Brett Favre to Retire...Hopefully for Good This Time (w/Poll)

From ESPN.com:

Without the tearful public ceremony that accompanied his retirement announcement from the Green Bay Packers just 11 months ago, quarterback Brett Favre has instructed agent Bus Cook to inform the New York Jets Wednesday that he plans to retire.

In an e-mail to ESPN's Ed Werder, Favre indicated he had no regrets about finishing his career with the Jets rather than with the Green Bay Packers franchise he represented for his previous 16 NFL seasons. He specifically praised Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum, team owner Woody Johnson and fired coach Eric Mangini -- and even mentioned Thomas Jones and Kerry Rhodes, both of whom were publicly critical of Favre after the team's collapse in the final month of the season prevented the Jets from making the playoffs.

Let's hope it's for good this time and we don't have to hear about that overrated, interception-throwing, unshaven redneck anymore.

Kinda harsh there at the end, weren't you?

I mean, I hate the Packers and all like everyone else around here, but to take that attack to a personal level is not very professional of you.

Overrated? Maybe. Interception-throwing? Yep.

But pointing out a personal battle he had to deal with (like many people deal with every day) and usin what could be considered a derrogatory comment about his roots… that’s just too insulting in my opinion.

As far as him retiring, it is probably time. The guy could probably squeeze out another year or 2, but the way he ostracized himself from his teammates, and his collapse at the end of the season, it probably is a good move to hang up the spikes.

I can say that the game is better thanks to Farve, and it was definately a sight seeing him at Lambau for all those years. The guy loved the game… he just wore the colors of a garbage team.

Things will get better as they improve...

NFL should bar him from returning to the league

If he files the retirement papers, he’s done. No return..

ESPN would never allow it

Favre accounted for almost 80% of ESPN’s late summer broadcasting :)

All this Brett Favre crap has been like....

slow and painful torture! Brett Farve has acted like a total idiot the last three years. Putting the Packers through that drama twice! Making them friggin wait around until forever. That was ridiculous! I think Brett Farve just wanted to be wanted. What was Green Bay supposed to do? Sit around and go through all that shit again? Heck no! Take your ass to NY. Brett Favre left behind a legacy for sure but what if he would have just shut up and played the last three years instead of all that garbage? or if he would have just retired three years ago period? His legacy would be greater than what it is now, guaranteed.

A lot of people are going to need him

if Brady isn’t ready at the beginning of the season. You can only crush on an injured player so m uch.

I was referring to the media's

crush on Favre and Brady. If Brady isn’t ready to go they need somebody to talk about. I supposed they always have TO.

????Are you serious?

Over rated? dude i recently said this other guy was the dumbest guy ever for his “Trade Urlacher” post, but damn was I wrong. Dude I hate the packers just as much as any Bears fan. But you need to face the facts that Brett Favre is one of the best quarterbacks, if not the BEST qb to ever step on the field. He torched us for damn near 16 years.

I wonder if you even watch football? You are the redneck sir.
