Skins Executive Resigns: What this means to Da Bears

Link to article.

Vinny Cerrato, Daniel Snyder's right-hand man has resigned.  Bears fans may be asking, "Who cares?"

Well, my friends, we should care because Vinny was the Executive V.P. of Football Operations and this (in my un-expert opinion) could be the first part in opening the door for a football czar type coach (either Holmgren or Shanahan). And considering how the NFL does business now, we could have possible confirmation that there are no big changes on the way for our beloved Bears.

How can that speculation be made?  Look at the Miami Dolphins and Bill Parcells...high level changes are starting to be made during the season, and this could be sign that we are stuck with Jerry and Lovie for one more year.

Bottom line:  this offseason expect Turner to take the fall for a crappy year, and don't expect to see a new head coach leading your Chicago Bears.  Usually, the tired out "cheap" moniker is unfair for the Bears, but not in the case where millions would be paid to a guy who will do nothing with our organization, it may be accurate.

This is also a clear sign that Jim Zorn is gone.  How about a former great QB molding Jay in some way? OC?  QB Coach...just some things to think about on a cold December morning

I'm confused

How does this mean anything you stated? How can Cerrato bring in a “czar type coach”? Unless I’ve been dead for the past year, the McCaskeys still own the Bears correct? I doubt Cerrato would have the same bank account with the Bears that he had with the Redskins!!

by McRipper on Dec 17, 2009 10:06 AM CST reply actions

He is just trying to make the point

that if the bears were going to make high level changes they would do it during the season like the redskins and dolphins(last year) did. I don’t think he is right, but that is just my opinion.

by Jhitt81 on Dec 17, 2009 10:24 AM CST up reply actions

OK, my point was

I think that many people wait for a change in management in the off-season…now it seems that things are changing during the season like with Parcells…don’t be surprised to see the skins sign Holmgren or Shanahan before the season is over….

Cerrato can’t bring in anyone-he resigned. Snyder, the owner on the other hand will bring in the Czar type coach will take over Cerrato’s duties.

And I certainly didn’t mean to imply that Cerrato would come to the Bears. Sorry for the confusion, I wrote this early in the morning (for me).

As a sidebar…if the Skins don’t get Shanahan look for him to go to Dallas. For all those who were hoping to re-unite Cutler and Shanny…it ain’t happening.

Ah, got ya!!

Sorry!! I completely misunderstood that!!

by McRipper on Dec 17, 2009 10:36 AM CST up reply actions

Wow,

Shanny in Dallas, somehow the thought seems like sacrilege to me. Not saying it couldn’t happen, but I have a hard time imagining Jerry and Shanny working well together for an extended period of time. Not sure Dallas, or the state of Texas for that matter, is big enough for both their personalities working together. IMHO

The Redskins just hired former Bucs GM Bruce Allen

So… they’re not going to have a Czar coach.

Yeah, just saw that

I still don’t think we’re in the market for a new GM or Coach…

I can’t see the McCaskeys eating Lovie’s contract

by BigAppleBearsFan on Dec 17, 2009 10:53 AM CST up reply actions

This might be one of the few times in McCaskey history

where they would do such a thing.

With what’s going on with the CBA labor talks… if the Cowboys and Redskins are allowed to open up their check books even more, the Bears aren’t going to be able to keep up with the market those teams set in free agency.

So, they’re going to have to move forward with supreme drafting and supreme coaching to compete for a championship in the new setting. This offseason is one of the few opportunities where SB winning head coaches are lined up for jobs. If you’re going to make a change, you do it now, when the opportunity is there.

I hope you're right

I like Lovie, I think he’s a really good guy…loyal to a fault. But he really should just focus on being a DC for now…makes me sad, I really enjoyed 2006, but we’ve fallen a long way from there and look our D looks really old-not mention our lines…I don’t know what to say

Interesting point about,

about the market changing. Without the prophet sharing the market really is going to change a lot. So much for any given Sunday. I think we will inevitably end up going back to the days when there were football dynasties that lasted decades. Something like the 49ers in the 80’s.

It is a shame that the McCaskey’s aren’t truly football people. With the Chicago market and just having the one team here, I think we really are the largest market for any football team. Too bad the McCaskeys don’t take advantage of that. If it was managed better, this team would be in serious contention to be one of those dynasties under the new market scenarios.

They will never be able to compete with Dallas and Washington

on a revenue basis… because they don’t own their own stadium.

I can see that,

I still think that the McCaskeys aren’t maximizing the potential that is the Bears franchise. The Bears are one of the most established and recognized brands in the NFL. They might not be able to get as much revenue as Dallas but they should still be able to be towards the top of the list. They’re certainly sitting prettier than teams like Buffalo, Jacksonville, and even the Vikings whom will all be hurt with the loss of prophet sharing.

by Fridge72 on Dec 17, 2009 1:51 PM CST up reply actions

An argument could definitely be made against owning one.

Location, location, location, I’m not sure that the Bears having their own stadium would make them more profitable either. Granted I have not seen any market research on this but, stadiums are pretty expensive and when they are empty they don’t make you any money. If the Bears had their own, we could definitely improve on our turf situation, but there is no guarantee that the organization would make any money off of it when it wasn’t football season with all the other established venues in the Chicago land area.

On the plus side, it does seem to provide more of an incentive for the teams that do own their own stadiums to mot only make the play-offs, but to get home field advantage. Due to the fact that you only get 10 home games a year including pre-season. That is only ten guaranteed chances to sell admission tickets and concession. Teams that make the play-offs and get home field advantage, obviously get more.

i bet if the bears org. and the city got together and tried

they could get a spot in the city cleared for a bears stadium. maybe uic can sell some of their land as they have been gobbling up a lot of it in recent years. old cabrini-green ground, or even over near st. ignatius prep. both are near the highway and would just need some uh, well serious improvement in the local streets. lol to leave a bears game and walk to exit for drinks afterward, that would be a good day.

by reefermadness3 on Dec 17, 2009 7:14 PM CST up reply actions

Because only most profitable and highest revenue generating franchises

Can afford to finance to the construction themselves…

And they continue to make more money than anyone else. Cowboys, Redskins, Patriots…

They take every cent from every aspect of every event that’s held in their stadium. Tickets, luxury boxes, parking, concessions, personal seat licenses… NFL games and practices, NCAA football, soccer, concerts, motor sports, etc.

Cowboy Stadium is getting UNC vs Texas NCAA basketball, U2 concert, the NBA All-Star game and FELD Motorcross sports events. Plus…. FIVE NCAA Football games this season:
Sept. 5 Oklahoma vs. BYU
Oct. 3 Arkansas vs. Texas A&M
Nov. 28 Baylor vs. Texas Tech
Dec. 5 Big 12 championship game
Jan. 2 AT&T Cotton Bowl Classic

All that money is going to Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.
The Chicago Bears can not, and will not, ever be able to compete with that revenue.

If the new cba doesn't go through

it would not suprise me if the bears used that to spend belloe the floor instead of more. Remember with no cap their is also no floor.

Tons of reports saying that...

Shanahan’s already accepted the position as their next coach and that they’re just waiting until the end of the year to announce it. For what that’s worth.
