Will Ravens trade up for DHB?

Source: ESPN Insider

"The problem now for the Ravens is that Heyward-Bey, who grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, is unlikely to last until their first pick in the NFL draft at No. 26 overall. The New York Jets, Chicago Bears, Eagles and Vikings all pick ahead of the Ravens, and all are in need of an upgrade in the receiving corps. A move to one of the middle ten picks of the first round could be developed, and this would ensure the Ravens could tab Heyward-Bey if they so desired.

The 6-foot-3 Heyward-Bey seemed genuinely excited when asked about the prospects of playing for his home-state franchise, telling the Sun, "That will be great. I could go there and be a weapon for them. We [Heyward-Bey and Flacco] could grow together... write that." We'll have to wait another month to find out if the Ravens are just as excited about the youngster as he is about them."

That would be fine with me as I think he is a risky pick and could be this year's workout warrior bust.

My man,

You gotta link that up if you are getting that quote from another site.

As far as the Ravens trading up… if they think that trading up to the 18th pick would “ensure the Ravens could tab Heyward-Bey if they so desired” then thay are nuts.

No way they could be “assured” of that.

The only reason I didn't

was because it was on ESPN insider and if people didn’t have access they couldn’t read it. That is why I posted it instead.

by tfrabotta on Mar 13, 2009 9:53 AM CDT up reply actions

thats why

it would likely be a draft day trade if anything… not made unless or until the ravens know they can trade up for him. I’d just be amazed that anybody liked him enough to trade up for him. I think he is good, but I am not comfortable penciling him in as a starting #1 receiver. I would be comfortable doing so with Crab, Maclin (under protest and only due to consensus), and Harvin (Kiper just said Harvin might go #17 to the Jets).

Affirmative

i think most GMs agree with me. Can’t wait till the draft so we can see who gets drafted when.

My fear is that at 18 we are not in a position to draft elite talent. An important quality of “elite” talent is that it is obvious to most. Nothing is so obvious at #18 (for example DHB v. Harvin v. Nicks v. Maclin). Similar to ‘05 when we missed out on Ronnie Brown and drafted Benson before Cadillac… When Crab and Mac are not available at 18, the Jets at #17 are likely to draft a wr. so that leaves us to draft one of the last 2 of the top 5 receivers. What will piss me off is if that happens and the Bucs with the next pick gleefully draft the WR we did not (5 of 5) like with Cadillac. That’s one reason i want to trade up for Crabtree.

long story short the #18 pick is dog shit.
bears won’t trade for anybody because they are not willing to pay cash money $ no matter how much the player may help the team.

Not trying to give you a hard time here... well, much anyhow :)

But,

i think most GMs agree with me

Huh?

And,

An important quality of "elite" talent is that it is obvious to most.

Huh?

Oh, my bad.

My "huh"s didn’t mean that I can’t read. Sorry. It was supposed to express my confusion with those 2 statements.

I’ll elaborate a bit more so as not to confuse you again…

1- How is it that you think most GMs agree with your opinion of Harvin over DHB?

2- Why do you feel that an importnant quality for an “elite” player to have is for it to be obvious to other people? Does that mean that if a players talent isn’t obvious, then he doesn’t possess “elite” talent?

Hmmm...

1- I could never be as sexy as the Cannon.

2- I have no idea as to what you are talking about.

3- Were my questions posted above still too confusing?

Injury waiting to happen

As much as i like Harvin, his injury concerns are too much to risk in the 1st round. Couple that with the fact he doesn’t really have a set position to excell at.

No to Harvin

yes to Maclin. Would love to trade back with Ravens, take Britton from ASU and pick up their 3rd and 4th rd picks for the swap based on the points.

They apparently had... or are planning to have Joe Flacco

throw passes to DHB at DHB’s workout.

We know it's the most valuable position on the football team. We've gone through so many scenarios at that position we can write a book, moreso on what not do."

If the Ravens wanted to trade up with us, it

would cost them a 3rd and 4th.

If they wanted to trade with the Chargers, it would cost them a 2nd. The Chargers trade would make more sense, since they would move in front of 2 teams who need WRs in the Jets and Bears. The Chargers probably wouldn’t mind moving down—when I did my mock there wasn’t anyone there that was a great value for them at a need position.

I think JA would be crucified by the Bears fans if he traded down when DHB was on the board. It’s too much risj for him if DHB turned into a star. JA doesn’t like risk. He likes extra picks, but I don’t think he needs that much bad publicity right now.

I think DHB will be a bust, so I think it would be smart to not pick him, get Nicks or Britt at 26, and pick up an extra 3 and 4, but I don’t think it will happen.

Unfortunately

We don’t do smart! That is not our thing..

by tfrabotta on Mar 13, 2009 11:50 AM CDT reply actions

what about trading firsts and getting their 2nd?

as opposed to their 3rd and 4th? would they do that? would we do that? we could get the best OT/WR with their #1, and get 2 2nd rounders (OT/WR + FS).

by guy incognito on Mar 13, 2009 1:23 PM CDT reply actions

depends

on how the points add up on the draft table.

by tfrabotta on Mar 13, 2009 1:33 PM CDT up reply actions

I don't know if they would

The Ravens offense is pretty putrid. Not to mention, their Defense took some big losses. They’ll need their 1st and 2nd round picks next year. I’m surprised the Ravens are entertaining a trade up.

by McRipper on Mar 13, 2009 1:34 PM CDT up reply actions

canr really believe anything

being written nowadays..all half truths floating around..

by tfrabotta on Mar 13, 2009 1:40 PM CDT up reply actions

True

I think they are planning on bringing DHB in and having Flacco throw to him though. I don’t know about trading up to get him, but it sounds like they are definitely interested.

by McRipper on Mar 13, 2009 1:43 PM CDT up reply actions

We would get their 1st, 3rd and 4th

for our 18th, according to the draft value chart. We wouldn’t just get their 3rd and 4th.

We could potentially get them to give us their 1st and next years 2nd for #18. That’s a Patriots kind of move to make.

DEJESUS!!!

by tomas21 on Mar 13, 2009 3:26 PM CDT up reply actions

for trading up

Yes that is what I was saying, We swap 1st rd and the value is a 3rd and 4th in return per the chart. As long as they were willing to overpay a little for next yr’s 2nd I would be all for it.
