ANALYSIS: The Patriots were an interesting team last year. They were able to contend, despite the downfall of Brady. Had it not been for his injury, this team could have won yet another Superbowl. Their offense is a juggernaut, however their is one weak position on that squad: the running back. They addressed the issue by signing Fred Taylor. However given his age, he may not be an effective solution. Therefore, I think the Patriots should draft Chris "Beanie" Well from Ohio State with this pick. Taylor will be the starter this season, but ultimately Wells could take that role.I don't trust the ability of Morris and Maroney. In addition, they were injured for most of last season. Wells could be the running back they need. |

Take a look at the draft order. If you are coming up, make sure you are keeping an eye on.

I don't see this happening at all
to deep at RB already. they have to keep getting younger on defense. Cushing or Laurinaitis.

Mathews is already of the board.
But in reality, you are correct.

I see them taking Cushing in this mock
since Mathews is of the board. There linebackers suck, and are all super old except for mayo on both counts.

Yeah. Mayo was way overrated
he had alot of tackles, but that was about it. Horton should’ve won it.

doubtful
Not gonna happen. Pats just signed Fred Taylor during the offseason as a bruising back to complement Maroney, and they already have 5 RB’s on the team (all of which they like). When the Patriots draft, it’s all about value… and Wells is not high value here at #23. If somehow he were to fall to the second round? Then yeah, I could see the Pats pulling the trigger on him at #34. (Maybe.) But not at #23. They really like that RB out of Connecticut (Donald Brown), and they know they’ll be able to snag him with one of their three 2nd round picks if they decide they really wanna take a RB. And after getting burned somewhat with Maroney (who can’t seem to stay healthy & stay on the field), using a 1st round pick on a RB who has a reputation for getting hurt & not being able to stay on the field is not a direction Bill Belichick is going to want to go. He’d rather barf in his hoodie than deal with that problem again.
With the draft board #1-22 as it’s gone now, most likely picks (in order) would be Cushing, a top CB (Darius Butler or Vontae Davis; most ppl have Davis rated higher but the Pats seem to like Butler a lot), or perhaps (more of a stretch) Laurinitis. If you want to go for a surprise pick in this slot—something most people wouldn’t see coming—it would be one of the top interior linemen, someone like a Max Unger or Alex Mack, just like the Pats did when they drafted Logan Mankins in the first round a few years ago (despite the fact “everyone” had Mankins rated as only 2nd-round talent).
To be fair, most teams would probably be quite happy to pick Wells if he falls as far as #23. I just don’t see the Pats doing it.
