Protests of Leadership

As the years of football pass, old fans become older fans, and new fans are born and nurtured into the sportsdom world. Being a fan is so much more than just watching a game, it is an identity, a way of life even. Some peoples’ weeks ride on a win or loss of their own beloved team. Recently this season, angry fans in Buffalo, angered over several losing seasons, paid for a billboard calling for change, and they got it. Now it has been reported that upwards of 21,000 fans came together in petitioning Al Davis to hire a GM, and paid for a billboard to go up, as well. Link

As a Bears fan, I find it unbearable, to watch our team flounder year in and year out, as we are the flagship of the NFL, the old tried and true, black and blue Chicago Bears. Yet we sit idly by almost every January and watch the Patriots, Steelers, and Colts vie for a championship. I wonder if our very own billboard would make a difference. For me, spending all this money on NFL gamepasses, jerseys, autographed memorabilia, and everything else Chicago Bears, pales in comparison to a truly worthy purchase: a voice. We truly can be the fourth phase, and have an impact on this team, for change, to let the Chicago Bears organization know, we demand more, and more importantly, we deserve more.

I don't know how to go about finding an advertising company, but if somebody could, I personally would be willing to put up some dough for a post up, would anyone else, for a change?

I wouldn't.

But then again, I’m not one of those fans that keep freaking out about every little thing that is happening. I agree some changes need to be made, but not necessarily right now – I’m assuming something will happen at the end of the season, when it should.

But again, I don’t want to get rid of Lovie, and I think we have a lot of potential and will do better next year because of the players growing and gelling this year. I never thought we’d do well this year, and while I don’t like to lose, I’m only a little surprised that we’ve done this poorly. However, I’m okay.
/end rant

You’re welcome to do what you want, but I don’t agree with the reasoning behind a billboard, so count me out. Good luck.

By the way,

don’t take my post personally. I just realized it might’ve come off as an attack on you, but it wasn’t. Just a rant in general about everyone freaking out all the time about everything. I’m tired of it!

:]

So

you’re tired of people of ranting about this terrible team, but not tired about this terrible team? Do you actually watch these games? If you do, then you must have the patience of a saint!! I don’t agree about the billboard either, I don’t think the owners care!! But I also don’t think that the problems of this team are because of growing and gelling pains!!

by McRipper on Dec 3, 2009 12:16 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yes,

I do watch the games, but complaining about how bad our team is isn’t going to solve the problems. Am I saying changes shouldn’t be made? No. But am I saying that I am sick of hearing everyone talk about how the Bears are terrible and the world is coming to an end? Yes. We’re not doing so hot, obviously, but we could be a LOT worse than we are right now. We even have an excuse to why we’re not that great, if you even need one. But at least we have a few wins and are learning to work better (I’ve seen small improvements during games… not everything goes wrong all at once.)

So call it patience or stubbornness, but I’m okay with where we are. If other people aren’t, that’s okay, they can have their opinions. I’m just tired of reading the same comments from the same people on every post about how ‘We suck’… without giving a possible solution or taking the time to think rationally.

It's okay HB

I didn’t necessarliy mean to fire Lovie… but just that someone needs to say something along the lines of

“we already have one team that hasn’t won in 100 years, we don’t need two!”

Hahaha.

You do have a point there!

Cancelling those season tickets would be the statement to make

While the waiting list sits at 10 years or whatever as the rumors go and they continue selling out stadiums, I highly doubt the McCaskeys are hurting to change for the $$ revenue.

I think their absolute silence during this debacle they call a season, along with JA’s, goes to says just exactly how much of a difference a billboard will make.

Although if someone decides to get one, I will throw in some $$$, what the heck.

If we don't see any significant changes heading into 2010

and as a result have a similar record in the next season, then I would be all for it. It would be a very powerful message especially in a huge market city like Chicago. We could protest the park district to install better turf while we’re at it as well. I’ll even design the damn thing!

nothing

nothing we fans say or do will have any affect on the team. we just have to sit back and smell the roses like we have pretty much done for the last 25 years when the bears were great.

Bring back our honey bears...sick and tired of hearing about the dallas cowboy cheerleaders and the bars they go work at when they quit. cold weather + cheerleaders in skimpy outfits = lots of fun

"We know what you did this season..."

“We see you!”
“The final countdown”

The possibilities are endless! :P It could actually be kind of fun to see what people could come up with…

Golden State Warriors fans....

have been “voting with their dollar” since 1994 and it hasn’t helped yet. Never underestimate a Sports Franchise owner’s ability to simply let things slide as long as they stay in the black. As long as they can still turn a profit there is no impetus to make ac hange except actually desiring to be a successful team. Billy Beane builds a team with no money and no fan support because winning and being successful matters to him. Chris Cohan (Warrios owner) could care less, he wants to make his money back and could care less about winning. True Warriors fans are fed up, but enough casual fans trickle into the Oracle Arena to keep his accounts happy.

As Bears fans, many of us are passionate and loyal, and the idea of skipping games, or giving up those rare season tickets for the possible betterment of the team sounds like a huge sacrifice and unless ALL of us comply it won’t work. The ownership has a captive audience, a captive paying audience.

Also, Raiders fans just put up a billboard for Al Davis telling him to get a GM. Think it’s going to work (hint: no it’s not).

sadly you are right

in theory it sounds great to organize some sort of effort to force change for the better down at halas hall. however if this were to include in any way me jumping out of the season ticket line i’ve been in for a good then like most people i will be content to badmouth the team to friends and coworkers. no way am i jumping ship on these babies unless they hire charles martin’s ghost for qb coach or something equally offensive.

no way am i jumping ship on these babies unless they hire charles martin’s ghost for qb coach or something equally offensive.

He may not have been a QB, the fact that he was a thug notwithstanding, but I half-entertained that thought for a split second on the basis that he couldn’t do any worse at developing our QBs than we’ve done over the years. That is, unless he ghost-slams them into the turf and separates their shoulders.

ha

maybe that shiteating ghost could teach cutler to throw dirty blocks like brady quinn to help the team out. he’s got plenty of bears money to pay the fines off with.

Buy out the Bears.

Somebody over there needs to push the McCaskeys to sell up. The McCaskeys clearly don’t give a sh*t about football. They should finally stand aside and cash in – publicly float the Bears and let the fans own them. There are enough Cusacks and Pivens and Bill Murray’s out there to join forces with. Let’s own a piece of the Bears !!!
