ANALYSIS:This will be the last time a playoff team from the previous season gets to draft this high in the 1st round, excluding trades. The biggest change during a very quiet offseason was the loss of starting DE Igor Olshansky to Free Agency. The window of opportunity is NOW for San Diego, and they will looking to add an immediate impact player with the 16th pick. Enter DE - Tyson Jackson, a 3 year starter for LSU. At 6'4", 295lbs he has the strength, durability, and versatility to play anywhere, in any scheme, on the Defensive Line. The best fit for Jackson, however, will probably be as a DE in a 3-4 defense like the Chargers employ. He excels as a run-stopper, but is able to put pressure on opposing QBs with a strong push into the pocket, and bats down quite a few balls as well. Other needs include an upgrade at SS to help reverse the leagues 31st rated pass yardage defense. More consistent play from their talented, but very young CBs and FS will help; as well as a healthy Shawne Merriman to rush the QB. |
