Expected News: Bears cut ties with veteran Mike Brown
Well, here is the link from the Chicago Tribune: Click!
The link doesn't go into much detail; however, it pretty much states that Mike Brown will not be returning next season. It's not a shock, for he was injury proned and on the wrong side of 30 for his position. He was a team leader that will truly be missed, but this is a necessary move in my opinion. I really am not looking forward to next season with the gaps of this team getting much larger. Draft day is going to have to be critical for this team's success next season...

We knew this would happen,
but it still sucks nonetheless. MB has been the emotional leader on this team, and his presence on the field will be missed.
I like the idea WCG expressed a while back: Brown should just hang up his cleats and move into a coaching role with the Bears.
Things will get better as they improve...
It would be nice to have him as a coach
but he is still pretty young and actually doesn’t have all that much playing time, I’d expect he wants to still give playing a shot.

Just to clarify: he's not being released.
He’s a free agent, and the Bears have no plans to re-sign him.

The Bears already have the most retired numbers
It’s going to be real hard for them to retire too many more. The next number I can see being retired is Ditka’s. And I don’t think that will happen. They certainly won’t do it for a guy who isn’t even close to HOF and is really a great leader and franchise defensive TD leader but no, no number retirement, sorry.

I'd see Urlacher's number getting retired
I mean I’m sure he’s probably a HOF, so I wouldnt doubt it if “54” was last worn by him.

I'm worried about Urlacher's HOF chances
I do think he will get in, but I could see him not making for a few years.
All that talk about him being overrated starts with the journalists and they are the ones voting.

Olin Kreutz's chances are better
to get into the HOF before Urlacher.

They still haven't retired Singletary's #50
And he’s in the HOF.
The Bears 13 retired jersey numbers are the most in the NFL.

yeah
the same with the yankees. i remember the topic was bought up a couple years ago in a newspaper. they talked about moving to triple digits. how many people would want to wear numbers like 007, 666, or their area code?

How could you seriously suggest retiring Mike Brown's #.... with a stright face?
The Bears have 26 HOFers… and only 13 of them have had their #s retired. Mike Brown’s been to 1… let me re-count that… yep 1 Pro-Bowl.
The 46 defense was named after Doug Plank’s #, yet we haven’t retired that jersey.
Gary Fencik’s #45 is still worn (2 Pro Bowls)
Shaun Gayle’s #23 is still worn (1 Pro Bowl)
Mark Carrier’s #20 is still worn (3 Pro Bowls & Defensive ROY)

I'd agree with that
Brown does not get retired. He hasn’t done anything other than get hurt.
Maybe do to the type of plays he has made people have a bigger picture of him in their head than he should be.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
i guess you guys are right
i still haven’t came off that 2001 high yet. How many times did Brown get injured after making a huge play? In a way it kind of sums up his Career. then again, all you hear about brown is what a natural leader he was; the best of the post ’85 era. And early in his career he was regarded as one of the best, if not the best safety in the NFL.
Oh yeah Singletary’s number is retired. It happened his last year in the league.

Expected but nonetheless sad.
Kind of like when the Cubs let Wood go. You’re sorry to see it happen but you understand it’s probably for the best. And I agree, he should just become a coach.

Hypothetically speaking I meant
However some could have taken it quite literally (cough WCG cough)
#34: You'll be missed!
Think they could have traded him for a draft pick last year?
Viva la nuance! Reading comprehension rules!!!
He was worth more
to the team when healthy than he’d ever bring back in trade.
DEJESUS!!!
