How about a little Braylon Edwards?

According to some sources he's available/being shopped.

Star-divide

I wouldn't offer a 1st rounder, but a 2nd would be OK with me.  He drops a lot of passes, but 2 years ago he had 80 receptions, 1289 yards, and 16 touchdowns.   Or maybe a 3rd rounder and a player.   If the price is our 1st rounder, I pass.  JA would probably pass too.

Is a change of scenery and getting out of Cleveland what he needs to regain his form? or is he a "rich man's" Rashied Davis?

If he's a Rich Man's

Rashied Davis is a Poor Man’s Rashied Davis a receiver with no hands?

If things came easy, then everybody would be great at what they did, let's face it.

You know,

I read your comment 24 times, and never did figure out what the hell you were saying there. :)

No armed receiver

might actually be better than Sheed. He would be more motivated, and may be adept at catching with his knees/chin.

I think it would

be tough to agree on value for Edwards, considering how vastly different his production has been the last 2 years. Cleveland is going to want compensation based on his 07 season, and everyone is going to want to give them compensation based on his 08 season.

Word is they were asking the Giants for either a WR or a D lineman plus a pick for Edwards. I think they wanted either Steve Smith (not the good Steve Smith) or Mathias K. If the Bears take a DE on the first day, maybe OGun or Anderson for Edwards could be done.

Considering he’s in a contract year, I don’t think I’d give more than a 3rd round pick for him. He’s going to cost a lot to extend.

DEJESUS!!!

I got it and that's funny.

I just want to see them get someone to help at WR no matter what. I do like Braylon Edwards but your right on the price.

by Bears fan 4-ever!!! on Mar 27, 2009 2:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'd def trade a 2nd and possibly a 4th

Then we’d have Hester, Bennett, and Edwards along w/ Olsen, Forte, and Clark. Orton would be great w/ this. After the trade, trade down to the later 1st/ early 2nd in the draft and load up on some young talent.

I'll be the guy with the contrary opinion this time...

I don’t want Edwards in a Bears uniform. He’s not a locker room “cancer”, but he’s definately not the “lead by example” veteran you’d like to have. He does have an issue with keeping his hands soft and supple instead of turning to granite.

I’d rather have Britt/Robiskie/Nicks in that order.

Why that order?

I think Britt is the best combination of production/polish/skill set and could very well be the next Moss/TO WR in the league.

Robiskie is second because he doesn’t have some of the upside that Britt does, so while he might not be the next Moss/TO, he is extremely developed already. He doesn’t require a ton of coaching to reach his potential. So while he might not be a Moss/TO caliber, I definately think he can be a Derrick mason level WR.

Nicks is third because I think he’s got more potential than Robiskie, but has a lot less polish, and is going to need coaching to get to the top of his game as well as stay in shape. He’s more ready to start than DHB, and while he doesn’t have as much boom potential, I also think he’s less likely to bust.

wait

You wouldn’t want Edwards, who is proven as an NFL receiver even if he’s not a “lead by example veteran”, but you want Britt, whose work ethic and character have come into question by scouts?

by thecoolest on Mar 28, 2009 2:06 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes.

Britt would still be a rookie, and could still grow up to be a better man than Edwards is.

Britt also hasn’t had hands of stone issues like Edwards has. As far as work ethic goes, the one picture I saw on the offical forums of the guy says while he may have possible character issues that haven’t been gone into alot, he definately doesn’t have work ethic issue. The guy was absolutely ripped.

by Sklz711 on Mar 28, 2009 2:53 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

contract year

drops his value. that being said, if we could get him for a 3rd, we’d be crazy not to. yeah, he had the dropsies last year, but he clearly is one of the most talented WRs in the nfl, and he’s proven it before. again, contract year means he’s worth less, but if they’d trade him for a 3rd (maybe a 2nd), i’d do it in a second.

by guy incognito on Mar 27, 2009 5:23 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

iirc,

earlier in the off-season, there were reports that the Browns wouldn’t trade him for anything less than a first. If we could get him for a 2nd, I would be ecstatic.

Braylon Edwards won't happen

First, he’d definitely cost a first round pick. Second, the guy is labeled as a malcontent. We’re better served using the #18 pick on something else.

exactly!

why wait for a drafted receiver to develop in two years when you could get a young receiver who’s already hit his stride? he had a bad year yes, but that’s a chance you take on a guy who caught 16 TD’s the previous year.
