He will be a Bear.

Orton shall be sacrificed for the good of mankind along with Jerry Owens.

There was an incident a few years ago. The Bulls were killing the Knicks, scrubs were playing out the clock, and the fans were screaming at them to score 100 points for free Big Macs. They took a ton of shots, Knicks took offense and they tried to fight some Bulls players.

Almost.

I didn’t realize the Sox had waived him. I just read that he’ll know today if he cleared waivers, which will then put him in Charlotte. What a waste.

I really wouldn't be surprised to see

a straight up trade with the Brownies for Brady Quinn and the #5 pick. That would give Denver Quinn, and the #5 and #12 draft picks.

yep

if they want a qb that would be the way to go.

detroit with two first round picks got my vote.

if they dig mccoy or bradford they could take detroits first next year, good bet they’ll be picking high again,

But it's the same argument people make against Stafford being picked #1

If Cutler goes to Detroit for their two 1st round picks, Detroit is essentially losing out on rebuilding their OL and defense. Or, at least getting elite prospects for those problem areas.

I'M A MAN! I'M 22!

by ChiFan13 on Apr 1, 2009 1:56 PM CDT up reply actions

well

i would imagine it would be a first the next two years, denver takign it because they’ll assume next years first is high.

so a number one this year and a top ten next year.

or this years 20 with next years first, and some player.

hard to say, really depends on what denver wants back.

i don’t think detroit gives them both 1st round picks this year.

by mike b on Apr 1, 2009 1:58 PM CDT up reply actions

Gotcha

Yeah….Detroit could do some damage in that case. If Detroit gave up one of their 1st rounders this year and then the top-10 they’ll get next year….that could work out great for both squads.

Quinn and the #5 for the #12

is the way I think the trade would go as well. It seems like it would be more of an even trade, unless of course Quinn is a bust. In that respect, Cutler could be a headcase.

by junkhorse on Apr 1, 2009 2:01 PM CDT up reply actions

Quinn?

Why not Derek Anderson instead? There’s still no indication that Brady Quinn is actually good (and I’m an ND fan).

And sign me up on the “no way we bring in Cutler” list on the account that Angelo agrees on two first rounders, ect. etc. but refuses to bump a fifth rounder up to a fourth rounder, but instead we bring in Matt Leinart as our QB of the Future who leads us to suckitude at the quarterback position for the next decade.

by Shinons on Apr 1, 2009 3:15 PM CDT up reply actions

also an ND fan

and also know that Horseballs aka DA just got handed a fat contract that Cleveland doesn’t want to go against their cap. They already missed their window in terms of unloading DA while taking just a percentage of his contract against their cap. Quinn has got an upside that DA doesn’t … which would make him more attractive to Denver.

by ifuwannacrownem on Apr 1, 2009 4:31 PM CDT up reply actions

True

I guess I was thinking of him as an under-sized NT, but he would work out great as a DE in a 3-4. But that would leave us with Adams, Dusty, and Harrison. I don’t think we can afford to lose him. And for all the guff Tommie takes for not staying healthy, hes only missed 6 regular season games in his 5 year career and is a 3 time pro-bowler and 2 time all-pro. Did he play hurt last year and therefore have a decline in stats, maybe. If he did play hurt all year, doesn’t that show how much we need him. If a 75% Tommie Harris is better than any other option we have, I’d say don’t be so quick to show him the door. I want to see him after working with Marinelli.

Just to reiterate my main point, Cutlers not worth more than Orton, a 1st, and next years 3rd.

Well

I don’t know how they are on Orton and for us to get their attention we have to give up some good players to get in the game. Especially when someone like Cleveland can give them a Quinn/Rogers/draft pick package etc..We don’t don’t have the best assets to trade.

by Hurricanes becoming Bears on Apr 1, 2009 7:21 PM CDT up reply actions

But

hes only had 2 good seasons also. I dont get how you think Cutler isnt a real QB. I mean hes put up numbers consistently. He can read a defense and he can throw the ball anywhere on the field he wants to. Now let me go out on a limb here and say hes twice as good as anyone we have had since the begining of time. The only arguments that can be had are McMahon and Luckman.

"Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it. "---George S. Halas

by Halas is God!!!!! on Apr 1, 2009 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Agreed

Rivers had two good seasons and one great one, but yes Cutler would be an instant upgrade at QB. The convo started with offering Orton, Harrison, and Vasher plus 18 and a third next year. Would I take him if the price is right, in a heartbeat. But I don’t think he’s worth 3 players and 2 picks. We would lose the depth we have (which may not be much) at DT and CB. We also lose out on picking at 18, and with the holes we still have, I say we need the pick. Knowing JA that could possibly turn into 2 or 3 picks. I guess the point is I believe the upgrade from Orton to Cutler isn’t great enough to justify sacrificing 2 other positions and 2 picks.

Detroit or Washington

Detroit has the #1, #20 and #33 picks to dangle. Trade with Detroit will enable Denver to secure the top pick in order to draft Matt Stafford and thereby begin the process of rebuidling at quarterback and semi-appeasing their super pissed off fan base.

Washington has both the draft picks and Jason Campbell to dangle. Josh Daniels is said to really like Campbell and you just know Daniel Snyder would love to make another splashy move this offseason.

The broncos kinda shot themselves in the foot with this one...

They publicly came out saying that Cutler has not returned any phone calls or text messages. This means that the Broncos will have no choice but to trade him. But I don’t see the broncos getting that much value for him. Sure there will be market for him as so many teams will want him, but teams knowing the Broncos have to trade him, will offer significantly less. I see the best the Broncos will get will be Detroit’s number 1 pick or a direct trade for Brady Quinn. According to Mortenson on ESPN, the Broncos are demanding two number 1 picks which I don’t think will happen.

No chance...

There is no chance a package like that gets Jay Cutler. Nathan Vasher has little market value given his contract, his missing so much time the last two seasons, and his being erractic at best when on the field.

I see the Broncos going any of three ways…

1. Swing a deal with Detroit and be in a position to draft Stafford or Sanchez. The Lions own the #1, #20 and #33 pick, which provides some attractive options for Denver to consider.

2. Swing a deal with Carolina for Julius Peppers and Jake Delhomme.

3. Swing a deal with a team that nets two first round picks, to include a first round pick this year that will be in the top 10 in order to have a shot a Sanchez.

The Bears are too damned conservative and apparently financially strapped to be so bold as to offer two # 1 picks, plus our pick this year sits at #18 which isn’t going to be overly attractive to Denver.

That seems like a lot

Getting rid of Orton is obvious, and Vasher is worth paying. But adding in two day 1 picks on top of that seems like a lot (keep in mind it would have to be our earlier 3rd rounder, because you can’t trade compensatory picks).

If it were just the 1st rounder, I would do it. Even if we had to up the defensive player to, say, Tillman. Now, I love Charles but it is a lot easier to find good CBs (especially good Tampa 2 CBs) than it is to find good QBs.

I’m still not sold on Cutler, but I think I would take this risk.

FWIW

I went with the Jets. It just seems too obvious. They have the worst QB situation right now, and the most invested in the rest of their team (what with last year’s spend-a-thon and everything). I don’t see how they can afford to sit back with bad QB play for the next few years. There’s just too much motivation for the Jets for them to let someone else get him.

yea..

I hope it ends up being the bears, but the Jets are more willing to make the move, and in more need for a QB.

Try again without the f-bomb. Thanks.

I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious. (Vince Lombardi)

Dude, for serious? 1986 was 23 years ago.
