WCG Mock Draft - The New York Jets Select...

ANALYSIS: With the 17th pick in the draft, the NY Jets select Josh Freeman, QB, Kansas State. SInce the retirement of Brett Favre, the quartback situation in NY is up in the air, with Clemons, Ratliff and Ainge are not quite the answer Rex Ryan and the Jets front office are really in love with. Freeman is one of the few QB's in the draft with some strong upside to him, a mediocre arm, but can get their WR's the ball down field. With Stafford gone, Freeman is the next likely pick. The Jets also are in need of a WR after losing Laverneus Coles to the Bengles, but the long term pick will be the everyday starting QB, and Freeman could compete for playing time with Clemons and Ratliff. I would not be suprised to see the Jets trade this pick up to potentially get a different player, however, if they do pick in this spot, Freeman will fit the bill. With Thomas Jones in contract disputes (again) the Jets could go with another RB, but QB is a bigger issue. Other notables would be James Laurinaitis, ILB Ohio St |

Hmmmm....
Let the Freeman arguments begin I suppose…
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious. (Vince Lombardi)
I think there is a good chance
the Jets draft him, but an even bigger chance that he’s a bust. He’s not accurate or experienced enough to succeed in the NFL.
DEJESUS!!!
bad choice
Wait…let me get this straight. First, they draft a QB who is unlikely to be much of an improvement over what they have. And on top of that, they take this guy when Sanchez is still on the board.
Whaaaa? This makes NO sense.
Well...
In other mock drafts he has gone even higher than #17, and I don’t really think the Jets want to go into the season with Clemens as their starter. I am not saying he will start right away, but they need to make a decision on who their future is going to be. He might be a bust, but there are teams that have him rated high behind Stafford and ahead of Sanchez. But to my defense, I did have Sanchez as the pick originally when I thought Freeman was already taken.
I see it wasn’t a popular pick, but I uess we wiil see now won’t we ;)
From Gang Green...
I’m personally not a huge Freeman fan, but the team was really high on him when they worked him out so I think you definitely made a logical pick. I could see the Jets taking Freeman over Sanchez, no question.

I didn't notice Sanchez
was still on the board. That definitely makes this a ridiculous pick.
DEJESUS!!!
How is this a ridiculous pick?
Why is Sanchez such a sure thing and Freeman is a ridiculous pick? Sanchez was a 1 year starter with tremendous talent around him. His own coach didn’t think he was ready to go to the pros. Is Sanchez a better QB than Leinart was coming out? Freeman’s upside is tremendous. Sure he’s a potential bust, but no more than Sanchez is.
Freeman's upside is tremendous
but he’s also a boom-or-buster. I consider him and Michael Johnson the big boom-or-bust prospects for the draft.
I don’t think Sanchez is a sure thing, but I’d feel more comfortable with Sanchez on my team than Freeman.
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
Dont they have Freeman, I mean
Ratlif and Clemens—- two projects with mediocre arms that
A. dont have targets
B. didnt they switch coaches to freakin Rex Ryan
the man was d-coordinator in Baltimore for gosh sake if there is a guy gonna draft d and alot of it its gonna b this guy, not to mention his pop is BUDDY Ryan who musta brought him up tellin him how pressure on the qb is the only way to go… =) sorry just see the jets taking d players in the first round almost every year except if a cant miss offensive skill player is around….so maybe sanchez… but i doubt it, especially in ryans first draft
freeman as an NFL QB will be comedy at it's finest

Good, looks like I was gonna miss this considering I was on vacation last week
#34: You'll be missed!
Everybody and their mom thinks the Jets are going to take this dude....
From everything that I’ve read this kid has a lot of talent. He’s got all the doofus intangibles that we all drool about. He’s 6’5-6’6, 250-260 pounds, he runs a 4.5/ 40, he’s got a lazer of an arm, deceptively nimble for a huge guy. He’s this draft’s Joe Flacco (whom I resented the Bears for not picking last year, but I’ll leave that shit alone for another day). Even the stats that he had in college are comparable to Flacco’s, he doesn’t throw a lot of Ints. One huge red flag on this guy is supposedly that he locks on a damn receiver and he’s slow in his delivery. They say that he waits a little bit too long to make the perfect pass, instead of trusting his receivers to be at the spot where the play is designed to go. With the closing speed of NFL CB’s and Safeties that’s a kiss of death. Hell if locks on a receiver as badly as they say he is, he’s not only going to be the next interception king, but if he’s waiting and waiting for the WR to make the move and be open he’ll better invest in a good mattress ‘cause his dumbass is going to be more on his back than standing up. Needless to say, if the Bears didnt’ get Cutler that was my dark horse (no pun intended).

Furthermore....
So we could leave this one alone Sanchez is not going to be there int he 17th pick, he’ll go to the Jaguars or the 49ers, I’ll bet a kosher pickle on it
