Coles to Bengals
And another one bites the dust. While I was never on board with getting Housh, b/c of the amount he wanted. I was for us getting Coles, for both experience and leadership. He would be that perfect veteran we need to help out receivers like Davis, Bennett and Hester to overcome their flaws. But now sadley he is gone and we will hafta rely on one more scrub player that other teams dont want. We our currently $34 mil under the cap if I remember and $7 mil a year isnt a bad deal for a player that I feel was much better than Moose. Anyways theres one more down and we continue to look the same. Go Bears

Coles would have been great,
but, alas….

The time is this week
Hopefully Angelo snaps out of his stupor soon because this team won’t cut it. It sure looks as if he’ll pick the scraps off of some other team’s heap again this year. Orton has got to be talking to himself…“when will I get a weapon or two offense?”

Nah, Orton doesn't know what's going on...
He’s drowning out his sorrows in JD.

Being Chicago's GM
has to be the easiest job in the world.
“THE DUMMIES GUIDE TO BEING THE BEARS GM”
1) After an over-achieving 9-7 season throw your coach and QB under the bus.
2) Preach about the QB being the most urgent need to this team when everybodyelse clearly sees that it is not.
3) During FA, when there are valuable players who can contribute and make your team better, sign a career backup, sit back, do nothingelse and relax.
4) Expect every player you draft, rounds 1-7 to play like NFL veterans and make your team a SB contender.
Now you’re getting paid millions to do absolutely nothing. AWESOME!!!

Just to add to one of those
2) Preach about the QB being the most urgent need and then only bring in a QB that was on some other teams’ practice squad.

but we're gonna have all this cap space
which will allow us to sign all the 3rd and 4th stringers we want. ok, sarcasm aside, i’m cool with not overpaying for players. but we have huge needs, and a lot of change to throw around…why have we done virtually nothing????

Did anyone read his answers on chibears.com?
Here is the link. If anything else, he’s certainly a smart man.

HA...
that article was hilarious
“He did a nice job [in 2008]. But let’s not forget who he was with. He was with the New England Patriots; a pretty good football team with a good supporting cast and a great system. Is that guy going to be the same guy in another system with different personnel around him?”
Did he pretty much say that our offensive talent sucks, because that is what I got from this quote.

nope
roster updates don’t go into the offseason. those deals are only going to come up on Madden 2010.

Lance Moore is
still available for a second round pick and a front loaded contract. He could be a system guy, but he could also be a young TJ Housh.
I don’t think it matters. I think Angelo is avoiding any FA moves because he doesn’t know what kind of system next year’s coach will want to run.

He's obviously a very conservative GM
He won’t want to give up a 2nd rounder for a marginal #2 WR.

I was gonna comment
on Moore’s height but Welker is 5’9" as well. I wouldn’t mind having him but definitely not for a second round pick.

He caught like 80 passes and
10 TDs last year. That’s better than any 2nd round WR will do, probably until at least 2-3 years into their career. He did it in a better system than ours, but most of his passes were in the short to intermediate range, which is one thing Orton can do.
To me, the only downside is that he’d need a bigger contract than a second rounder would get. But we certainly have the room. But again, i think part of the reason JA isn’t doing anything is he is waiting to see what kind of system next year’s head coach wants to run.

I don't see how Lovie could get canned
And JA still keep his job. I’ve loved Lovie since I saw his press-conference when he got the job. Honestly, how can you expect him to work wonders w/ the talent we’ve had. He got us to the Super Bowl in ‘06. We release Thomas Jones and let a key component of our D-line go in Tank Johnson. In ’07, Rex fails from the start, our offensive line and entire defense regress, and Cedric Benson doesn’t live up to expectations. We let our only two receivers, Moose and Berrian go, and sign an over-the-hill Booker and troublesome Lloyd to replace them. In ‘08 we did better than expected and had a legitimate shot at the playoffs. Now we’ve signed abosolutely NOBODY and we expect Lovie to somehow make us better b/c that’s what a coach is supposed to do?
What I’m trying to say is all the blame can’t be put on Lovie alone. JA should be held accountable for not “managing” this team the way it should have been. If Lovie is fired, JA should be right there w/ him.

Not going to happen
Whether you like it or not JA is going to be around for a little while longer. Lovie may not be so lucky though.
