Around SBN: How Not To Criticize Tom Brady For The Patriots' Loss

Bears Updates: Briggs, Hester, and June

Wcg_thumb_injury_medium
While feathers are flying all over the internet (including here at WCG) about the most recent loss for the Chicago Bears, we thought it might be a good idea to poke around and see if there are any updates from Halas Hall today.

First, it looks like Devin Hester will still be sidelined when practice resumes Wednesday, but it is unclear how serious his calf injury really is.  More to come on this as we get it.

Also, with Lance Briggs back, the Bears released Cato June, the linebacker whom they had only recently signed.  To take the place of June on the 53 man roster, the Bears promoted OT James Marten from the practice squad.

Was the only reason

we signed Cato June was to take Briggs spot? I am really just asking. I think it’s odd we signed him and then released him so soon…?

Cato

Must just not have impressed.

The way I read into it

was that the team didn’t know how bad Briggs’ injury was, and didn’t want to spend any significant time with just 3 LBs.

And like sabbath said, had he come in and made any sort of impression, we might have at least kept him on the practice squad, considering the article linked above mentioned that Marten was going to be promoted anyhow.

Could we put

someone like Cato June on the practice squad? I really don’t know the rules regarding who can be put on the practice squad, I would have thought that someone like Cato would be ineligible.

Sorry,

Was thinking two different thoughts at once, and what came out was a brain fart.

June, of course, would not be eligible for the PS.

No apoligies neccesary,

In fact I did something similar just below.

Also,

who’s spot on the roster is James Marten taking? Seems maybe, that if we are bringing Marten up, then no more Orlando Pace?

That's Lance's spot,

I think I had myself a little short in the roster count because the Bears waited so long to put Pisa on IR

Our original 53 included both Pisa and Wolfe.

But, they put Pisa on the IR to make way for June. June is gone, so Marten is in.

And Kahlil Bell took Wolfe’s spot.

Lance never lost his roster spot

He was just inactive. They cut June from the 53-man roster and added Marten

I don't know much about Marten

…is he a real project for us, or is he just a guy they’re pinning hopes on that he can’t possibly live up to?

I don't know him too much either...

he blocked for Matt Ryan at BC, and is very tall. That’s all I know.

I read somewhere that Angelo was very high on Marten.

Then again this is the same guy that brought in Omiyale and Pace.

Lovie projects...

that Marten will compete for time at FS with Afalava. While Marten lacks “top end speed” he does have a good grasp of the Tampa2 defense. It may take a few years of training, but Lovie has hope! ;>P
