Jay Cutler Has To Stay Busy During Games- Checking His Sugar Levels
I came across this article, which is another Jay Cutler/ Diabetes piece, and there are some interesting tidbits of info:
Jay has had to drastically change his diet and takes insulin shots daily, but he said the hardest part is monitoring his blood sugar levels during games. He pricks his fingers 10 to 15 times to make sure his levels are ok.
"Immediately after I come off from the first series of a game we check it (blood sugar levels) because that is when I am the most anxious and the most stressed. I usually drop 50 points in five minutes," Jay said.
Cutler's parents also provide some insight, so make sure you check out the original story.

Dane, it's Diabeties.
Also, Boers and Bernstein just had a guy on today who said that Cutler couldn’t see at night cuz of the dreaded ’betes. Quite entertaining, so check out the 1-2 PM podcast of it.
I'M A MAN! I'M 23!
so he couldn't see at night
I haven’t seen or heard the podcast but it’s pretty impressive playing at night
Also can we somehow defer from night games

I just hope
he has contacts or at least checks out his vision once a year.

Nice find
My Friday morning Facebook status update read:
Amishbear…“did not realize one of the major symptoms of Diabetes was the uncontrollable need to continually throw multiple interceptions.”
But now that I think about it, maybe it’s actually the confluence of Diabetes and NIGHT-
TIME that causes that sympotm…
Oh, and Ron Turner.
And a pile of dead slugs for o-linemen.
I'm hoping that his problems at night are just symptoms from the diabetes.

not a doctor
Dr.s i know and trust claim that regardless of how well Cutler maintains and monitors he is at great risk of injury because no matter the care he takes, his body and immune system are simply less able to recover and cope with injury. While I caution them about treating/diagnosing a patient they don’t know, they claim their assertions are universal regarding Diabetes.
I dislocated my finger

What is this supposed to be?
Is this a tear jerk article in which readers are to feel for jay and not bash him just yet? Well i know alot of diabetics who are not as priveldged as jay to check their sugar levels 10 15 times during their work day. Look, i like jay, and i think he will be a decent QB in this league for a long time, and given the right personnel will definitely lead a team (not necessarily the bears) to the big game, but I dont see why the need to bring up his diabetes. Unless you live under a rock, you KNOW jay is diabetic, BIG DEAL…..I just thought this was a “filler” post, since we have been off since last thurs, and I dont like ppl begging for sympathy, whether intentionally or not, cuz this screams “JAY HAS IT ROUGH, TAKE IT EASY ON THE GUY” and I dont buy that for one second.

P.S.
You've obviously mistaken me for someone who gives a shit about what you think.

Oh, don't get your panties in a bunch.
Yes, there are other people with diabetes (including my grandfather) but they aren’t the quarterback for an NFL team. I think it’s interesting to read about how they adapt because of their conditions (for any condition, not just diabetes).
I didn’t take it as a sob story or a ‘feel bad for Jay’ story. I just took it as an interesting take on his situation. Relax! :]

People can learn something
That’s why these articles are posted every once in awhile. Tell me, why is it potentially dangerous for diabetics to drink more than 3 alcoholic beverages per night/day?

10-15 times per game?
That’s quite a bit of monitoring during a game. I guess it’s a bit different for him than me cause I wear an insulin pump and he takes injections. I take off my pump when I exercise, thus stopping my body from getting a steady dose of insulin. Jay probably takes a long-acting insulin (24hr duration), while giving himself injections (short-acting 4-6 hrs) throughout the day for his meals.

It's not bad at all
I’ve never had a problem with them, nor have I had “pain” in my finger-tips from pricking them 4-5 times daily. I guess if you’re doing it 15 times a day, maybe it could be an issue.

I gotcha.
And I think he probably only does it that often on game days anyhow.

well
this might have something to do with cutler not coaching up his receivers on the sideline.

I Can Relax Now.
Jay will check his blood/sugar level 10 – 15 times during Sunday Night’s Game. His vision will maintain a 20/20 into the Fourth Quarter and the Bears hopefully come out victorious~! Thanks for the article Dane.
You think Jay could afford the good meter
They make them to prick your arm or something now so no more “painful finger pokes” (taken from the commercial)
