The team officially placed Pisa Tinoisamoa on IR today, clearing the path for Cato June.  June will wear Pisa's old number.

LB Kevin Malast is brought back to the team on the practice squad.  Another LB... how significant is Lance Briggs' injury anyhow?

Brad Biggs tweets that Sunday will see Chris Williams at LT and Kevin Shaffer at RT.  Frank Omiyale will play LG.

evaluation time

for williams. let’s see if he’s gonna pan out or he’ll be another jerry angelo bust.

why omiyale is starting over beekman still, i have no idea. why is omiyale not at RT?

dunno.

this baffles me as well. It seems like someone can’t admit when they’ve made a mistake.

give shaffer the game at RT

since he’s actually a natural RT. if he gets overpowered (as he did all preseason), put in omiyale. i think omiyale played LT in carolina, but he’s more physical than athletic (vs. williams), so i think he’d have an easier time shifting over to RT. that we have 2/5 of our o-line playing out of position most of the year is a major reason they’ve been so bad. if either shaffer or omiyale (hopefully the latter – he’s bigger) works at RT and williams is okay at LT, we at least know something about those two spots going into next season. maybe beekman finally replaces kreutz at C as well, leaving really only one G spot to fill (garza is still solid) en route to having a functional line next season. but we need all this to go right.

For the love of God

why is Omiyale playing LG? There is no way that he gives them the best chance to win!!

Larry Mayer: Bears top pick Jarron Gilbert has been active for only one game this season. Has he not progressed as expected or is it just a matter of having too many veteran defensive linemen ahead of him?

Jerry Angelo: When we drafted Jarron Gilbert, we drafted the value of his position. We did not draft a need. Because of that, he’s having to wait his turn. There are [players] ahead of him. You normally dress seven defensive linemen, but we’ve been dressing eight, so it’s hard to get him active. He’s ready to go. I’m anxious to see him. The coaches feel he’s ready to play and deserves to play. It’s just a matter of numbers on game day.

link’ers

The best part of the whole sit down is where JA says winning is the number one priority and then evaluating their talent and developing players comes second. 9-7 or 4-12 means nothing at this point, besides trying to hold onto one of your jobs. How ’bout we make ourselves better for the long run, eh?

jerry's reply means

he’s not progressing as well as we thought. he’s not beating out our crappy defensive linemen because he’s not getting paid as much as them. and Rod hasn’t had time to work with him because of all the other problems we have on the line.

by Nih1lus on Dec 2, 2009 1:23 PM CST up reply actions

If he is ready to go.

Why not give him some time NOW since our other D-linemen suck.I rather have him than Gaines adams

by T.Moore on Dec 2, 2009 1:31 PM CST up reply actions

exactly!

our d-line sucks. why not try gilbert? i get playing harrison and anderson (though anderson had his chances this year, and he just hasn’t gotten it done), but definitely not wale, who has been garbage. get gilbert in, either in the DT rotation with harris, harrison, and adams (and i’d bump him over adams), or at DE over wale (and, i guess, have brown and anderson as your starters). there is no reason he shouldn’t be playing on a line that has been awful this year.

I must be out of the Loop

but what is up with Beekman, did he lose his guard sport or is he hurt

by Lester A. Wiltfong Jr. on Dec 2, 2009 1:37 PM CST reply actions

Neither

He’s not as rich as Omiyale!!

by McRipper on Dec 2, 2009 1:41 PM CST up reply actions

They basically suck equally...

So they’re interchangeable. I’m sure the decision is simply based on choosing the lesser of two evils depending on who is lining up across from them each week.

He's fatter than Beekman

so naturally he’s got to be better, right?

Really?

Charlie Weiss is fatter than Turner.

by TrialsBass on Dec 2, 2009 6:11 PM CST up reply actions

Not what I meant

I was saying that Turner judges who to start based on their fatness

by DaHamsta on Dec 3, 2009 3:07 PM CST up reply actions

How exactly does Beeekman "suck"?...

You do know he’s the left guard wearing number 67. Beekman may not be an all pro, but he’s light years ahead of Omiyale! Frankie “big bucks” Omiyale may actually turn out to be a good RT, but he is NOT a guard at all. He NEVER will be. And this is proof positive that the offensive coaching staff are complete idiots and need to removed before Cutler is severely injured. Shaffer is an experienced backup and good for the emergency role he can fulfill.

When you find yourself in a hole, STOP DIGGING!!!

by LostInSTL on Dec 2, 2009 8:09 PM CST up reply actions

How does Beekman suck?

Well, it all started last year, when he showed that he was too undersized and not strong enough to play with the big boys. He got blown backwards all last year!

Fast forward to 2009… same thing. Josh Beekman gets blown off the ball.

Will he eventually make a good Center? Maybe. But the only thing that I think he has going for him is that he is very young, and has time to improve. Working with Kreutz, Pace, and Garza should be good for him.

by Dane Noble on Dec 3, 2009 10:15 AM CST up reply actions

My best guess is...

Beekman will be the starting center next year, and we already know what we have with him at LG, so basically we don’t gain a lot from playing him there.
