Here are a couple more logs to throw on the fire...
I know last week I talked about how the playoffs had started and we needed to win out. We felt that way," Smith said. "This week it’s more of a realistic approach to where we are.

This is a quote from Lovie during his Monday press conference. To me this says, “I know I said we were serious last week but we weren’t, so we decided to be REALLY serious this week since we lost”. That statement alone would make me fire him. He has no control of this team and his “half full” approach is getting tired.

Also, and I’m not agreeing with all of them yet, but , just for a second, let’s say that all the experts who are talking about Cutler’s shortcomings (poor mechanics, can’t go through progressions, locks onto his primary receiver, etc.) are correct. They are saying that if you look at films from his time in Denver that it was the case then as well, but Shannahan’s scheme let him get away with it. We’re also hearing about his lack of commitment in preparation as well. So let’s say all of this is accurate, what does that say about the Bear’s management’s ability to scout talent and go through their due dilligence process? Some of us had questions about these same things when the trade was first made, but the elation of the Bears finally making a bold move at the QB position outweighed anything else. If Cutler doesn’t turn things around next season, not necessarily get us to the Super Bowl, because we all know there are a lot of deficiancies on this team that you can’t expect any QB to get us there by himself, but at least throw more TD’s than picks and have some success in the Red Zone, then I think you have to call the trade a bust.

I can't agree with you about the WR's

not saying they’re great, but they aren’t bad. If Cutler would have been on target with some of his throws this past week, we’d all be singing the praises of Knox and Hester. They were open and, for the most part this past week, he did have time but he missed them.

The rest of what you say is true but it still comes back to a combination of lack of talent and/or lack of player development. Anyway you slice it, everything goes back to Lovie and Jerry. They are the failure here.

The WRs have been stopping on their routes since Day 1,They are part of it.

They are an inexperienced bunch that never comes back to the ball when the QB is in trouble. They never attack the ball they just stand and wait all the time.Culter deserves some blame. But the Wrs never consistently figure it out. They need a real #1 someone to take the pressure off Cutler and the other WRs.A security blanket so it the QB throws a bad pass you can count on that WR to catch it everytime. We dont have that guy.Just speed guys who are #2 or #3 maybe #4 guys.

Like I said, they're not great but your original comment was that we had NO WR's

I think Bennett and Knox are excellent, young players who will only get better. Hester has seemed to regressed the last few games, but has made progress throughout the year. Regarding the things you mentioned about coming back to the ball, I’ve seen Knox and Bennett do it, maybe not as consistently as they should, but to me that still comes down to poor coaching/development of the players.

i was watching some old tape of cutler

and the biggest eye-opener was how good brandon marshall is. we don’t have anything close to that.

I agree, but not many teams do

the original thought was that Cutler made Marshall, maybe that’s not exactly true.

Oh boy

does it look like I was wrong on that one as well. Join the club, cause it’s awfully crowded!

Hot, unattainable girl complex.

The Bears and JA got caught up in Cutler’s looks (strong arm, cockiness/swagger), rather than looking at his personality (poor mechanics, judgement, locking-on the primary WRs).

Not just the Bears and JA, unfortunately.

Though, damn, the metaphorical body is slamming. Keeping with it, maybe the personality hasn’t been exposed to cool things yet. Cool things being a new set of coaches.
