Key Player to keep an eye on: Johnny Knox
via a.espncdn.com
The Bears suck, so for now on for the weekly Key player to keep an eye on I am going to focus on players to look forward to for the remaining three games of the season and next. This week player is Johnny Knox, who is coming off one of hisbest performances of the season at the receiver positon. I think it is time for the coaches to insert Knox in the starting lineup, because the ceiling is too high on this guy. Yes I use to think, and still think that Hester would be a good #2 receiver. It's just now I think that Knox has the potential to be a better #2 receiver. Knox showed last Sunday and all season that he is a threat to make big plays down field with his speed, and pass catching ability. He's also showed from time to time that he is willing to go over the middle with the quick slants and make plays. The Bears need a good #1 receiver, rather that's Devin Aromashadu or a FA addition remains to be seen. The Bears have to find a true #1 next year for Johnny Knox and this passing offense to flourish.

DA
has ONE good REAL NFL GAME and he is our no1 WR? wtf seriously. Hester has done as much as he has as a wr this year. why cant knox be a no1 project? hmmmm he has the skills they arent as polished as a veteran but he is a rookie after all and a 5th round steal at that.
Bring back our honey bears...sick and tired of hearing about the dallas cowboy cheerleaders and the bars they go work at when they quit. cold weather + cheerleaders in skimpy outfits = lots of fun
Hester has the good numbers, but his instincts are crap.
I think he would be much better as a slot receiver, than on the outside
Let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Aromashadu and Knox are both playing well, but I still doubt either of them will ever be a true #1 reciever. DA was a 7th round pick, and Knox was a 5th round pick, so they still have a lot to prove. TJ Houshmenzadeh(spelling) was a 7th round pick, but it took him a while to develop into a #1.
receiver's won't matter...
…if Cutler is spread eagled by a defensive tackle and doesn’t have time to throw the long ball. Having said that, I totally agree that Knox seems to be a good fast receiver that bears developing.

I don't believe I've seen Cutler "spread eagle" because of a defensive tackle this season.
That’s a funny way of describing it.

I'd like to see what Knox and D.A. can do next year.

Knox is a beast
He will be a great WR for years to come.
You have to hate losing more than you love winning.
Come on, man.
Knox hasn’t even played a full season yet. Your statement wouldn’t be so crazy if he was a 1st round pick, but he isn’t. He was a 5th round pick. Give me one more good season out of him before I consider him “for real.” Remember Mark Anderson’s rookie year? Yeah, it was a fluke. Knox could turn out to be the offensive version of Anderson. Until then, I’m not sold on him yet.
Good point,
It is impossible to rate a player without a sustained body of work from which to look at.
I agree with you but
what does it matter what round he was picked in? Being a first round pick would mean nothing to whether or not he was to be a great WR for years to come or not. If anything being a 5th round pick is way more impressive and says much more to his talent than anything. Besides, if he didn’t go to Abilene-Christian he wouldn’t have gone in such a late round.

I know draft position doesn't really matter.
But if scouts thought he had great potential, he would have gone earlier. I know he went to Abilene Christian, but so did Danieal Manning, who got drafted in the 2nd round.
My point is, he is just months removed from being a late draft pick. So let’s all just wait until next year to determine his potential.

DA has hands, size, and he knows the game.Sadly Hester only has one of those traits…..I remember in the beginning of the year everyone said that “Knox was something”.Then some ppl said (omg he is a rookie you don’t know, you can’t tell). My point is we should give DA a chance to be a number 1 WR.Bc he has the traits and we shouldn’t say if he is or not a number 1 untill we find out with his play on the field.Lets face it he had a TD and he was Cutlers favorite target against the defensive player of the ear
Looks like Knox will draw Foxorth. Foxworth can hang with most receivers but is a weak tackler. Knox’s size is good for Foxy. Landry will be shadowing the 2 of them. Put Hester on the other side and Frank Walker is in trouble. Frank is fast enough but likes to grab. I see the interference calls with this match up. We need Ed Reed in this game.
I still think it will come down to you TE play. You should have a decent time there. We are either too young or too slow with LB pass coverage. When Ray is in the zone we are at our worst with both pressure and covering receivers. It’s a wasted D play for with Ray dropping back. He’s too slow.
" True # 1 Rcvr.????
I keep hearing this all of the time. Please give me an exact deffinition of a true # 1 and then find me an available one thats really worth the $$$ that you would have to spend for him. Any of your # 1s that might become available wouldn’t be worth a royal rats arse. They are available for a reason and that isn’t because they are doing their job. E.T.
A true #1 makes the tough catches, go up and fights for the ball, has the speed to make plays downfield. A #1 receiver is suppose to put fear in the hearts of opposing defensive cordinators, because that cordinator knows he has the ability to have an effect on the game even without touching the ball (Meaning others contributing because of the focus on the #1). The Bears don’t have that player on this team, but in my opinion Cutler can win with this group he has now if the coaching staff use them correctly.
The Bears need a #1, but like you said those guys don’t hit the market very often. The best way to get your #1 receiver is in the draft.
A “true #1” usually has some or all of those qualities, but I think it has more to do with the caliber of play. I don’t know that there is a concrete set of stats or figures that says “this guy is a true #1 and that guys isn’t,” but I would assume that a “true #1” could be a #1 WR on just about any team (or at least the majority of teams), even if not a #1 on his current team. So the Bears do have a #1 receiver in Hester, but not a “true #1,” because I wouldn’t expect him to be at WR1 in a prototypical NFL team.
