it to work. I don’t know what I’m going to do this is the worst thing I’ve ever read, this day could not get any worse. Fine, F*ck it, you’re right.

Thought he was going to get another flag on him last night after the INT that was intended for Kellen Davis (4th INT). I thought it was a pretty obvious defensive passing interference there.

NFL

What a terrible message they are sending!! You can beat the shit out of each other but don’t you dare bad mouth the officials!!!

at least the fine money

goes to a good cause

"...but the devil lives inside this kid, I swear it. It rises out of him in a mist, this baby-faced defiant wrathful version of Pat Kane, escapes his bodily confines to perform satanic miracles all over the offensive zone. The only thing more fearsome than that assist was the keep-in preceding it. The only thing more unholy than his face is his black magic." GMH

Absolutely,

Granted football is a physical sport, but $20,000 for calling Hochuli out on a bad call and $7,500 for Tommie’s blatant punch. Seems like there needs to be some more consistency.

Wonder is Tommie’s getting ejected from the game had anything to do with the lesser dollar amount? Like he had already been punished some? Just guessing.

That is really

stupid isn’t it? I can understand that they don’t want to have players jawing with the officiating crew, but really?

by Virto on Nov 13, 2009 1:41 PM CST reply actions

That is perhaps the stupidest...

thing I have heard in quite a while. Harris was ejected, which almost never happens, and that’s less of a fine. Thank goodness the NFL can’t hear what I’ve said about Hoculi!

lol

the guys all gunslinger, every knnew that coming in, but the prob is thinking he could make our less than medicore WR insto studs, he cant. Just like in denver, he needs guys who can make plays, grab high thrown balls, or into dub or triple coverage, as mush as I want to blame jay, I look at our core of recievers and say shit, atleast we have won 4 games, lol

Eat. Sleep. Pray. Watch chicago play.

P.S.

You've obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a shit about what you think.

Really?

What is this the SEC? If you even think that the Refs had a bad call they fine you for it?

I'm telling you

You should be able to challenge penalties
Use the same system that’s used in regular challenging

by DaHamsta on Nov 13, 2009 2:58 PM CST reply actions

I agree

the only problem is you can’t challenge things that aren’t called.

by Virto on Nov 13, 2009 3:21 PM CST up reply actions

the only problem with that is...

guys would be throwing challenge flags all over the field for crappy calls that happen regularly or “penalties that should’ve been called”. The games would take 6 hours to finish.

by Da Sassage on Nov 13, 2009 4:42 PM CST up reply actions

you only get two flags

doesn’t matter if you are right or wrong

Ahhh,

nothing like a little salt in the wounds…dump that NACL right there and grind it aorund some…now how about a few injuries to round things out perfectly?

Hall

doesn’t even get fined after being an intrical part of that fight with the Falcons.

The message sent by the NFL: It’s better to throw punches than to throw insulting words.

"Those guys were the suckiest bunch of sucks that ever sucked" - Homer defines the Bears '09 season in less than 12 words.

indeed

i hope next time jay feels the need to point out referee incompetence he uses his helmet for some impromptu dental work on the inept zebras instead of verbally reminding them of what wretched creatures they are. nfl has its head way way too far up its own stretched hershey highway sometimes.

by reefermadness3 on Nov 13, 2009 10:23 PM CST up reply actions

the nfl is saying

the feelings of a ref
are more important than the well being of the players
