Jim Leonhard and Barnes and a WR

A couple of my friends are Ravens freaks, and so I watched quite a bit of their games.

I think he's worth going after for FS though he could play either. He's a good hitter but also has great instincts.

And, he did not yet sign with the Jets, though he is basically destined there by media and experts.

He's from Wisconsin, and he was a great player there, and I think worth offering a contract.

I'd be happy getting Leonhard, Khalif Barnes and a WR. I don't see why Brandon Lloyd was let go. He was minimal drama, as for all the baggage that came with him. And, he looked like he played hard in the games, and tried to catch difficult passes.

Laverneus Coles? I'd like a younger option, myself, though I wouldn't throw a fit if we signed a Coles-type FA. You know, someone that isn't potentially good, but does well.

I guess where's my the ball, oh, on the ground, Davies is our veteran WR, again.

ya but...

Leonard is lk 5’8 and 180 or so, he’s very undersized, players always look good in college and also anyone is gonna look good with Ed Reed as your counterpart, lol. As for Barnes, I have no problem w/ that, its better than getting backups from Carolina(our farmsystem). I wouldve liked to see them keep lloyd, he’d be a good 3rd wideout or maybe 4th. As for Coles, I think he would be a real good receiver and the kind we could be looking for to fill a 1 or 2 spot w/ Hester, until we actually draft a real one, Davis is a decent off the bench receiver at best. But we all know Angelo is a dumbass and should be fired b/c his poor choices cost us alot of losses in personal and games.

Agreed

Leonard greatly benefits from the presence of all-world Ed Reed next to his side. The fact that Rex Ryan is willing to let Leonard leave when it wouldn’t cost a great deal to bring him back to Baltimore also sends up red flags.

Rex Ryan...

For some reason I thought he was the jets coach now…

He is.

Oops

My bad. I forgot that Rex Ryan took the New York job. Still, no thanks on Leonard.

Agree ....

I’ve been saying Leonard all along. He might be undersized at 5’8" but I think the Colts have one of those guys his name is Bob Sanders. I know they’re not in the same class but whatever. Playing in the Ravens scheme he showed dicipline and speed in a much more complex scheme than the Bears, he is also a pretty good return man and is only 26. I thought Lloyd was playing great until that Eagles game and he got hurt, he sat out for a while but can you blame a guy on a one year contract not trying to ruin his chances for a longer deal ? I mean look the Bucs just cut Derrick Brooks, Eagles let Brian Dawkins go this is a business as they say but I thought Lloyd played well.

Yea Bob Sanders

is also 20 lbs bigger than Leonhard. I like JL but you have to be skeptical about how much he can produce for OUR defense especially w/ how shitty we’ve been the last couple yrs. I agree w/ ur point about Lloyd, I thought he played good and came up big in a couple of games until he got hurt. Khalif Barnes and Coles are people we should def be targetting.

....

I like Coles and would like to him opisite of Hester, split Olson out CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

No to Leonard

In the long haul he won’t be able to hold up at FS. He was very fortunate to be playing next Scott, Lewis, Reed, and Suggs. Put him in the Bears defense and he’s about 50% less effective. I heard Barnes has some baggage off the field, not sure what exactly but the Bears won’t take a chance on someone like him. I definitely like the WR idea though!

From what I saw of Leonard....

he is a play maker with great football instincts. Still young with a lot of football ahead of him.

Leonard

I’m not sure how many Ravens games you guys watched but Leonard is all over the field and can actually tackle. I like the idea of Darren Sharper in a Bears uni also.

I agree with Hub.

I saw a few Raven games. And every game I saw he stood out as a play maker. I remember saying to myself, who is this guy Leonard? He’s got the goods.

Leonard greatly benefited from playing next to all-world Ed Reed

He is nothing special as soon as he is removed from Ed Reed.

Yeah, your right.

I’m sorry. I didn’t realize you were the Nostradamus of football. Now I know.

Seriously,

can people watch games and make assessments? Also, to say a player benefits from other players …really, I guess Jim Leonard’s ability to make tackles and find the ball are a result of a psychic connection to Ed Reed.

Rex Ryan wants him in NY, so I think I’ll buy his old D-Coordinator over “He’s too small” arguments," or this other one. I prefer assessing play based on what I see, as the ultimate test. Height matters to an extent, but to dismiss solely because of his short stature?

case and point

from ESPN article/ John Clayton:

“Jim Leonhard is special,” Ryan said. "No. 1, he looks like the guy delivering papers. He really is a smart player. He has a lot of poise. He’s very sure of himself.

"For some reason he gets saddled because he’s short, but this guy’s an outstanding athlete. He won two slam-dunk contests at the University of Wisconsin. He’s an outstanding punt returner. I’ve always said he could catch a punt in a hurricane.

“He’s a smart, tough, passionate guy. You try to build your team with those kinds of players.”
