Lovie addresses the QB situation
According to Kevin Seifert (NFC North blogger for ESPN), Lovie had some interesting thoughts on our QB's:
Chicago's Lovie Smith went out of his way Saturday to say he would be comfortable entering training camp with an inexperienced backup for starter Kyle Orton. His roster currently includes Orton, second-year player Caleb Hanie and newcomer Brett Basanez. Asked if he would be fine with that trio in 2009, Smith said:
"Yes I would," Smith said. "I mean, everybody wants a veteran. And that's good. And who knows? We haven't shut the door on any of our positions right now. But I think sometimes you have to go with young talent. Of course, Brett has played a little bit in the league. And what I saw from Caleb Hanie last year, it gets you excited."
"What we've got here is failure to communicate" - Cool Hand Luke
Lovie and Jerry need to go out, grab a nice meal together, order some wine, and talk. Jerry wants a QB, Lovie doesn't seem to care. Jerry doesn't want to go get a good WR, Lovie does.

lovie can't do anythng about it
by talking to the media, so what’s the point? only thing he can really do is talk positively of the situation he has and say what he wants to Jerry behind closed doors.

Lovie is on the right track.
He’s saying that we are good to go with our QB’s. And rightfully so. Orton is durable, but the only questionable thing would be, what if Orton gets injured? Who can step in? Well it’s going to have to be Hanie or Basenez.
I’m with Lovie on this all the way. Let’s now focus on how we can help Orton. with our QB situation decided we can focus on improving the more pressing needs.

If we don't fix our line and can't find a legit WR
Then it won’t really matter who fills in for Orton if he gets hurt. We probably won’t be a good team anyway.

I'm pretty sure that the main reason......
to set the record strait with the QB’s by Lovie is so that we can focus on the rest of the team, mainly O-line and WR. I would bank on the Bears being better than we were last year. I think we may be a serious contender.

anywhoo
haight, i do not wish for you to wipe foulness on your face, merely a play on the old “wishing in one hand and…..see which fills up first’ phrase.” I figure you’re crazy enough you could take that joke.
looking forward to the upcoming shennanigans that will undoubtedly result from the puritanical moderation and eccentric readership.

They need to decide
if Hanie is the QB of the future. If he is, there isn’t much need to address QB in the draft or through FA, other than to pick up a project. If not, then they need to sign a veteran or use a decent draft pick to be there in case Orton goes down. I’m not a big Hanie fan, so I’d like to see them pick up Nate Davis in the second or third round and have him sit for a year.

Got faith?
I surely don’t feel comfortable having Hanie come in if Orton gets hurt. There can’t be a huge drop-off in production if this were to happen. Not to say Kyle is great or anything, but look past his rating, and comp. % from last year and ask yourself…did he really have a lot of help? O-line was shaky at best in pass-blocking, our receivers were nothing short of awful on 3rd downs and crucial game-changing plays.

What are we going to get for Grossman?
When are we going to ship him?

what...
… is he supposed to say? That he hates the players on his team, and hopes that they get replaced?

We like our QB position...
even if it’s been sub-par for my entire tenure. How can he possibly believe that Hanie is a capable backup?

The point is- can Lovie risk that going into the season?

I'd rather
have Simms, Leftwich, Garcia, or a draftee like Freeman.

Thing is,
Those guys would be just as much of a question mark as Hanie. I’m not saying Hanie is the answer at #2, but we only know about him about as much as we know how any of those other guys would do as #2.
Except Garcia… he will not go somewhere as a #2… he’ll want to compete for #1.
