WCG Mock Draft - The Green Bay Packers Select...

CURRENT SELECTION

Brian Orakpo
Texas
Linebacker

ANALYSIS:   Green Bay can go a number of different directions with this pick. Malcolm Jenkins, Brian Orakpo, Everette Brown….all would fill some sort of need. With that said, I believe Green Bay will go with Brian Orakpo from Texas.

None of the other prospects save one really make sense at this point. Malcolm Jenkins was slower than expected at the combine, Vontae Davis would be too much of a reach at this point, and Aaron Maybin doesn’t possess the bulk that Orakpo has. Everette Brown is a sensible pick, but I believe Orakpo will have an easier transition to the 3-4. And, to be frank, Rak is a freakishly strong individual.

Orakpo fills a definite need for the Packers: an aggressive pass-rushing OLB. Texas fiddled with Orakpo at both DE and OLB last year at times. He’s extremely strong, possesses a motor that never quits, and plays smart (doesn’t run himself out of plays). He struggled at times with hand placement and snap anticipation, but coaching can easily alleviate those problems.

pressure on first pick

how much pressure is on the first pick of any team.is he looked upon as a saviour or an overpriced burden on the salary cap.is he looked upon as a pariah if he holds out for more money or a good guy if he takes what is offered and is proud to wear the colours.personnaly i like the guy instantly if he is just proud to play for the the team

Orakpo will eventually be a DE

IMO, anyway, his frame will fill out more and he will become a solid DE. Im not knocking the pick, because he can play pass-rush OLB for 1-2 years. But I would rate him as the best DE prospect of this draft.
