Rams Release Torry Holt
Just saw on ESPN that the Rams have officially released Torry Holt. As much as I would like JA to make a move and bring Mr. Boldin in, I think getting Holt could be just as beneficial to the team. He's only 31, I think, and could be the possession receiver we NEED and a mentor to Hester, Bennett, and whoever we draft. Go for gold!!!

He's actually 32
but don’t let detour anyone. He’s still a great player and would be a huge asset to the Bears.

Would be nice... plus, I think he has a man crush on Devin Hester.
I remember watching the Bears 2006 season DVD, when Hester took 2 kicks to the house vs the Rams. The camera kept grabbing snippets from Holt on the sidelines, raving about Hester and talkin smack with his teammates.
So, maybe he’d be the perfect fit to play opposite of Devin.

Let me edit you work there sir...
a much better more likely move than Boldin

It is a better move.
we sign Holt and don’t need to trade away draft picks. how is it not a better move?
by KtownBear on Mar 13, 2009 5:26 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Cuz Boldin
could start for the next 6 yrs? That and the fact that he’s better than Holt. I’d rather trade the picks and get Boldin, but signing Holt and keeping the draft picks is good too.

no. getting boldin and paying him 9 mil a year is a waste
he won’t be used to his abilities. we can get the production we need elsewhere and cheaper.
until we have a real qb, we have no use to top top tier wrs

Now,
when you throw in the QB issue, you may very well have a point. But, after the way Orton performed before his ankle injury, I’m not completely sure we should write him off just yet.

i'm not
i think orton is a serviceable qb who needs a strong running game and decent wide receivers. we’re more nascar than formula one. the cardinals are formula one
by tempchad on Mar 13, 2009 5:50 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That sounds like the formula of success for 90% of QBs in the league.

not at all
there are guys, who, even with those weapons will have limited success. And there are more than 9 qbs who could be successful with an average running game and good wide receivers. Orton is not one of them.

Every Sunday
There are analysts everywhere talking about the key for a team’s victory. It almost always comes down to running the ball and stopping the opponents running game. Hence, an average/fairly effective ground game opens up the play-action pass. The running game doesn’t have to average 4-5 yards a rush to be effective. There are only a few QBs in the league who can be successful with a below average running game. Brady, P. Manning, Brees, Cutler (to a lesser extent cause he had virtually no help), and obviously Warner.

kurt warner would like to have a word with you
as would drew brees and derek anderson.
so would donovan mcnabb. there are others.
by tempchad on Mar 14, 2009 7:39 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
That's because
their respective offenses are pass-happy, and designed around spreading the field with 3-4 WRs. Derek Anderson had a great running game (in ‘07), so that’s a moot point. I’ll give you McNabb though.

I agree somewhat
I like Orton and am confident he can get the job done. He does have his flaws tho. Boldin excels at turning short to medium passes into 20+ yd gains, perfect for Orton IMO.

I'm just thinking that we need more help at that position.
Holt would be a solid #2 WR for us, if not #1. If we hit a homerun in the draft with an OLineman, and Chris Williams can go 16 games, then Boldin would be a much better move… he would have more of an impact.
Hey, don’t get me wrong… I would love to have Holt for a couple of seasons… and the Bears going after Holt would probably be the more likely option. I’m just ready to see us go after a playmaker on offense.

You're thinking ideals
Come back to reality. If we sign Holt, he is our #1. Whether or not he would be a #2 elsewhere is irrelevent.
by torch on Mar 16, 2009 8:07 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
And the fact that Holt would end up being our best WR
is a dad-blame shame. That’s reality.

Holt makes entirely too much sense for JA to sign him.
We like our WRs, even though they suck donkey balls.

C'mon Jerry!
Get Virginia to loosen her tight purse strings and get Holt signed already. Like Sackman (love the name, BTW) said, he loves Devin already. Get him in here so he can help develop him and Earl “I haven’t even hardly played yet” Bennett.
I love Boldin as a player, but he seems like a Diva, and will throw a fit like he did in ‘Zona if he doesn’t get utilized the way he should, and he won’t in our offense. Holt will catch some passes, be a good leader, and play Bears football. I hope they at least make an ATTEMPT to better our team, cause the addition of Buttocks is not the answer. And Marcus Hamilton? Who’s this guy? JA, do whatever it takes to get Virginia to open the paycheck! WHATEVER IT TAKES!

According to the
nfpost.com, the Titans and Rams had agreed in priniple to a trade, but Holt wouldn’t agree to restructure his deal. This means, to me, that he didn’t want to go to the Titan.
But it also said that the Titans were the only team to call the Rams, which means we aren’t getting him. If Angelo isn’t willing to give up a 6th round pick and get an exclsuive negotiation with Holt, and at worst have him on a one year, 8 mil deal, then he isn’t going to outbid every team interested.
I F’ing hate Angelo and the McCaskeys.

Angelo's hands are tied by the McCaskeys
The McCaskey family is making it clear that they are going to keep the salary level well below the cap. The excuse they’ll use is an awful economy and the desire not to raise ticket prices. Until Virgina McCaskey passes away nothing is going to change. Heck, it could actually get worse once the McCaskey siblings take over.

Ted Phillips also deserves some blame here
He’s their financial genius and also head stooge for PR disasters like this one, so don’t forget who’s on the top of that organization’s masthead. BTW, anyone who can get the taxpayers to help foot the bill on a new stadium probably deserves the “genius” tag these dasy.

I had a strange dream last night
In it, the bears actually signed Torry Holt. so I hopped on the Gridiron to see if anyone posted the news. sure enough, there it was broad as day. everyone was pissed, even i was griping about it. I distinctly remember Sack writing “this is even worse than the Bullocks signing” We were mad because the Bears actually did something right for a change. Then I had a dream about an Elephant in my back yard, but I don’t think it has any connections with my first dream.
