In-Thread Protocol
WCG-ers,
Next in our series of tutorials is the in-thread protocol. Again, this isn't meant to be from the moderating police. It is meant as a tutorial for the newbies and a refresher for the old-timers.
If there is anything else you all want me to run through, please let me know!
OPTIONS
This is pretty simple. You have three options here: hit "up," click "reply" or hit the "actions" button.
UP - If it's a really in-depth thread, it can be difficult to see who responded to who and the like. Hitting the "up" button will transport you to the original comment.
REPLY - For the love of everything holy, PLEASE hit the reply button when responding to someone! When you don't hit the reply button or simply forget to do so, your comment is left-justified. Most people can figure out who you were replying to, but if there are numerous conversations in a thread, it can get confusing.
If you can only take one thing from this tutorial, use the reply button every time. Everyone screws up once in a while, but if you're a habitual hater of the reply button (looking at you, GeoMak), it becomes a pain for all the readers to follow along.
ACTIONS - If you hit this button, you have two options: flag and recommend.
Recommend - The recommend button is pretty self-explanatory: If you think a comment is funny or incredibly insightful, recommend it. If it gets three recommends, it turns green.
Flag - This one is important. If a comment is derogatory or goes against the community guidelines, hit "flag." You may need to temporarily allow pop-ups if you have the setting on your Internet browser. Once you can allow pop-ups, a box will appear and you have three options: Spam, Troll, and Inappropriate. You all know what spam is, a troll is someone (usually from another site) trying to incite our fellows members, and hopefully anything that is inappropriate is cleared up by the site guidelines.
Please do not be afraid to flag a comment or post! If it's particularly bad, shoot one of us an email. Usually, I'm consistently around my computer on weekends, so if something comes up on the weekends, email me.
REPLYING TO A COMMENT
You hit the reply button? Good! Now let's look at what you can do once you have your text box open.
BOLD - Self-explanatory. If you want to bold some of your writing, highlight it and hit the "B" button.
ITALICS - If you want to italicize some of your writing, highlight it and hit the crooked "I" button.
STRIKETHROUGH - Usually not used except in humor situations, but I'll explain it anyways. Again, highlight your text, hit the "S" with the line through it.
BLOCK QUOTE - This one can be incredibly useful, but sometimes the formatting gets screwed up. The easiest way I've found is to paste what you have into the box, then highlight it and hit the quotations-looking thing.
LINKS - If you want to create a link embedded in the text like this, highlight the text you want to link. Click the chain-looking icon and paste the website address. If you don't want GeauxBears to have a stroke, you'll also have to click "Open in New Window."
PICTURES - This is about the only one that needs to be explained. Adding a picture in a thread is different than adding one in a FanPost.
If you have a picture that you want to use, get the URL of the link and copy or cut it. Hit the far right button (the tree), then paste the URL in there. Your picture will now show up.
If you do post a picture, MAKE SURE IT'S APPROPRIATE! We've had to take down some pictures recently, so make sure it's up to par with the community guidelines.
This FanPost was written by a Windy City Gridiron member, and does not necessarily reflect the ideas or opinions of its staff or community.

Reply button
I almost always use the reply button. I am now using a different computer, which seem to work better. On my last time on the old computer I watched as my reply was fine during the preview and then dropped to the bottom when it posted.
It should be a lot better now with my second computer.
Good things
It was more just meant to be a joke for you, but I’m glad to hear you have a 2nd computer meow.
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
Meow? Meow!
I could say meow… I could call em a…..
"I am Kyles mom , I support him but I don't believe in him"- GeauxBears
I
didn’t take it personally. The next time my “computer” guy comes over I’m going to have him figure it out (I’m pretty stupid in that department). For now I am using my second computer.
So Sorry!!
I think I know who this post was for! I think I understand now…thanks for your teachings ChiFan13, the last thing I wanna do is get everyone in an uproar! (I had NO idea how important that reply button was!)
Thanks again for giving me the low-down…LOL! I Will Comply!!
Oh no, it wasn't specifically meant for anyone
Just a tutorial for you newbies and a refresher for the old-timers. :)
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
Gotcha!
I saw my post being used as an example and thought, oh no! I like the tips, sometimes I need them (as you can see!)
You don't need to know! Just Copy!
I posted this Cutler blog on the Trib web site 2 days ago! Read Rick Morreseys article in todays Trib.
I got to admit he got all my points right and in the order I put them. Mixed around some words and phrases. But the concept was briallantly plagerized :)
Although he did somehow miss the talking point about the OL! Prob because when I sent the blog Shaffer wasn’t official yet. Today that free agent signing is old news and he couldn’t use my OL part in todays article and sound timely.
Cutler to the Bears ???
He had one pro bowl season and has an Under .500 W/L record, … which automatically makes him a football diva at the ripe old age of 25. Right?
This kid doesn’t know when to shut up. He’s not smart enough yet to realize that the guys that sign the Front of his paycheck call the shots.
How much respect do you think this kid has lost in his own Locker Room???
What kind of attitude has he shown?
"That’s it! I’m outa here!" … Is this Your idea of a leader?
If he had any competitive class and confidence in his abilities at all, …how about this response? ….. "Yea! BRING IT Baby!!"
So? Who needs a 25 year old "Ego with skin stretched over it"??
This kids agent has already hinted at a 25 Mil Guarantee. That kind of realy blows-up our cap space of just under 30 Mil.
But, Hey! We don’t need that money at all! We will probably have to give up our 1st & 2nd draft picks this year or at least a 1st and 3rd. … You only need 30 Mil if your going to sign those top elite draft picks and only if you want to build for the future.
We have Three guys at the two OT position that have a combined, … hold on now … ONE pro NFL start.
Wow!
We can use one of our remaining picks, … say a #5 or #6 pick right here.
WR position has a fast db doing OJT as a WR. Who would, in reality, only be a #3 journeyman on any other team, … and our Big Hope at WR is a ’08 rookie that has ZERO pro NFL catches! Ttttthat’s All Folks!
Now WR is the priority position, and we have been saving that valuable and remaining #4 pick just for it! Yes Sir! That is Smart. … or
… Maybe we really need to keep them top draft picks and that 30 Mil cap space if our roster has more starting holes to fill than the Titanic had??
Cry Baby Cutler is gona see the OL and WR corps and "Cry us a River" before he demands to be traded again.
So, We have gone full circle now, …
Cutler to the Bears???

Yup!
You are correct!
Right Church; Wrong Pew! :)
Maybe you can make one more tutorial...
On making a dominant FanShot. This isn’t really a problem on this particular SBN site, however, it does get sloppy on a few others. Just a thought…
