DraftTek's Newest Mock Draft w/ Compensatory Picks..

I wanted to get opinions on our newest mock draft... Here are my thoughts..

1st rnd--E. Britton (OT)-- -- (They met him and worked him out privately, looks like a perfect fit at RT that could develop into a LT as well in a year)

2nd rnd----J. Inglesia--(WR Feature)  (Oklahoma guy-- you know they like this college)

3rd rnd--M. King-- (DE-- I am not too high on him, but it is what it is)

Late 3rd--R. Barden--(WRP) -- Possession receiver..

4th -- Z. Follet-- (OLB) They have actually met with this guy twice I believe..

5th--J. Davis-- (RB Feature) -- supposedly they are interested in this guy as well

6th--T. Nolan-- (FS) -- Competition and insurance for when one of the safeties we picked up get cut or hurt

7th--R. Brewster (OT)-- We are thin here, we need this guy to pan out for Depth-- JA still needs to pick up a veteran at tackly for depth

2nd 7th Round--T. Nighton (DT)-- need to strike lightening in a bottle-- Dusty in contract year, Idonje moving to DE.. good for competition and depth..

I think this hits every position of need.. only ones I am unsure is if we will actual pickup a second WR high enough.. and a RB in the fifth after signing K. Jones..
Still unsure whether they will go for a guard at any point..I feel with the signing of F. Omaye we are good at this position..

I would

like to see them take Barden or Robiskie in the 2nd. Inglesia is the same size as Bennet. We need a big possesion type WR the most. Our 3rd comp. should be used on the secondary. The 18th and 49th should be used on best available O lineman.

by luckie815 on Mar 24, 2009 7:37 AM CDT reply actions

Robiskie..

is actually taken before our 2nd draft on our site, and Barden is still available late third. Hence why the system picked him where it did. With all the safeties we picked up and moving bowman to free safety, I moved the priority down on a FS. On this site.. Britton is the best available in the 1st and Jamon Meredith is available in the second— However Meredith is not supposed to be ideal for what we are looking for…

I would prefer

Britton in the 1st (if Maclin is gone) and then Duke Robinson in the 2nd. Or go Maclin then Loadholt. Then go out and sign Torry Holt for a 1 or 2 year stop gap.

by Mike Mueller on Mar 24, 2009 8:33 AM CDT reply actions

yup

that’s the way I’m seeing it too.

by Fridge72 on Mar 24, 2009 2:19 PM CDT up reply actions

Maclin..

is actually gone in our Mock or else I would have done the Maclin-Loadholt duo. Although, they say Loadholts footwork is suspect even if he is on the right tackle side… Britton seems to a much better bet and more versatile as he could eventually play the left.

Agree on Holt

If Maclin’s there I’d be okay with:

1. Maclin
2. Loadholt
3. Lawrence Sidbury, DE (Richmond)
3. Kraig Urbik, G (Wisconsin) or Trevor Canfield, G (Cincinatti)
4. David Bruton, S (Notre Dame) or Sherrod Martion, S (Troy)

Considering Maclin probably won’t be there, I agree with you and wish they’d sign Torry Holt. Then they’d have a bit more freedom to go with something like this:

1. Britton
2. Louis Delmas, FS Western Michigan
3. Lawrence Sidbury, DE Richmond
3. Kraig Urbik, G Wisconsin or Trevor Canfield, G Cincinatti
4. Jason Williams, LB Western Illinois or a big possession receiver that can develop for a few years behind Holt – like Ramses Barden (6-6, 230) Cal Poly or Marko Mitchell, Nevada (6-4, 220) in the 5th

At OG and DE, there obviously needs to be improvement but there’s gaping holes at RT, FS, and WR. I think they need to be addressed first. If they could get a starter at one of those positions through FA (Holt at WR, or someone like Kevin Shaffer at RT) then there’s atleast the possibility we could get starters out of the first 2 rounds and be competitive this year instead of only building for the future.

The Bears are reaching

with their first 3 picks and I think they can do better; I like the later picks starting with WR Barden. I think I would prefer a FB or an OG with the 5th rounder, rather than add another RB.

by gillrowdy on Mar 24, 2009 9:01 AM CDT reply actions

Based on our needs.. that kind of how it shook out..

for the first three rounds.. I was thinking OG as well not so much FB.. but F. Omaye we have quite a bit of guards..

There was also an article on Bear Report stating that they were quite interested in the Davis kid from Clemson..

Agree with gillrowdy

Juaquin in the 2nd round is a HUGE reach. I assume you mean Mitch King in the third, and that’s again another big stretch. I do like the Barden pick in the 3rd; his huge frame would be a nice target for Orton.

Don't hate on Juaquin...

you are just mad because he played at Oklahoma. And Anson, what’s wrong with the Bears liking Oklahoma, it’s a good school, I’m already planning on buying a Chicago Bradford jersey.

by chase17 on Mar 24, 2009 3:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Uhm...

Wow.

Obviously, Sooners have a short memory span. Remember the WR breakdown when I said I liked Iglesias? Go back and read it.

If you truly think he’s a 2nd round pick, you’re more delusional than I thought.

I'M A MAN! I'M 22!

by ChiFan13 on Mar 24, 2009 3:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed.

I wouldn’t say he’s a 2nd round pick, but the WR are definately moving up the board. See Nicks/Britt/Robiskie.

by Jacob Hayes on Mar 24, 2009 4:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Wait...

weren’t you one of the guys who was like, if Colt McCoy had the same talent around him as a Sam Bradford he would put up similar numbers. Well Iglesias was his #1 receiver last season, but now it’s Iglesias isn’t good enough for a second round pick. That sounds like backtracking to me.

by chase17 on Mar 24, 2009 5:37 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah right around there..

we got him at #58 or a low 2nd rnd pick..

Anson Abraham Bears Draft Tek Correspondent

by anson on Mar 24, 2009 8:30 PM CDT up reply actions

I wouldn't mind Iglesias

as a second round pick. Can I just disagree with your assessment, and not be delusional?

by tomas21 on Mar 24, 2009 5:22 PM CDT up reply actions

Ha, Nothing wrong at all Oklahoma..

I would say getting the Bradford jersey might not be the end of the world if they don’t get it together here at some point..

by anson on Mar 24, 2009 8:29 PM CDT up reply actions

Not according to our big board...

Juaquin is just a 4 spot reach.. Mitch King is a big reach.. I agree. Though the Bears have been know to reach for guys if they think they are the right fit… Forte, Briggs, Bauzine, Wolfe.. Not that they all work out but they reach unnecessarily sometimes…

In your WR writeup

you put Iglesias as a second-third round pick. Why is he now a HUGE reach? He had a decent combine, as good as Britt or Nicks who are now considered possible selections for the Bears in the first round.

And that would be a terrific point

except for the fact that 1) I wrote that prior to when the WR’s worked out and 2) Things change with every prospect. Take a look at some of my predictions for prospect’s draft selections….some of the early ones are just terrible at this point.

Iglesias is a good prospect; he’s not great. Saying that someone had a good combine such as _ or _ elite prospect doesn’t mean anything. Numbers are not always everything in a prospect. I really don’t believe he’s a 2nd round pick. Third round? For sure.

I'M A MAN! I'M 22!

by ChiFan13 on Mar 24, 2009 10:41 PM CDT up reply actions

He's

for sure a third round pick but a HUGE reach in the second round, so much so that you think one would have to be delusional to take him there? I don’t get that.

If things change—what changed with him? Everything I heard about him since your post has been excellent or at least very good. He ran a 4.5, which is good enough for him. He was always described as more quick and sudden than fast, so the 4.5 doens’t hurt him. He caught the ball well at the combine and his pro day. He has no off the field issues. He didn’t show up fat.

I don’t see anything changing with him. Let me know what has changed for you.

by tomas21 on Mar 25, 2009 8:40 AM CDT up reply actions

Ok....

so, you’re going after me because I called chase delusional? I mean, both him and I are delusional at times….we like our Big XII football and we’re both homers. We banter back and forth; that’s just what rivals do. But, if you want to go after me, so be it.

1) He ran a 4.54, that was good on him. He also had a 34 1/2" vertical, not exactly stellar. Is it enough to drop him down? It’s a concern, but not a draft killer.

2) The WR’s around him are moving up, not down. DHB, Nicks (until recently), and Kenny Britt are all considered late 1st – middle 2nd picks. Brian Robiskie might even sneak in that group with his combine performance. Before you get all mad and compare Robiskie and Iglesias, don’t. The only knock on Robiskie was his lack of top-end speed. He ran a decent (not great) time at 4.59, so now he’s flyin up boards. Iglesias also has a major case of fumbling. To be fair, he did get better this year, but it’s still a concern.

Here’s how the draft selections break down thus far:

#1-32 – 1st round

#33-64 – 2nd round (Bears draft the 49th selection in the 2nd)

#65+ – 3rd round

We’re in the mid-2nd round. If you truly believe that we’d be better off with the 8th or 9th WR in the 2nd, I suppose that’s your call. I’m just saying that’s a reach. We can’t afford reaches when we have this many holes.

I'M A MAN! I'M 22!

by ChiFan13 on Mar 25, 2009 9:47 AM CDT up reply actions

I'm not coming after you

but if you are going to attack people’s opinions, I think you should have some way to back it up, especially if your attacks contradict what you have previously stated.

You had Iglesias as a second round pick. Now you say you’d be delusional to want him in the second round, and he’d be a HUGE reach there, but he’d be a fine pick in the third.

I just want to know what changed. All you’ve given me is that he didn’t have a great vertical leap at the combine, and he used to have a fumbling problem (I didn’t see any fumbles in his stat sheet this year on espn.com). That doesn’t seem worthy of a one round grade demotion. If it is, then Nicks should lose a round for being fat, and Britt should lose a round for being a bad character guy, Heyward-Bey and Robiskie should lose a round for not being productive, and Crabtree should lose a round for being hurt (and possibly slow). I’m being facetious, but those seem like as big of red flags to me as a mediocre vertical leap.

As far as guys moving up, there seems to be a truth by concensus among draftniks that has nothing to do with reality. If someone moves up one guys board, he’ll move up everyone’s boards, and he’ll keep moving up until he couldn’t possibly move up farther. Nicks started out the off-season as a second or third round pick, and now he’s a mid first rounder, but didn’t do anything particularly more impressive than Iglesias, he’s just more hyped right now.

I don’t have a problem with you considering Iglesias a third round pick, but I do take issue when people imply others are stupid or ignorant when most of their own opinion is based on other people’s opinions.

Wait tho

Re your initial paragraph: One of the great things about being human is that we’re reflexive….we can change our opinions. You seem to be saying that I can be bashed for having an opinion a month ago and changing it. That doesn’t make sense, especially in this context. Michael Oher and Andre Smith were both considered a Top-5 pick….bash the people for changing their opinions of them then.

You’re right, I do believe that Iglesias would now be a reach in the 2nd. I’m sorry, we have a ton of holes to fill this year. We can’t afford to be “reaching” for people….we need to get as much value out of our picks as possible. Not only that, but don’t put words in my mouth. I said that he would be a late 2nd round – early 3rd prospect. Now, I believe that he’s going to go in the 3rd.

Why do I think he’s a 3rd round prospect? Mostly due to supply and demand. There is a pretty deep WR prospect pool this year. I see Crabtree, Maclin, Harvin, and DHB being first round locks. Nicks will slip down draft boards due to putting on 14 pounds and scoring low on the Wonderlic, although I can’t see him slipping past our 2nd round pick. Britt, IMO, is a 2nd rounder. Will some team bite on Iglesias in the 2nd? Maybe, maybe not. Who knows. We’ll find out soon enough. But I believe he’s a reach in the 2nd, and I definitely do not want the Bears drafting him at our original 2nd round slot.

Now, regarding my comments to chase, we both go back and forth with one another. We’re fans of rival schools, it’s to be expected. At least on my end, it’s more meant for humor than anything, and I assume it’s the same for him. I don’t take anything he says personally and I hope he doesn’t either. However, if chase is truly upset about what I said, I will apologize to him.

BTW – I’ve seen Iglesias’s play enough to not need other’s opinions to validate my own.

I like the first 2 picks.

Britton would be a nice RT upgrade, and Iglesias looks to me like one of the safer WRs out there—good hands, runs clean routes, no off the field stuff, fast enough. Probably won’t be a superstar, but could be a Derrick Mason.

I don’t see Ramses Barden being much of anything.

I’d rather take a FS in the third than Barden. There might be someone with some talent left in the third.

We are stacked at saftety position...

at least with bodies not necessarily quality.. Also they haven’t been interested in the top prospects as of recent actually they have been late rounders in the 5th and 6th at safety…
