Pick Your Poison - Safeties
We have batted around many different scenarios with what the Bears should do with their draft now that we have Jay Cutler and don't have a first round pick. I decided to attempt to put together some sort of official WCG draft chart. I am going to use WCG's draft guru, ChiFan13's, rankings as a basis. Check out them our for a refresher. These were made prior to the Combine and workouts, so I have added any person who may have since risen to a 2nd round consideration.
Safeties is an interesting position. There are many different views on who will be where and who is worth a pick at this spot.
We will do a similar process for OL, S/CB and DT. Then I'll pull the winners and we'll have a Best of Show vote to determine who our choice for the Bears 2nd Round pick is.

Personally...
I would take any of those guys (at their appropriate draft value level, as long as we don’t reach).

Is Sean Smith not an option because he is slated to get picked ahead of us?

he was the hardest to guess at
I’ve seen him all over, but based on latest mocks and some rumors of teams interested it sounds like he’ll go late 1st.

I'd even guess mid-1st.

Big reach in the 1st
I understand he’s a great physical talent, but wasn’t his production pretty mediocre?

Yes...
Plus if I’m remembering correctly, isn’t he a converted WR, that played CB the last two years, and is now expected to switch to free safety?
If I’m correct about that, then it doesn’t seem like a good fit for the Bears. We need a safety who can contribute soon. Not just somebody with the athletic ability. We already have Daniel Manning, who is super athletic, and doesn’t really know how to play safety.
Lord... please let the Bears pick a good WR at #49....

Well, in that case.
Rashad, if Smith isn’t there, followed by Delmas.

no, the opposite
Gradings for Sean Smith are all over the map. I’ve seen him graded as high as early 1st and as low as mid-to-low 3rd. Part of it might be whether you are grading him as a CB or a safety. One analysis I read said he was basically a “tweener”… not quite good enough in coverage to be a true NFL CB, and not quite physical enough as a tackler to be a true NFL safety. (That’s obviously one opinion so take it as nothing more than that.) Pro Football Weekly (PFW), which tends to have very good analysis (IMO), rates him as a 3rd rounder. Sounds to me like he might be one of those high risk picks where you could strike gold, or you could be left with a big bust.

Rashad, because the kid is a freaking ballhawk.

Solid Production
Smith’s production was very solid throughout the past two years. He consistently drew the match-up of the opposing teams best receiver and was able to frustrate many of them due to his combination of size and speed. Like another great Mountain West pick-up (Urlacher), Smith and Kruger from Utah were the core pieces that made all of the other defensive players on that team better. I really hope he drops into the Bears range. In today’s offense friendly officiated league, having the length to deflect balls in coverage without having to be draped over the receiver would be a huge plus.

Gotta go with Johnson
I think he could contribute immediately and would be more valuable than say Massaquoi or Iglesias. He reminds me alot of Mike Brown, not as big a run stopper but definitely smart and a ball-hawk. Get him. If we opt for a WR here, I really like Clemons from Clemson or Mitchell from Ohio in the later rounds.

no safety
i would go with an offensive lineman if available first, loadholt-beatty or go with one of the handful of good guard/centers- if not available then go saftey (delmas-johnson-moore.. in order no chung), and if not there then i guess maybe a wr
