Lovie Smith iz Stoopid and Fire Him We Should
Lovie Smith obviously needs to be fired. Just look at the Bears performance today. Getting shellacked by the Cardinals is completely unacceptable, and it is completely Lovie Smith's fault. It has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that Kurt Warner, Larry Fitzgerald and co. from one of the most dangerous offenses in the NFL. And it's also obviously Smith's fault that our highest-paid d-lineman decided to get himself ejected by punching another player in the face. It's also Smith's fault that two of our starting linebackers, including the longtime face of our franchise ended up with season-ending injuries. Ditto for the fact that half of our starting secondary had to leave the game early due to injuries.
Oh, and before I forget, Jerry Angelo is an idiot too. What was he thinking giving so much money to guys like Harris, Urlacher, and Vasher? He should have foreseen that they would have devastating injuries/significantly decline. He obviously should have cut those guys loose right in the middle of their prime. That's what every Bears fan I know was suggesting 2-3 years ago. And Orlando Pace? C'mon, signing a 7-time pro-bowler is obviously a terrible idea. And I can't begin to start on Angelo's failure to upgrade the receiving core. TO, Marvin Harrison, and Matt Jones were all out there, and we didn't sign a single one of those elite receivers. With those guys, we'd be beating Arizona for sure. And then of course, there's the Cutler trade. What was Angelo thinking trading proven winner in Kyle Orton for a bum with a losing record (Cutler)? If we'd kept Orton, we'd be 6-1 right now, obviously.

While I appreciate good snark..
it does not change my opinion that Lovie’s time is up. Done. Over. Bye Bye.
This game did not bring me to that conclusion, btw.

Marvin Harrison... c'mon,
I guess that’s why there are so many teams trying to sign him.

we have a chance to get a very fine coach
Lovie or no, if you have a chance to get Mike Shanahan, you do it.
by Sound_Automatic on Nov 8, 2009 4:07 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
OMG YOU ARE SO RIGHT!
Shanahan will fix our defense for sure. Yup, nevermind the fact that he’s mostly known for his work on the offensive side of the ball, he’s obviously the panacea we’ve been looking for.
by Poloplaya14 on Nov 8, 2009 4:14 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Wrong.
Remember the 2008 broncos defense??? Shanahan was responsible for that defense. Simply horrendous.
Shanny is a great coach, but one thing he will not do is fix your defense. He struck out four different times on drafting a defensive line and he absolutely cannot pick a good free agent. Dre Bly, Marlon McCree, etc.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

this is so silly
the Bengals and Cardinals are NOT the Saints and Colts. We allowed two teams to score 40 pts. But here is the thing – they could have scored 50! Or 60! Both teams started showing us mercy by the beginning of the 2nd half. You can’t ignore those type of faults. The Bears are a mess right now. If it wasn’t for playing the Seahawks, Lions and Browns, our record would look much worse. 3 of the worst 7 teams in football

I cant stand our COACHES.
I really dont like anything about our coaching staff. From the smaller and supposedly faster defensive personelle to the Tampa 2. The scheme, the coaching, and the personelle really suck. It starts with the coaching. I want really big guys that are athletic in the middle of our D-line with Alex Brown on one side and someone similar on the other side. Aguneleye has never done anything to make what he is paid since he has been here and I have never been a fan. Eventhough we are thin at linebacker and our secodary is young and not very good, our coaching staff has done a poor job at simply coaching them and that sucks. Our team is a mirror image of our coaching staff. We have alot of talent on this team, even with injuries, that is not even coming close to reaching their potential. No passion, no drive, no success. LOVIE, THIS IS YOUR JOB TO GET YOUR TEAM TO PLAY ABOVE THEIR POTENTIAL WITH AS FEW MISTAKES AS POSSIBLE, NOT EVEN CLOSE GUY. Your defense sucks, your offensive coordinator sucks, and you suck. Please get Cower or Gruden on the phone now. Disgruntled Bears fan.
Watch me pull a hat outta this rabbit.

This is ridiculous.
If we’d kept Orton, we’d be 6-1 right now, obviously.
You can’t call that. The Broncos are a completely different team, what makes you think that he would have done so much better than last year, staying in the same system? The Broncos play to his strengths, which is why he’s doing well. But this has been explained before, numerous times, so I’m not going to continue. I’m sorry that you’re so upset, hopefully you’ll feel better (and not write posts with such ridiculous titles – why did I even look?) soon.

the problem with lovie
is he’s sticking to a scheme which continually gets shredded. the cover 2 and any variant that includes playing soft coverage doesn’t work if your front 4 don’t generate a pass rush. our front four don’t generate a pass rush, and haven’t done so since the super bowl run. also, if you blitz as often as we do, you absolutely need to make your blitzes work – watch pittsburgh, philly, hell even cleveland last week…their blitzes confuse offenses. our blitzes are entirely predictable and we often get burned on them. that’s on lovie as well. finally, he simply doesn’t emphasize tackling as much as he needs to. stripping the ball is important, but you need to wrap up as well…we have a real problem with that, and that comes from poor coaching.

If you think that if Marvin, T.O., or Matt Jones were on our team
we would have beaten the Cardinals then you are an idiot, Poloplaya. Lovie and Co. do need to get the fudge out but you lost me with that comment. Our offense didn’t lose this game.

I agree
I don’t see how Matt Jones or Marvin Harrison could have helped the Bears as the offense wasn’t the problem today. The defense simply could not stop the Cardinals.

People who don’t care don’t respond, and people who do care do respond. Does that make sense Bronco fans trying to validate the trade?

Lovie needs to go...
and the sooner the better. I do not believe he can regain the respect of the players. This team has quit on Lovie and co. Yes, the Bears need some better line play and talent at a few positions, but they should be much more competitive even with the injuries. It’s not just a few things that need to go better for the Bears to win games, but a wholesale change in the coaching. The clock is ticking!

Is Gruden a great coach?
How bout Barry Switzer?
Or let me think Mike Martz?
Funny how when a team is built up, then a new coach comes in we proclaim him the shit. Lovie’s team has declined every year, so did Gruden’s, and Martz. Lovie scheme works only when you have exactly the right personnel to pull it off. We do not. Martz couldn’t figure out why the Rams O lost its steam when he took over, Gruden took over a team Dungy built up. THere’s other examples, like when Parcells built Dallas, Jets, Patriots, Giants. Look at the Steelers. Thats a team built around Cowers philosophy. Other coaches get the glory wrongly. Lovie’s gotten too much credit for the Super Bowl showing. How many KO/PR did hester have to save the Bears ass. Look if we can fire Angelidiot, and hire Cower to do what ever we’ll be better off in the future, and if you disagree your a fool.

The art of sarcasm is lost on many. This post is "stoopid" and should be fired
Defensive much? The game was 15 minutes old at the time you posted this, and no one (not at that time, not now) had posted a fanpost/shot arguing Lovie had to go as a result of the game. Into that void steps the author of this post, to preemptively assume that whoever might later express such an opinion would be doing so for frivolous reasons only. Great. Terrific.
Look – if Lovie’s team played defense half as good as you, maybe people wouldn’t be calling for him to go. But the obvious fact is that the Defense has not been the same since 2006. That’s going on three years now without a real defense for a team supposedly built around the D and running game (not coincidentally, the three years after Lovie had a true Bear, Ron Rivera, jettisoned because of petty jealousies, and installed a completely overmatched personal friend, Babich, in his place).
Yeah, give credit to Kurt Warner and co. — no one denies they’re good. But you’re out of your mind if you think 40 points is an acceptable amount for a professional defense to give up to ANYONE. This team has lots of problems, but it starts with the coaches not holding their players accountable. The Tommie Harris suspension two weeks ago was mis-reported by Lovie and co. as a knee injury because they didn’t want Harris publicly exposed for his immaturity. Well, you saw today what happens when coaches emphasize their players feelings over genuinely holding them accountable for their actions. I’m sure we’ll get another mealy-mouthed comment tomorrow about how Tommie learned his lesson and it won’t happen again, etc.
Know when it won’t happen again? When we have a real coach — a Cowher/Tomlin kind of guy — who players know won’t put up with that kind of b.s.

I assume that since your post was a reply to....
…to Orval’s post, that your ‘can no one spot snarkiness’ post is accusing him of missing the point of the OP (which would be hard, as poloplaya clearly subscribes to the ‘blunt object’ school of sarcasm, but that’s not the issue), implying he’s taking playa’s (attempted) sarcasm at face value. Clearly, this isn’t the case, as he recognizes poloplaya’s post for the apologist drivel it is.
Now, if i’m mistaken and your ‘can nobody detect snarkiness post’ is directed at the folks taking poloplaya’s post at face value, well then your use of the reply function is probably contributing to the confusion

Slime to none
Lovie Smith will not be fired. The McCaskey’s are not going to eat the remaining cash left on Lovie’s contract. As far as hiring Shanahan or Cower, the McCaskey’s aren’t going to break the bank for them because both will want total control of the franchise.

I agree, but consider this
Cut Harris before his next escalator kicks in. That’s the $5mm per year they need to eat Lovie’s contract.
Then start Izzie Idonije (or Marcus Harrison if he beats him out), and at least you’ll have a maximum effort guy playing the position.
