My breakdown of the 2009 Chicago Bears
***Spoiler*** I have never been more disappointed in a Chicago Bears team./////// Lovie Smith - Oh everything is just peachy, we just need to believe, just keep on trucking..........my patience for Lovie is over.//////// Offense - Ron Turner - When facing 3rd and 8 this guy has more 3 yard plays in his arsenal than any other OC in the league. Did Jon Shoop hand Ron his playbook before he left town. I hate you Ron Turner. Jay Cutler threw 5 ints in his Dink and Dunk system. How many more could he throw airing it out? We have burners in Hester and Knox, let them run. Use your weapons. Ron Turner, maybe you could take something away from my offensive plans, maybe you can't but please, PLEASE, Ron Turner take this one thing away. I hate you. I never want you to call another play for the Bears again. You make me look forward to punting. /////// Jay Cutler - Has the tools. He's from Vanderbilt, he has the brains, he needs to use them. I'm still glad he's a Bear. At times you miss Orton, he was the steady girlfriend who cleaned the house and made your lunch, you look back and remember him fondly. But don't forget there were certain jobs that he couldn't perform....umm back to the point. Jay Cutler is as clutch as McNabb in the last few mins of the Super Bowl.
Matt Forte - Great rookie season, sophomore slump? Or do we have another Anthony Thomas?
Jason Mckie - Provides an occasional 2 yard reception. I can't remember a single block this guy has made.
Chris Williams - Still young, maybe he will blossom. I can recall one hit he has made, that was on Julian Peterson after the whistle in last night's game. He has too many flags called his way.
Roberto Garza - -Solid - He is a decent lineman, not stellar, not horrible.
Olin Kreutz - I love Kreutz, he was an elite center. Still solid, I'm glad we have him on our team.
Frank Omiyale/Beekman - This position is WEAK. We have below average players at this spot.
Orlando Pace - I was excited when we signed him. He clearly is a sub-par player past his prime. I will be excited when we let him go.
Greg Olsen - A play maker. Still hasn't reached his potential, yet still a standout at this position and will be one of the best at this position. Still has room for growth.
Deven Hester/Earl Bennet/Johnny Knox - We should be pleased with this group. This is one of the few positions that have played above expectations. Hester is a play maker, Bennet is a solid position receiver, and Knox is a spark that we were lucky to find in the 5th round.
WR's still lack some fundamentals however, a veteran leader could have helped polish this group.
Defense - DC - Lovie Smith - Lovie is ensuring that his next postion will not only be a HC but is possibly coaching himself out of a DC offer in the future as well. Bob Babich - Something about Bob makes me want to punch him in the face.
Ogunleye/Brown - Having a good season, glad to have them as Bears.
Tommie Harris - Once amazing, a constant force, he was a superstar. We payed him like a superstar. He is now a disappointment verging on an embarrassment.
Adams/Harrison/Idonije - It doesn't really matter who we put here. Average players.
Nick Roach - Has potential, wouldn't be a starter on most teams. Wouldn't be a starter on this team sans injuries. A bright spot considering where he was expected to be on our depth chart.
Hillenmeyer - Average - Obviously not Urlacher, but who is.
Lance Briggs - The one Elite player on our Defense. Briggs is a stud.
Charles Tillman - Above Average, good in coverage, forces turnovers but he occasionally misses tackles due to this.
Zachary Bowman - Potential - we now know why he has so many INTs in pre season, HE WAS PLAYING AGAINST CUTLER.
Al Afalava - Potential - Time will tell
Daniel Manning - He's fast, he's an Athlete - does this carry over to a football player? I have yet to see this. He is a good return man for what it's worth. Let's hear your feedback.
P.S. Mr. Glass or not, I miss Mike Brown. I loved #30.

roach really is not that great…solid backfill yes, but starter? maybe on the raiders.
Bowman will never stay healthy, his knees are shot, but he’s got superstar caliber…it’ll never translate on the field thuogh
Afalava is another Briggs IMO, not the smartest player, but a damn good football player, he understands the fundamentals, but again, i dont think he is the long term answer.
Manning could be the most frustrating of the group…he’s super athletic, but he has for 2 or 3 weeks running now, gotten run over on plays he needs to make tackles on… so i dont think he is an answer either, it sickens me when i see #38 run up to a RB or TE… i know it’s going to convert

First off..
stop comparing Orton to your girlfriend!
Mostly, the characterizations you have are spot on! I will add that Graham is better as a cover corner then Bowman. Graham needs to see more action at CB, perhaps nickel or better yet, at FS.
IMO, the talent isn’t really as much of an issue as it is for any other team. Yes, it would be great to have pro-bowlers at every position, but those things can be addressed this offseason. The biggest problem is that the coaches haven’t coached to their talent, but expected the talent to play to their coaching; Lovie refers to this as “teaching”. I believe there is a good nucleus of talent on this team that is starved for proper coaching strategy and simple, genuine discipline.

I will go ahead and assume you are talking to attila18...

A few comments.
-Forte was overhyped last year. He’s very fundamentally sound, excelling in things like blitz pickup and catching the ball out of the backfield, but as a ballcarrier, he’s really very average. Even during his “great” rookie year, he averaged <4 ypc. He hasn’t declined, the oline has.
-McKie is a solid player, but he rarely sees the field since the Bears use a lot of 2-TE sets (as they should), so he rarely stands out.
-Your comments on the oline are about as insightful as a first-grader’s essay on why his dad is the coolest.
-Babich (not Bobich) has done a solid job this year, given what he’s had to work with.
-If Harris continues to play like he did against the 49ers, he may still end up being worth his contract.
-Ogunleye and Brown have not had good years. Ogunleye is way too inconsistent. And Brown is just not that talented. He works and plays hard, but he’s lost a step or two, and isn’t the great pass rusher that we need from the defensive end spot.
-Hillenmeyer is not average. He is very below-average. The Bears simply cannot run the Cover 2 with him at the mike spot. I think the Bears should try putting Briggs in the middle, with Roach at the will, and Hillenmeyer at the sam.
Babich, Bobich, Balls-ich, who gives a shit. I didn’t say anything about his coaching, I simply want to punch him in the face.
I have to disagree with your idea of moving Briggs to the middle. Moving a great player from his position to a position he doesn’t play, I don’t see this as a smart move. Let’s keep Briggs to the position he stands out. For how this switch has worked out in the past see the return production of Devin Hester.
Also, I’m sorry about how your first grader’s essay turned out. It dosen’t appear he has much material to work with.
agreed with keeping briggs at his position, like moving him to MLB will magically make us an 11-5 team

first grader essay, lol
amusing.
mckie has made some ok blocks when he is in.
and i for one am glad there is no more mike brown on the bears. i loved watching him play over the years but has anyone here watched him play in KC? it’s obvious his time is about up…he is fricking terrible there, being abused by WR’s over and over again on espn highlights. not that our secondary is any good but at least our safeties aren’t being used as cumrags in the way that poor mb is getting used this year. i hope he quits football and comes back to coach up the bears secondary next year or very soon thereafter.
full back
we need a big bruiser in the back-field. even payton had suey, surley we could get a big guy to tandem or blow holes in a d-line to support forte.
I Was Thinking About That
A local High School team here was struggling in the Red Zone. So they took on of their big Defensive linemen and inserted him in the Red Zone Offense as an extra blocker. They then went on to the playoffs this Year after being able to score in Goal line situation. I was thinking maybe we should get Ron Turner tickets to the next game. See if it gets the light bulb turned on inside his head. Unless the light bulb is burned out?
the fridge
mike ditka in his first year as head coach took the team to the niners and we got slaughtered. they ran up the score and also put a big line backer in the backfield on short yardage.he returned the favour the next time they met by playing perry a defensive lineman in front of walter.try stopping that load.
Hester
Looked like the poster child for ‘why in this guy at the Receiver position’ again Thursday Night.
Coaching is the true test of team
There will always be guys who need replaced, getting old, sub-par, (insert reason here)
The difference between good teams and sub-par will be the coaching and player development that turns that decent players into good and good players into superstars.
WTF ?
Disagree with the following players’ ratings :
Olin Kreutz – Can’t f**king snap a ball properly. Rex got blamed for all those fumbled snaps but obviously couldn’t spill the beans on his captain. He’s good when trapping, but he’s a turnstile when staying put. Whiffs too many blocks.
Greg Olsen – may have a bunch of TDs beside his name but has been virtually invisible otherwise. TDs are good, but helping your team for the whole game is important too. Too many dropped passes and has not helped Jay out. Lacks toughness and concentration. Was promoted for no good reason over Clarke. He’s my #3 TE on the Bears.
Tommie Harris – did you see the Niners’ game ? TH isn’t finished, he can play as well as anyone when he wants to. His run stuff on Gore with that swim move was jaw-dropping.
Nick Roach – everybody on the planet has potential. Roach has less than most. He sucks in coverage.

Contd.
Brown/Ogunleye ? Look good and have good games when they play brutal tackles. No speed. Defensive ends are supposed to have speed a la Elvis Dumervil.
Deven Hester/Earl Bennet/Johnny Knox – below average group. No height. EB a solid receiver ? Lacks toughness across the middle. Knox isn’t involved enough to be much of a help, shows plenty of promise though. Hester is promising and has been our best receiver, but he was a serious weapon on special teams and alas, now has been turned into a mere mortal as a receiver
