Charlie Weis Interested in the Bears
According to this article from Neil Hayes, Charlie Weis would be interested in running the Bears offense should the position become vacant, despite six teams being interested in talking to Weis.
My prediction is that Weis ends up back in New England, but we'll see in a few weeks how this shakes down.
A source close to Charlie Weis confirmed that the former Notre Dame coach would be interested in the Bears' offensive coordinator position if it were to become available after this season.

Hm
I’m really not surprised that he’s interested, after all we do have a lot of potential on the offensive side of the ball. That said, I don’t know how likely it is that Turner will be canned, and even if he is, will Weis still be on the market?
I can see him easily going back to NE. If Turner is the most likely scapegoat for the season, this would be a good pickup for us.
Ron gets sent to the showers to protect Lovie and JA.
That’s not true!!! WHY THE F*CK WOULD YOU SAY THAT YOU AHOLE!! Ok maybe your right but you gotta give a little something here for it to work. I don’t know what I’m going to do this is the worst thing I’ve ever read, this day could not get any worse. Fine, F*ck it, you’re right.

And the Bears would be dumb enough to be interested in Weis.

thing is not all Coordinators make good Head Coaches
The list goes on and on, but to say you would not want him as our OC makes me ask the question why? The guy is a proven Offensive mind with the rings to back it up.

And to go from Pro Level...
Where you can train and coach 20 hours a day for 6 days straight if you want as an OC to being a HC at college level where you are only allowed 14 hours a week to coach is a tough change.

Well as far as the New England thing
I am thinking Weis is looking for a payday and i am not sure the penny pinching Pats are going to shell out the kind of money that some teams are willing top pay for him. Not only that, but with the coaching carousel the last few years in the NFL, i would assume he would want to take a job with a chance of picking up the Head Coaching Job in a couple years ie “cough” “cough” Lovie “cough”.
The article was also saying he would lean more towards coaching somewhere in the midwest to stay closer to his family. Well, Chi-town is pretty close to South Benn with a upcomming head coaching change that’s inevitable. Then theres the Cleveland OC job or depends if Man Genius is gonna see another year could quickly turn into a HC job reunited with his Golden Boy Brady Quinn. Lots of different routes this could take but i think it makes sense he is looking to be a HC sooner rather than later and the only way Belichek stops coaching the Pats is if he decides to retire or just Die.
Is it a no brainer?
He invited himself to the party by creating his own invitation. He stands in the room and wants attention. He is wearing a big sign that says," PICK ME! I AM THE MAN FOR THE JOB!" That man is Charlie Weis. He has reportedly came out publicly and stated that he would be interested in the Bears OC position if it were to become available. Now the question lies, Do the McCaskeys and Angelo have their spectacles on? are they willing to acknowledge that enormous, gleefully obvious, sequoia amongst shrubs, Charlie Weis? do they have that ability to look at Ron Turner and wonder what the hell is going on? I liken Ron Turner to a scene in the Great American Classic Porky’s.
When The Boys are driving to Porky’s late at night to create some Hijinx they drive past a woman with an unreal body, long legs, short cutoff shorts, very sexy, and a candidate to lose their virginity too, bent over looking into her car because it had just broken down. They stop to help her all nervous with excitement, to only realize that once she turns around her face looks like Leather Face from Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Ron Turner is that girl. His scheme looks good(somewhere, maybe in madden or flag football) but once you really see it, it is a pile of last nights Habenero infused dinner being flushed down the toilet.
Ron Turner’s Offenses have been atrocious since being with the Bears as their OC. From 93-96 his Offenses were ranked 24th(93), 24th(94), and 8th(95). Then left the Bears to bless the University of Illinois with his greatness and compile stats worthy of greatness by having an astounding .380 winning percentage. He was so successful at U of I that the Bears had to have this offensive Guru back in Chicago. For round two his offenses have ranked 26th(05) 2(06), 18(07), 14(08), 21(09). What is frightening about those stats is that, sure he had the 2nd ranked offense in ’06 but what we should all remember and hopefully the Bears Management remembers as well, the Defense and Special teams was the real reason for that 2nd ranking. Good field position and defensive scores led to that ranking, not Ron Turner and his 5 yard outs, screen passes to his wide receivers 3 yards behind the line, and his 2 yard bursts up the middle. If you look at the Bears Offense in terms of Yards, the Bears are always in the bottom 10 with Ronny Running, or maybe I should say baby learning to walk, the show. Except for 96 and 06. Where they fall into the bottom Half. The one exception where Ron let the ball fly was in 95 when Erik Kramer had his career year, and I feel should have made the pro-bowl. So 1 good year offensively out of 9? Inexcusable. The Bears front office has to send Ronny out to the Pasture.
Now Charlie Weis wants in. He wants to resurrect this Bears offense. He has the Quarterback to do it, a rough Tom Brady? possibly? seriously, I just wanted to say that to see how it felt and to put me into a fantasy world. It felt good for half a second, but the reality is, more like Cindy Brady, this season, he could improve next season. I hope, you hope, all of WCG hopes, and all of Chicago hopes. Cutler is going to need some mental training first, maybe Weis could help him out with that. I am willing to role the dice that he will help, not just Cutler, but the rest of this JR. High offense. I understand that Weis is not the cure all for this team, but he is a start. The Bears need an offensive line to protect Jay and Forte, the Bears need WR’s and they need a Head Coach who has a clue. The Bears are a huge reclamation project. I am just hoping the McCaskeys are paying attention to what is happening to this team.
Charlie Weis for OC ’10! lets make it happen!
What team is Weis NOT interested in?
The guy is unemployed!

hmmmm
I broke Weis down in a fanpost a week or so ago and I still believe he is the best fit for us at OC. I think Jay Cutler is a attractive element for Weis who helped Quinn excel at ND (note I said AT ND) improved the much hyped Jimmy Clausen settle down his Sophmore season and runs a spread offense similar to what Cutler saw with Shanny in Denver (note I said SIMILAR, not the same).
I wondered if he would want to stay in this area after the way the Chicagolan press dug at him, but he’s the right sort of fit in my opinion. I also wouldn’t be against him sticking around to REPLACE lovie. He’s a rare talent with a great football mind.
just speaking on Weis's time with him
Weis’ track record is impressive with QBs:
- New England drafted Tom Brady in 2000, same year Weis takes job in NE. I think we all saw how that worked out.
- Before Weis showed up in ND, Brady Quinn was playing mediocre. However, after he showed up: “He averaged 110 more passing yards per game than he had as a sophomore while nearly doubling his number of touchdown passes, throwing 32 in 2005 compared to 17 in 2004” (from Wikipedia)
- What I already mentioned about Clausen. Showed up to much hype, had some bad showings, Charlie calmed him down, and he started making progress (QB rating went up, TDs went up, etc).
Another interesting note: Cutler, Clausen, Quinn and Brady (6’3"-4" around 230) have similar physical characteristics and Clausen reminds me a lot of Cutler in his sheer arm strength and his love of the deep ball.
change is coming fellas, keep your fingers crossed that its the right change for the team

ehhh
i just don’t see any change in coaching…just can’t see them changing, i hope but i don’t want to get my hopes up too high
so an unemployed guy
is interested in employment? wow, thanks media.
Ownership hold off on a OC
McCaskeys first need to determine what, if any, changes will be made at the GM and HC levels. Regarding Charlie, Cutler probably wouldn’t be a good fit for a Patriot style spread offense.
huh?
Cutler probably wouldn’t be a good fit for a Patriot style spread offense
How so? He’s looked quite comfortable with 3 WRs lined up this season, Shanny ran many plays in a wide open or spread format, and Bobby Johnson (a former WR himself) ran a wide open offense at Vandy for him.
It's not a wide open style offense,
but the complete opposite. It’s a systems approach. Jay would have to make some major changes.
My biggest concern is that the Bears try...
to simply punt on the firing of Lovie at the end of this season. Turner will be this year’s scapegoat and some other coach with nothing to lose will take his spot. Be that Weis or Martz or some other needless non-answer. I see Martz or Weis as plausible because if they fail, no one expects much and if they succeed (meaning the Bears aren’t worse on offense than this season) they get a HC job in 2 years. It gives the Bears a way to make “bold” changes without really fixing the problem. If this is what happens (i.e. Lovie and the entire staff is not fired at seasons end), This team will be awful for many years to come and the Cutler trade will have been a waste. I do not want Weis or Martz or anyone else to simply replae Turner. Lovie NEEDS TO BE FIRED ASAP!
When you find yourself in a hole, STOP DIGGING!!!
