Ask Revenge of the Birds
Hello Windy City, Andrew from Revenge Of The Birds stopping by to see if you have any questions about the Arizona Cardinals. Yes, we are an up and down team. Why? I don't know. It could be the youth a key positions, or it could be that this team is not mentally strong enough to handle national praise. With that being said, the Cardinals are coming off an embarrassing loss to the Panthers, and are facing the critics again. The Cardinals may use the "no respect card" this Sunday, so watch for a different looking team then last week. But what do I know? They might come out an prove me wrong. Ask any questions and I'll stop by to answer them whenever possible. And if anybody here could do the same at our site, that would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'll help answer some questions too.
Most of the people here probably know that I’m a lifelong fan of the Bears and the Cardinals, so I know enough about both teams this year to give another point of view.

Jeez I bet you're torn.
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

Yeah, its tough.
Since I live in Arizona I have to root for the Cardinals. But I’ll still cheer for the Bears if they make some good plays.

You don't HAVE to cheer for the Cards just because you live in Arizona.
I live in Indiana, grew up a Bears fan and I LOATHE the Colts.

Yup.
I grew up in Louisiana, and was a Bears fan from the start.
I didn’t really start following the Saints until high school. People back home get crazy looks on their faces when they see be donning my Bears garb.
I still hope the Saints do well, and am proud that they have bounced back from the storm the way they have. But am I a Saints fan? Nah.

The Saints are scary good
But not in a snooty Patriots/Colts way. If we don’t make the playoffs I will be in the tank for the Saints.

Pass rush
So in a nutshell what went wrong last week against the Panthers? Also, I believe the Bears pass rush is a major key to victory, whether or not its effective. What’s the best way to attack the Cards O-line?
Fantasy ?- when will we see Beanie Wells take over starting duties?

Against the Panthers, just about everything went wrong. The Cardinals were tackling well before that, but they could not hold on to the Panthers running backs, and they were not doing a good job containing them when they were stuffed so they could just bounce out to the side and get big runs.
And Warner kept having passes deflected, which was a factor with two of his interceptions, one of them was from Peppers beating the O-Lineman, and the other two were overthrowing receivers which are the only two I would pin on Warner. Warner does seem like he is having a tougher time throwing deep, but he is still amazingly accurate on short and intermediate passes.
With the Pass Rush, any quick defensive end can beat Gandy and Levi, the Cardinals have a lot of the same O-Line problems that the Bears have, but because of Warners immobility he can’t keep plays alive like Cutler can.
As for Beanie, he is running very well, but I think he will keep sharing carries with Hightower, and it looks like the other two running backs [LaRod Stephens-Howling and Jason Wright] are going to get some carries too]. Beanies only problem right now is fumbling, but Hightower has coughed it up too. Beanie is getting used to the offense and as the season goes on he should get the ball more often.

Poor tackling
DeAngelo Williams is one of the best running backs at breaking tackles and he’s always given us problems. I wasn’t surprised. He and Stewart are the best duo in the league if you ask me.
Outside pressure is the best. Quick ends have the best success. The best way possible is to rush 4 and drop the rest in coverage. That’s been the most effective against Warner.
Beanie probably won’t get the bulk of carries for quite a while. We’ll have to see him go a couple games without fumbling first. If you have Wells, I’d only start him when we play the crappy teams(Rams, Seahawks, Lions).
What? I didn't break it, I was just testing its durability, and then I placed it in the woods becuase it's made out of wood and I just thought he should be with his family.

But wasn't Arizona rank near the top in rush defense before the game last week?
Now I know the Panthers O-line is an up and coming unit, but they kind of man-helded your Defense last week, didn’t they? Also Good to Peppers getting back to his normal output last week. Was that a fluke or is he on the mends to being a star again?
That’s not true!!! WHY THE F*CK WOULD YOU SAY THAT YOU AHOLE!! Ok maybe your right but you gotta give a little something here for it to work. I don’t know what I’m going to do this is the worst thing I’ve ever read, this day could not get any worse. Fine, F*ck it, you’re right.

Yes, our defense was ranked 1st in the league before last week.
Not only did we have poor tackling, our players were missing assignment. Adrian Wilson and a couple of the linebackers kept covering the wrong gaps and that allowed Williams to break out one of the long runs he had in that game. Our defense just did not show up to play in that game. I would not expect them to play that poorly again though, at least not until we win a few games in a row and ask for respect again…
Seems like Peppers is back after he got called out by John Beason. He has had 6 sacks in his last four games, force 1 fumble and, had an interception. I don’t know about the other games but he was getting constant pressure on Warner too.

Before last week, we hadn't faced a team that primarily focused on the run
The Panthers ran the ball 44 times, which most of the time is unheard of. Peppers looks fine to me.

Weather
I am hoping for awful weather on Sunday because I think it would give an advantage to the Bears. It doesn’t look like it will be bad at all, but what are your thoughts on how the Cards can hold up in cold or wet weather conditions?
by brands735 on Nov 4, 2009 6:02 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
If it's snow we're screwed
The snow in last year’s Patriots game proved to be the most effective. I think this team can handle rain or cold weather just fine. They’ve become a better road team this year and coming off a bad loss, I’d expect them to be fired up.

Coaching
How has the turnover in the Cards coaching ranks effected the team so far?

Well there are positives and negatives
The offense has had a big drop off. Whisenhunt has been conservative and they look out of sync. New defensive coordinator Bill Davis has improved the defense, blitzing more and getting back to basics. Before last week they were looking great.

does it look like he’ll play or will he rest this week? no, don’t have him in fantasy…just curious. Thanks

Honestly, I would prefer it if he took the week off so he could get better.
But if he thinks he is able to play, he will play. I think he will be out there, even if he could make his injury worse.

how is your special teams
Since I want a TD for Hester
by DaHamsta on Nov 5, 2009 5:11 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Our coverage has been pretty good this year.
We have not allowed a special teams td yet, and we have held opposing kick returners to 21.4 yards per return and punt returners 11.4 yards per return. Those numbers are also a little skewed because of Houston, they got a lot of those yards we gave up in one game. Take the Houston game out and the kick returns go down to about 19.8 and punt returns go down to 8.09.

yes
but as I remember we embarresed Detroit who had a pretty good special teams unit before we destroyed them

I thought that Detroit had bad coverage teams?
I think I remember going on their SBN blog and seeing something about them saying their kick/punt coverage sucked.

Special teams has been a solid bright spot
Rackers is good at bouncing the kicks to the outside and buying time for the coverage unit. Graham can land a lot of punts in the 20.

Where should the Bears attack the field when on offense???
So I can go and tweet at Cutler and let him know.

The Cardinals have been beat a lot by some of the shorter passes.
They try to defend the long ball, but they just wind up giving up chunks from short passes like in the game against Houston.
I don’t think that Forte will be able to run against the Cardinals Defensive Line that played well in every game except for the Carolina game. Its a game where Cutler will have to do most of the work.
