TRADE URLACHER!
As the last 3 seasons as shown, Urlacher is on a downward spiral towards mediocracy. Right now we could probably trade him for a 3rd and 5th round pick. It we could get a decently low 3rd round pick for him lets jump on it.
With the freed up cap we could go after Terrell Suggs or Dansby, both not your typical cover 2 LBs but both are incredibly talented and more importantly young and in their primes. Move Mr Briggs over to MLB and let him dominate....much like Urlacher did at this stage of his career.
Now package our 2nd and 1st round picks to move up in the draft and grab one of the game changing WRs....Crabtree, Maclin. Preferrably Crabtree because Maclin may not be worth.
Just a thought to really improve our WRs and our LBs....would be nice to have Suggs and Briggs' speed in the cover 2.

Selfishy - I want him to remain because I want to see him play next season when I go to a Bears game
But I think it would be better to see what is OFFERED for him first..

Hopefully,
He will get plenty of rest and recovery this offseason… and hopefully bringing in Marinelli will re-light the fire under his feet and motivate him to play at a level I think he can still play at.
I really don’t think we have seen the last of Lach… maybe I am just hopelessly hoping…
Things will get better as they improve...

Ulacher is the only
guy I have a jersey of who has stuck around and been good for a number of years.
It would be a shame that I have to find another one.

Yeah I have an Urlacher jersey
It’s real old now, I got it back in 2004. But I also just got a Kreutz jersey, which kind of sucks because I am sure he will be gone in a another year or two.

Do we go with Briggs or plan for the long run
and get the Forte?
If we got Boldin that would be an easy choice.

Well of course
I would say wait until Forte gets a contract extension in another two years just to be safe. Briggs will be the best defensive player to get especially if Harris can’t stay healthy.
I feel like we should have a jersey purchasing discussion on here like once a year just so everyone can throw out whose jersey is a good or bad investment, haha. To think, three years ago I wanted a Moose jersey…

We should gather up all these old jerseys
of players who aren’t with us and were never any good, the mail them to the Bears with a big note asking for a rebate.

or we can ship them to Africa.

Yeah they all think the Buffalo Bills rule.
Because all the losing Super Bowl team merch to Africa. We should ask for a rebate on all the Enis and McNown and CedBen and Moose.

Not gonna happen.
Not this off season. Brian had a bad year for what we are used to from him as the standard is set very high by Brian and the Bears. Consider Brian had 93 tackles and 79 solo while someone like Keith Bulluck had a “great year” in Tennessee with 98 tackles and 75 solo. It is highly unlikely the Bears are ready to trade the face of the team.

Not going to happen
I am 99% sure it wont happen and its dissapointing. Just frustrating when your team is more concerned with marketing a team around a star player rather than building a franchise. The Bears organization is building around urlacher and the defense because that is what they want the bears to be known as…. they arent trying to build a well rounded team.
I love Urlacher and he has been great to this organization and team but the bears need to evolve. Passing game and 3-4 defenses are becoming the NFL standards. Do it….come on do it.

As long as Lovie is around....
It will be the Tampa 2. These guys (Lovie and Marinelli) are stuck on the Tampa 2 and no one can tell them differently.

I wonder if Urlacher still feels the same as he did in 2006
When during all the talk about getting Smith a contract extension he said he didn’t want to play for a coach other than Lovie Smith.
by GallopingGhost on Feb 12, 2009 1:36 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
No way!!!
just because he had one mediocre season does not mean he needs to be traded. to everyone that bashes the tampa 2, remember he won defensive player of the year with the scheme. his play regressed because of the d-line. if the bears switch to 3-4 it wouldn’t affect Urlacher. look what it did for Ray Lewis.

Not saying, just saying
that he may be getting old and if this opportunity is out there not a bad idea to explore it. We could get a younger core of LBs and the tools to move up in the draft to get a playmaker in the passing game. The 3-4 defense would not hurt or help any of the LBs but it would help us get pressure on the QB.
Urlacher won defensive player of the year in 2005 and didnt have a much different year than any year previous…..120 total tackles (had 145 total the following year). I am not arguing he has some left in his tank but the years of 120 plus tackle may be behind him. Might as well see if by trading him we can improve the entire team and add youth to our LBs which are so important to the cover 2 scheme lovie stands by

Dick Butkus said on the radio a month and a half ago
That the first product of a bad defensive line is that the MLB is blocked and become ineffective. That’s what happened to Urlacher this year. He is not washed up. He could even be in line for a Comeback Player of the Year award if we shored up the line.

Annnnd
the sign of an aging, speed linebacker that needs to be moved to the outside is a LB that cant get off of blocks. Earlier in his career he would blow up a leading fullback, now he gets pushe dout the play with regularity. I am sorry but Briggs is younger, stronger and wouldnt allow that right now.

Who said that Briggs wasn’t younger and stronger? So let’s trade Urlacher for Briggs :) my point is your comment isn’t saying anything that makes sense for your point.

I'd like to see Urlacher
with a full season of Anthony Adams in front. Dvorcek showed promise but never came through.

Something very special in the making
I can feel it! What if Hot Rod can work his magic with Mark Anderson? Call me crazy but Anderson kind of reminds me of Alonzo Spellman minus the mental issues.

Can't wait to see what Hot Rod can get out of Anderson...
You’ve just got to use him properly on 3rd and long, and let him loose.
I'm not going to even bother trying to update this sig everyday anymore... that's what the standings column on ESPN is for.

Sure it does….I am saying Urlacher is still a good player but not an outstanding standout player. Briggs would do a much better job in the middle and having Suggs on the outside would be very nice. Getting rid of Urlacher, who has 2-3 yrs left in him will get us a much needed passing threar via the draft.
Briggs is 27…not 30…why would we get rid of him?

Maybe
We should get an OLB that can actually rush the passer AND cover somebody instead of HH? Urlacher’s still got 3 good yrs ahead of him IMO. What makes you think Briggs would be better in the middle than ‘Lach? Maybe in a 3-4, but as stated, Lovie lives and dies by the Cover 2 so Brian’s the man for that. I think playing so close to the line last yr hurt him and made him easier to get to by lineman and fullbacks. Hopefully that will change next yr

Stupid idea
and u should stop now before u anger Urlacher
that said we need a 3rd LB/SLB to replace Nic Roach (Maualaga/Cushing?) more than DE.
moving up to get crabtree would be awesome.

lol best middle linebacker in football
he’s a shell of his former self. you’d have to live in a box not to notice that.
i think to many people on this site (and Bears fans in general) have some weird obsession with him. it’s time to face the facts: he’ll never be the same player he was. we might as well trade him to a team that might actually make the playoffs and save some cash.

this year...
he had a bad season but, last year had an outstanding year and was jipped out of the pro bowl. He had a pro bowl season last year so i dont really see why you think hes not up to be that great anymore. Let me know how you come to this conclusion, maybe im just missing something.

Good last year
Yes but this past season he had under 100 tkls and no sacks. Last year his stats could be misleading, compared to previous years he dissapeared at times and just watching the full season play out you ddint see him going sideline to sideline. He had 3 big games that year and was non-existent in 8 others have 6 or less tackles.
People hold on Urlacher like he is the same freak of nature LB we had 5 years ago but he isnt. He is still a very good player without a doubt. But as a franchise the Bears need to think about retooling a defense that was easily in the bottom half of the league. We could some additional speed off the edge, Suggs can give that to us and we could use an offensive weapon to compliment Forte.
I am tired of fellow Bears complaining about our lackluster seasons but when it comes to being aggressive in the offseason no one wants to see that. There is a reason the teams that finish in the middle of the pack year after year stay there….because they lack the fortitude to move up in the draft by making an aggresive trade and lack the ability to part with an aging franchise player.
