Projected O-Lineman for 2010 Draft

As many readers here at WCG have stated, to include me, that the Bears need to draft, no scratch that, must draft an Offensive Lineman in the upcoming draft.  I’ve put together a few names for you to pay attention to during the upcoming bowl games.  Players to be on the look-out for so you evaluate them yourself and see if they have any hope of help out the mess of an Offensive Line.  All information is take from http://walterfootball.com/draft2010OT.php

Star-divide

Mike Johnson, Alabama

Height: 6-6. Weight: 305.
Projected 40 Time: 5.20.
Projected Round (2009): 2-3.

2/10/09: A major reason for Alabama's return to glory. Mike Johnson was voted to the All-SEC Second Team. He started every game, 12 at guard and one at left tackle.

7/28/08: The bookend tackle across from Andre Smith, Mike Johnson started every game as a sophomore. Johnson seems like he would be a better fit as a guard at the next level.

Mitch Petrus, Arkansas
Height: 6-4. Weight: 305.
Projected 40 Time: 5.17.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

2/10/09: Academically ineligible. Missed the 2008 season.

5/25/08: In his first full season as a starter, Mitch Petrus qualified for the All-SEC second team, thanks to the production of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones.

John Jerry, Ole Miss
Height: 6-5. Weight: 350.
Projected 40 Time: 5.42.
Projected Round (2009): 3-4.

10/24/09: Named SEC Lineman of the Week in early October. Will fit with a team that prefers large linemen like the Eagles.

2/10/09: Will likely follow his older brother, Perry Jerry, into the NFL as a first-day selection.

7/28/08: Indianapolis residents should think about getting earthquake insurance soon. When John Jerry runs a 40 at the combine, many homes could be destroyed. Jerry, obviously a punishing run-blocker, started nine contests as a sophomore.

Sergio Render, Virginia Tech
Height: 6-4. Weight: 324.
Projected 40 Time: 5.20.
Projected Round (2009): 3-4.

2/10/09: A member of the 2008 All-ACC Second Team, Sergio Render just went through arthroscopic shoulder surgery. He'll be good to go in August.

7/28/08: Earned the starting job right away in 2006 despite being a freshman. Sergio Render improved his play as a sophomore. Oh, and he benches more than 425 pounds, so don't try to steal his lunch money.

Rodney Hudson*, Florida State
Height: 6-2. Weight: 292.
Projected 40 Time: 5.21.
Projected Round (2009): 3-4.

2/10/09: Continued to thrive as Florida State's top lineman. Rodney Hudson easily was voted to the All-ACC First Team.

7/28/08: Regarded by many as Florida State's best offensive lineman in 2007 - when he was a mere true freshman. Rodney Hudson was naturally named to the Freshmen All-America first team and the All-ACC third team.

Thomas Austin, Clemson
Height: 6-3. Weight: 315.
Projected 40 Time: 5.12.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

2/11/09: Enjoyed a great junior campaign and was named to the All-ACC Second Team.

7/28/08: Thomas Austin started 12 contests as a sophomore. He's versatile and can play guard as well.

Shawn Lauvao, Arizona State
Height: 6-3. Weight: 305.
Projected 40 Time: 5.29.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.

2/10/09: After logging nine starts as a sophomore, Shawn Lauvao was an All-Pac 10 honorable mention in 2008.

Jon Asamoah, Illinois
Height: 6-4. Weight: 315.
Projected 40 Time: 5.12.
Projected Round (2009): 4-5.

2/10/09: An honorable All-Big Ten mention in 2008, having started 25 games in the past two years.

Jeff Byers, USC
Height: 6-3. Weight: 288.
Projected 40 Time: 5.18.
Projected Round (2010): 5-6.

2/10/09: Finally stayed healthy for a year, qualifying for the All-Pac 10 Second Team.

2007: Jeff Byers had enormous potential until he missed the past two seasons with different injuries. He's currently healthy, so let's see what he makes of his final two years as a Trojan.

And now the Tackles:

Gabe Carimi*, Wisconsin
Height: 6-8. Weight: 320.
Projected 40 Time: 5.20.
Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

10/24/09: Doing a great job anchoring Wisconsin's offensive line and stout rushing attack.

Sam Young, Notre Dame
Height: 6-7. Weight: 318.
Projected 40 Time: 5.20.
Projected Round (2010): 2-3.

10/24/09: Probably should have declared last year; USC exposed Sam Young.

11/1/08: As expected, Sam Young really improved this season and has emerged as a possible second-round prospect.

2007: Sam Young really struggled at Penn State. On one drive, he was guilty of holding and false start penalties. He was also responsible for a few sacks allowed.

Young was arguably the top recruit in the 2006 high school class, and you can tell why by just looking at him. Started for Notre Dame as a true freshman and went against the likes of Lawrence Jackson. Still has room to grow, which is pretty scary.

Kyle Calloway, Iowa
Height: 6-7. Weight: 315.
Projected 40 Time: 5.22.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

10/24/09: Projects as a very solid right tackle in the NFL, but Kyle Calloway was arrested for drunk driving in September.

2/9/09: A right tackle at the next level, Kyle Calloway as an All-Big Ten second-teamer.

7/27/08: Looking to become the next successful Hawkeye to transition to the NFL, Kyle Calloway started every game for Iowa in 2007, alternating between left and right tackle.

Chris Scott, Tennessee
Height: 6-5. Weight: 341.
Projected 40 Time: 5.43.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

10/24/09: Named SEC Offensive Lineman of the Week once this year.

2/9/09: Things were much different for the Vols in 2008. The offense was completely inept and the Great Pumpkin was consequently fired. Chris Scott will need Lane Kiffin to help his stock rebound.

7/27/08: A versatile lineman who can play just about every position up front. He started every game for a unit that surrendered only four quarterback sacks in 2007.

Anthony Costanzo, Boston College
Height: 6-7. Weight: 295.
Projected 40 Time: 4.96.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

Selvish Capers, West Virginia
Height: 6-6. Weight: 289.
Projected 40 Time: 4.91.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

10/24/09: A project of a left tackle, though Al Davis may draft him in Rounds 2-4.

11/1/08: Perfect for the zone-blocking scheme, Selvish Capers' athleticism will turn some heads at the Combine.

Lee Ziemba*, Auburn
Height: 6-8. Weight: 298.
Projected 40 Time: 5.17.
Projected Round (2010): 3-4.

7/27/08: Lee Ziemba qualified for the Freshmen All-America first team, as he started every game for Auburn despite being a true freshman.

Mike Tepper, California
Height: 6-6. Weight: 324.
Projected 40 Time: 5.24.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

5/15/09: Missed all of 2008 with pectoral and groin injuries. Forunately, Cal's left tackle received another year of eligibility.

Kevin Haslam, Rutgers
Height: 6-5. Weight: 295.
Projected 40 Time: 5.22.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

10/24/09: Has rotated at guard and right tackle at Rutgers.

Derek Hardman, Eastern Kentucky
Height: 6-6. Weight: 305.
Projected 40 Time: 5.19.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

10/24/09: The athletic Derek Hardman was named a preseason All-American in August.

Zane Beadles, Utah
Height: 6-4. Weight: 312.
Projected 40 Time: 5.26.
Projected Round (2010): 4-5.

2/9/09: A major reason why Utah was able to be crowned national champs, Zane Beadles was an All-Mountain West first-teamer.

7/27/08: Zane Beadles qualified for the All-Mountain West second team, as he started 13 games at left tackle in 2007 after starting 12 contests at guard as a freshman.

My question is....

Who really cares about 40 time for a 300 lbs OG? I mean, COME ON MAN! This guy weighs over 300 lbs, do you really expected a sub 5 sec run? Really? Really?

That’s not true!!! WHY THE F*CK WOULD YOU SAY THAT YOU AHOLE!! Ok maybe your right but you gotta give a little something here for it to work. I don’t know what I’m going to do this is the worst thing I’ve ever read, this day could not get any worse. Fine, F*ck it, you’re right.

You do if you’re Al Davis.

For an offensive lineman

look at his 10 yard split time, I think having them run the 40 is pointless

Admit a short amount would be better

But the speed of your o-line is important with a qb that likes to roll out. Also when it comes to running and effective trap scheme.

ummmmm

Did I miss an entire College football season or is this a typo?

Even though he plays tackle ...

…and I believe we need a guard, I want the Bears to draft this guy (mostly ’cause he goes to my school)

Seriously though, this guy is a BEAST!

I have to say

his name is pretty badass. that’s a start, at least!

RT

The Bears need a “mauling” type to inject some size and youth in the running game. Some depth at guard wouldn’t hurt either.

We're not scaremongering (nightmare of a season continues), this is really happening (Bears are more than done) - Radiohead

Fantasic writeup on this one gaclaudy...

but none of these guys can help the Bears if the coaches are still here. I don’t just mean the offense, but all of them and JA too. My guess is that JA will go after Byers because he will drop due to injury history. JA loves to go after injured guys that fall in the draft; see Bowman, Harrison, and Williams.

When you find yourself in a hole, STOP DIGGING!!!

I like the name

Perry Jerry.

The end, :]

Good call,

almost sounds like a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream

Haha, it does.

Throw some “cherry” in and we’re set!
