Obvious Changes Are Coming; How About This For A Coaching Staff
Head Coach: Bill Cowher/Mike Shanahan
Offensive Coordinator: Mike Martz/Charlie Weis
Quarterbacks Coach: Jeremy Bates
Defensive Coordinator: Not sure; maybe with Urlacher back they'll be an average Defense & the coordinator won't matter.
Any other ideas to toss around? I think Jeremy Bates can be had from USC for the right price. Do you think Chicago will clean house, or do you think certain current coaches are sticking around? Obviously General Manager is a whole other story all by itself.

DAVE TOUB stays no matter what happens.
needs to stay the specials team is never an issue on most days. knox had a fumble yesterday then quickly redeemed himself with a 77yrd run back and the bears offense was constantly starting at midfield.
i have supported lovie alot but aikman said it best “you claim this is a must win to salvage the season and this is how you play”?
so long lovie so long turner
i would like this staff….probably never gonna happen

Butkus for GM

Problem with your slotting
When a HC comes in, they pick their coordinators more often than not.
A Shanahan or Cowher will certainly have enough pull to do this. While you can pencil in a Weiss or Bates, their style or philosophy will often clash (no matter good or bad)
Personally I do not get everyone’s love affair with Cowher and Shanny. Good coaches yes they WERE. With all the young talent, why not go that route and get the new Tomlin instead of a 10 million dollar living on their legacy.
Last problem is price – the Bears will certainly not pay for all these, hell we would be lucky if they paid for one.

The reason why is that we can't afford to take a chance on someone without a proven track
record. We’ve done that for the past 40 years. With all of this PROVEN coaching talent out there, it would be best to restart with someone more experienced. Tomlin is a good coach, but he was installed in a good organization with a good core of talent already on the team. We need to totally rebuild, and we need an experienced eye to do so.
With confirmation that someone high up in the Bears ownership did inquire about Cowher, it may also be confirmation that the McCaskeys would be willing to shell out some cash. I’m OK with that.
I’m not OK with Weiss as OC, however. He has shown in ND that he cannot take talent and turn it into a winner.

Weiss as an OC
would not be the worst thing in the world for the Bears. Although I doubt it will happen, Weiss’ offenses have done well. He took a lifeless Patriots offense with a young QB, Brady, and turned it into a legitimate force. Notre Dame has not been good, but it is due mostly to their lack of playmakers on defense and their yearly inability to stop the run. ND’s offense soared when Weiss was calling the plays.
Again, I don’t think it will happen because with Lovie on his way out, this year or next, they wouldn’t put that kind of money into an OC.

I'm getting more and more confident that they'll bite the bullet and clean house.
Cowher would be the logical move at head coach and I’m sure he’d want to bring in his own people. The question is would Cowher want complete control?

Bates
will never leave USC to be a QB coach, he’s calling plays now and when he does go back to the NFL it’ll be as an OC.

The 3 Chicago teams that have won
Championships in my lifetime (85 Bears, Bulls dynasty, 05 Sox) all did so with Head Coaches or Managers with no previous head coaching or managing experience at the highest level (Phil Jackson was a HC in the CBA). All 3 of these guys won big within 2 or 3 years of taking over. Hiring a Shannahan or Cowher at a huge price might sound good but how many SB winning coaches have won again with another organization? Holmgren got there but didn’t win. Vermeil win in St Louis after getting there with Philly. Gibbs was a dud and Parcells never won a playoff game with Dallas. I don’t think its as easy as writing a big check to a Cowher and letting them take over. They need an entire organizational overhaul starting at the top with Philips and Angelo.

yep, we suck. who better to take over a shitty organization than someone who's done it before
remember, the steelers hadn’t made the playoffs in six years before cowher

Cowher was the coach, not the GM or head
Of player personnel or head of scouting. Would love to have him as coach, but I can’t see the Bears paying his price and who does he bring in for personnel or is he qualified to do that? The Steelers haven’t missed a beat with Tomlin because they are an excellent organization. At one time the Bears did a very good job of this. The 80s teams were filled with first and second round picks as well as lower round gems like Richard Dent. They had great backups like Duerson who developed into a pro bowler when given a shot. The depth of this roster has been exposed and that’s not the head coach’s fault. And no picks in the first 2 rounds next year. Gaines Adams? Really?
