Woe to the Enemy of These Bears of Mine. (A poem)
WCG's Final Word: We are not having this arguement here and now, because there is no arguement to be had. I'm leaving the post because I do not believe Haight's intentions were malicious. He was not tryng to pass this off as completely his own work.
That said is it a matter of legality that we link to all sources. If you post anything from a Jay Cutler rumor to a recipe for Lobster Bisque you must provide the source. I am sure if there are any of Mr. Gurney's descendants still roaming the Earth they are not going to come after us, but it is still required. That goes for all of us. If you see ChiFan, GB or myself not link feel free to call us out.
Thanks
WCG Note: Poem is based on the poem "The Target" by Ivor Gurney.
They buried them and it had to be. Thine enemy is crushed, twas them or us.
They had to die and none can blame, all who oppose will get the same.
The enemy, he can't sleep for fear, of what is going to happen here.
Oh the brutality, perhaps it is best, to die and set his fears at rest.
For worst is worst, and worry's done. Take comfort knowing, your not the only one.
Yet God keeps still and does not interfere, it had to be by the hand of the Bear.
Of these Bears of mine, the enemy will find. we have been chosen to conquer all of man kind.
Now see who reaps defeat the worst, there is no chance, you are doomed, you are cursed.
All in a days work, this is our job, it is over for you, no more pain, no more sobs.
And God he takes no sort of heed, this is a bloody mess indeed.

"A lot of fans were drawn to me because they knew that whatever the score was, I was going to run as hard as I could on every play. You don't have that now, you have guys waiting for next week or even next year." - Walter Payton
Completely homer limerick for Haight
There once was a team from Chi town
For fear of the sight of them, foe’s pants turned brown
They scored in every which way
Opponents rued the day
And the Bears were left wearing the crown

Is this surprising?
Why you got to get all indignant now?
Besides you call it incorrect grammar I call it creative license.

Hey, it was good enough for me to wreck it...
Hell, I hope it gets engreeninated…

This
is at least partial plagiarism of an Igor Buerney poem. some of the lines in this are copied verbatim. Not sure if you made any of this on your own or if this is just an amalgamation of various poems.
I shot him, and it had to be
One of us "Twas him or me.
’Couln’t be helped’ and none can blame
Me, for you would do the same
My mother, she cant sleep for fear
Of what might be a-happening here
To me. Perhaps it might be best
To die, and set her fears at rest
For worst is worst, and worry’s done.
Perhaps he was the only son. . .
Yet God keeps still, and does not say
A word of guidance anyway.
Well, if they get me, first I’ll find
That boy, and tell him all my mind,
And see who felt the bullet worst,
And ask his pardon,if I durst.
All’s a tangle. Here’s my job.
A man might rave, or shout, or sob;
And God He takes takes no sort of heed.
This is a bloody mess indeed.

The point is
if you are copying someone else’s work, you should give them credit, otherwise you are implying it is your own.

Just a little break from the norm tomas....
a little break from the usual. No need to get your panties in a bunch. If your offended, I’m not sorry, who cares. I think your just a hater, who doesn’t have anything better to do than hate on people who you wish you could be like. Why don’t you go harass Wierd Al Yankovic.

I didn't get anything in bunch
You tried to pass of a poem as your own, I pointed out that it was plagiarized. You asked what the point was, I told you what the point was. You apparently don’t think plagiarism is a big deal, some people do.
Also:
Your is the possessive: Is that your poem?
You’re is short for You Are: You’re a plagiarist
It’s more obvious that you are (or you’re) plagiarizing if you use thid grade grammar when defending yourself.
DEJESUS!!!
I'll have to defend Haight (?!)...
only on one thing though: he never actually said it was his own. Granted, it is always very important to cite your sources, especially when taking direct quotes or text. But, since he never actually said it was his own (and who knows if he was implying it), we can’t completely say that was his intent. But yes, to not cite sourses is plagerism.
That aside… +1 on the grammar lesson. ChiFan will be gratetful.

Two things:
1) plagiarism, not plagerism :)
2) In my book, it doesn’t matter if he intended to copy sections from the poem; it’s still plagiarism. Plagiarism is passing other’s work as your own, whether intended or not. Had he done what WCG added at the top of the poem, it wouldn’t have been a problem.
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
RE: Two things:
1) Kiss MY arse.
2) I SAID it was plagiarism, so you OBVIOUSLY missed MY point. I was SAYING that haight never SAID it was HIS… he just didn’t CITE his source.

Two things again
1) sources, not sourses :)
2) How can you defend Haight when it’s clearly plagiarism? Explain that one, preferrably with Lombardi trivia.

1) That WAS so 2 posts AGO.
2) Here is WHAT I was DEFENDING:
You tried to pass of a poem as your own
He NEVER SAID it was HIS OWN ANYWHERE in the POST. He just didn’t CITE his SOURCES. AND you are TOTALLY CLUELESS as to ANYTHING about VINCE LOMBARDI. He NEVER would have stood for THIS.

He's not
making up rules. You can’t post something and not cite a source. There are legalities involved in doing that. I know Haight didn’t say that it was his work, but the original source of work still should have been credited. ChiFan is just trying to keep this site up and running and not having it shut down because people are posting others work without saying where it came from. I was guilty of it when I first came on here and I understand where he is coming from. So cut ChiFan a break, he is volunteering his time to help make this site great for all of us.

I didn't say anything about what the site represents.
I’m talking about you trying to make me look like some kind of criminal, and you are out of line.
FYI, that poem was an assignment in college from my literature professor 12 years ago. He had a method he liked to use to gauge his students views on life and the world around them. By having his students pick out a poem that was important to them in subject matter and using that poem as a frame or a spring board and alter that poem to express something we believed in or felt strongly about.
By doing this, the class learned a great deal about ourselves and each other. It was one of my favorite assignments in that class. He was not teaching us how to plagiarize, but helping us to see who we were.
I am fascinated with the reality of war which is why I chose The Target. When a man goes to war, nothing else matters. A man has to be completely at peace with dying and confident that he has lived a life worthy of meeting his maker. If a man has fear of dying and not sure if he is worthy of heaven than he is an ineffective soldier and puts all around him in jeopardy.
And then, there are my Bears! I got an A+
You can threaten my all you want with your all powerful authority to erase and delete, who cares. Your making a big deal out of nothing , why? because you can?

I got a huge problem with this
When a man goes to war, nothing else matters. A man has to be completely at peace with dying and confident that he has lived a life worthy of meeting his maker. If a man has fear of dying and not sure if he is worthy of heaven than he is an ineffective soldier and puts all around him in jeopardy.
First off I’m a member of the United States Military and think that I have every right on god’s green earth to explain why I found the above quote to be garbage.
1. I’ll never be at completely at peace with dying. I shouldn’t have to be. Yes once you step foot on the battle field you need to make sure that you are right in your heart and mind. You have to take care of the mission first and yes your life is expendable for the greater good.
2. Having fear of dying is natural and in no way makes someone an ineffective Soilder, Airman, Sailor or Marine, nor does that fact put others lives in jeopardy. What it does is make that individual focus and concentrate more on the task at hand so it is completely as effectively and safely as possible with a minimum of casualties.
3. War is facinating if you aren’t being shot at. Other than that war is hell and people die.
If things came easy, then everybody would be great at what they did, let's face it.

I stated my opinion as a God fearing man.
You stated your opinion, and I fully respect how you look at it, I have no problem with how you feel. Ask 100 people how they feel about war and you will get 100 different opinions. I don’t think I would have a HUGE problem with any of them. When people talk about war and how they feel about it, you learn a lot about that person and their views on life, politics, religion etc… Just because I don’t agree with a mans religion like say, Muslim, doesn’t mean that I have a HUGE problem with his opinions. I respect that man because he believes in something, and may be willing to die for it.

Sorry to intervene here, but this topic needs to take a different direction. Ditkavs and you have both made your points, and this is a great time to take it in a different direction.
Thanks to both of you for being mindful in your responses…
Haight, if you have a problem with ChiFan, I am not discouraging that dialogue. But at least consider, that if more needs to be said about his decisions, then emailing him or WCG would probably be more appropriate than airing it out on the blog.
Thanks for (hopefully) understanding.

I said what I had to. No problem with ChiFan, just wanted him to know where I’m coming from. I’m done.

I fully respect
your right to have an opinion, I just don’t have to like it. I understand how a God fearing man would say that he isn’t afraid of dying, has no fear and all that since you are at peace and know what your final reward will be. But as a God fearing man myself I still am allowed to be afraid.
I also know that if you ask 100 people about how they feel about war you’ll get 100 different answers. But I’ve come to find in my 12 years of service that the ones who “love” and run their mouths about war, are the ones who have never picked up a weapon or witnessed the horrors of war. And to be honest with you that’s annoying.
If things came easy, then everybody would be great at what they did, let's face it.

bears fan since 83
but in college 12 years ago?
you talk a lot of s about being a warrior and a hard core fan for a guy not even one for his entire life.
Oh, so let me guess...
You were born at Soldier Field with a Butkis jersey on. Your first words were Go Bears. You were a fan since infancy? BS. Not until you made the conscience, deliberate decision to chose to follow the Bears, did you become a Bear fan. I have a very hard time believing that anyone is BORN a Bear fan. I was 8 years old, I don’t think anyone can become a fan in infancy. That is ridiculous.

You do understand where I'm coming from though?
An infant does not have the mental capacity to chose to be a Bear fan.

Even though you (and pretty much everybody else) don’t like me here I have to HONESTLY say this:
A). Sometimes I think you’re kinda delusional about the Bears and should maybe have to pee in a cup before you post.
AND
B). I TOTALLY RESPECT YOU!!! Really! Sometimes you amuse me and sometimes you irritate me me but I TOTALLY respect you for your “Bear Passion.”
I mean this in the sincerest way possible. You have my total respect!
(The Bears should put you on the payroll)!
Geo, let me be very clear.
We all have disagreements but none should ever be personal. I have never taken anything personal between you and I. It is all in good fanhood, at least from my side.
You said, “even though you don’t like me here”, that is very far from the truth. See people like you make this place fun, you have your views and you are unique in your own way. You make bold statements and state opinions as facts and no one can tell you differently, that’s great, sometimes frustrating but that is who you are, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I come on here because it is fun, I enjoy logging on to WCG, I enjoy sharing with others about my team. Just because we disagree doesn’t mean we should not like each other. People like you bring color to WCG.
Now you have to understand that I too am unique, see I enjoy when people attack me and call me names, it is a great time for me, sometimes I have to provoke people in order to get them to call me derogatory names and to tell me how much of a jerk I am, good times! I love it when people just blatantly attack me out of the blue without being provoked, then it is on, and I have my fix for the day.
We are fans of the Bears. I am me and you are you, don’t ever change for anyone, stick to your guns and keep being you. Much respect!

You are defintely one-of-a-kind
If you are ever in Phoenix when the Bears are playing, look me up. I would be HONORED to take you to a Bear/Cardinal game.
( I was supposed to go to that infamous “Denny Green” game in 2006. My best friend (like me originally from the south suburbs) was then living in Florida. Since he had never visited me in Phoenix, he was going to fly out and finally visit me in Arizona and we were going to go to that game. He backed out at the end and didn’t come.
He has unlimited long-distance so for that game (like most others) we talked to each other on the phone as we watched the entire game.
True Story: He’s a real pessimist. He had the Bears losing by halftime. Honestly, he was driving me CRAZY. Almost every play was the end of the world to him. I’m an optimist (believe it or not). I kept telling him that even though the Bears were playing like S**T, they were playing the Cardinals. I know from living here for 14 years how badly they are capable of choking. I kept trying to keep his spirits up. It wasn’t easy, but I prevailed. I kept telling him (during and afterwards) that in the NFL, it isn’t over until it’s over (especially when you’re playing the then hapless Cardinals).
